PLEASE remind me never to step away from this thread over a weekend. 7 pages?!?!?! And heavy stuff too...coils and extraction methods. Holy crap.

I was hot and heavy with NETCOM this weekend. Big Spirit is in my everyday rotation and I don't see that changing. Had a weekend romance with the Mango Vanilla, which is good stuff, though I am awaiting some extra extract as the flavor was a bit muted for me. However, much as we enjoy A+ flavored burleys for the burley being front and center, the balance in the NETCOM MV is really nice with the tobacco being the star. I also ran through more than I will admit of their Black Cavendish. That stuff is wicked good. It is to my evenings what Louisville is to my workdays, and that is high praise indeed. The weekend was solidly backed up by quite a bit of A+ BGB. I am out of Maple Burley (!!!) so giving the original article an extended run and it is damn fine stuff...damn fine.

Back at work on a Monday, it is Coventry (damnit I love this stuff SO much), Louisville (still my #1 favorite unflavored NET), and A+ Sassy...today with a little Backwood Bluebacco mixed in just for some variety.

Another week has passed and the Uncle BJ's holy trinity has not changed...A+ Maple Burley, W2V Louisville, NETCOM Black Cavendish. Meanwhile, I am burning more Coventry than any of the three.

I really like the idea of your cold maceration. That is more in keeping with the kind of limited time I have right now. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks for the advice and link, Boomer.

I'm at 12 mg. right now so I figure 2mg. from the extract and I add my base with 10 mg. to get 12 mg.

It's not complicated. I use plastic Jello cups. Put in the tobacco so it's to the top without pressing down. Add PG so the TB is covered. Wait for the PG to be absorbed and top up the container. I use Parafilm to cover the container but saran wrap is okay also. Fifteen seconds on high to nuke it then press and stir. Let it sit for a day and repeat. Then I let it sit, covered for three days. I use the syringe filter method described in the link above. I get about 120 mls. of concentrate from 1/2 ounce of tobacco or half a Toro cigar. I use the extract at 25% in recipes. Hope this helps.

Thanks sir! For the NET RY4s I've tried, I would put W2V RY4 ahead of MoV Full Virginia Flake and behind GeJ GJ4.

I have not tried CI Cigar yet, but perhaps down the road. I wanted to try W2V's Campfire Coffee (also NET) first.

Campfire Coffee is BRILLIANT, one of my favorite coffee juices ever. I didn't know it was NET (NEC?) but it doesn't surprise me because that juice is to coils like Julius Caesar was to Gaul....bad bad news.

Yes indeed, I extracted a Ramon Allones Celestial cigar. Cost me about $25 at an excellent online cigar shop (cigars.net.au) Real Cuban, of course. That was my second try at a cigar... the first was a Montecristo Maduro which is still spoken of in loving terms by those who received it.

Hi all,

I've been flat out with work and study and the occasional night out when there has been a chance to keep sane and break up all the lonely hours on my derriere studying. As a diversion to take study breaks I have been educating myself on cigars and not just any cigars but fine cigars. I have subscribed to a Youtube group called cigarobsessions where many cigars are reviewed. Bryan Glynn in the videos is a great reviewer and a lover of cigars. He really knows his stuff and has a developed sense of taste as can be seen in his descriptions of the flavours he experiences while smoking the cigar. He uses very similar terminology and vernacular we use in our e-liquid reviews. He will take a cigar from the point of lighting it up and then have time segments in the duration of smoking the cigar (some cigars last for over 2 hours!). In those segments he will comment on how flavours have transitioned at various stages of the cigar.

I really like his reviews and it's giving me some inspiration to consider trying the art of extraction. This is only bolstered further by the fact that I found a rare good cigar shop in Sydney that stocks all the good cohiba's including the award winning Cohiba Behike 52 and the Padron Family Reserve No.45. There is even a box set of Drew Estate cigars which includes a Kuba Kuba, Acid Blondie, Cold Infusion and Acid Atom Maduro!

I would really find it satisfying and personally rewarding to be able to extract a good cigar like this and I don't know why more vendor's don't do it considering the costing structure of extractions. For example - one cigar makes for about half a litre (500mls) of liquid so the incremental cost of a cigar is spread over 500 mls of liquid making it economically feasible to extract an expensive cigar.

It is ironic that when I was a smoker I never cared for cigars and it is experiencing the aroma, nuances and complex flavours in naturally extracted tobaccos that has given me an appreciation for the complex flavour profiles in cigars.

For anyone who may be interested to see the kinds of reviews Bryan does on a cigar I recommend the following. I find it fascinating to see reviews on the very 'sticks' that form the basis of all our naturally extracted liquids.

i don't know how it would effect extraction process, but those Drew estate cigars you mentioned are infused with flavors. The tobaccos are very light to begin with. If you want to extract just pure tobacco from a drew estate product you should look into the liga privada line, or the undercrown line.

again, knowing nothing about how this will effect extraction, i can tell you the behike line from cohiba need a good amount rest before they become what they truly should be. the 52 starts to smoke beautifully at 3 years of rest, and we're only beginning to find out how they good they will become with long term rest. Consider that most habanos (excluding edicion limitadas) are rolled fairly fresh, which means as the tobacco ferments in its rolled state, it will be releasing ammonia...just saying.

the padron family reserve line is rolled with all aged tobacco so that might be a great place to start with extraction (an expensive place to start though). It's a super heavy, rich, nicaraguan tobacco...I've never met anyone in any cigar community that doesn't think its a fantastic smoke...i'd be willing to bet the extraction will come out fairly sweet.

and btw, since it seems you have gotten the hang of extracting cigars, i'd be more than happy to mail you a few different ones to try your process on. Some cubans, some non, just to mess around and spread it around community a bit. It's something we in the cigar community do quite a bit actually. we call it cigar bombing, but then again its usually a surprise lol

OMG that is crazy generous of you! I would 1000% take you up on it but I can't be sure that crappy Australian customs wouldn't seize it. They're pretty bad about tobacco and I don't want to get a duty bill (it has happened). But I will take your advice about the Padron aged cigars and pick one up.

Basically my juice distribution program is as follows: when I feel like it, I make it, and when I'm flush, I send it out to some of the thread folks, and if they feel like chipping in a few $ to help with postage, they are welcome to but not required to.
