That's what I'm trying to figure out. If there is trace amount, relatively significant amount, or none. The repercussions of using said ingredient are devastating, even when put into a smaller perspective (trace within a trace).

I wouldn't just write it off though. Inhaling diacetyl can cause serious damage to the lungs, as I'm sure you're aware. Not to pave the path of alarm or anything. We knew that cigarettes will inevitably cause cancer, but still, we smoked. But here we all are, vaping to reduce the harm of using nicotine.

Personally, I didn't quit smoking to avoid cancer only to gain bronchiolitis obliterans from inhaling butter :)

Anything new on your request to NF for a list of diacetyl containing flavors? As much as I love the flavor, I've discontinued any of my kona cream mixes until we know for sure.

The first day I contacted them via telephone, the woman had told me that she was not able to give me such information, and asked that I either leave my name and number (which I did), or email their customer service (again, I did). She had also made mention that her CEO was the only one who had the information :glare: and he was in a meeting, but she promised to have him call me back after wards.

Well, I never got the call. The next day, I call them and ask the same woman if they're dodging my question? She said no, explained that it was the CEO that had sole access to the ingredients in flavorings :glare: and that he was very busy, but she ensured me that he would indeed call me this day. I called again that afternoon with little success.

At this point, the following day comes without any word, and I'm fed up with it. I made my email very simple to reply to, and give a list of flavorings in which all they had to do was copy the list, and merely reply 'yes' or 'no' to each one.

I told them I didn't wish for any information aside of diacetyl content, again, in the form of yes or no. I sent a final email informing of my disappointment, and that I do not think I could provide further business to a company that didn't care enough to reply to a simple inquiry.

That seemed to wake them up. They finally responded, but not the CEO, and I still didn't get my answer, at least not completely.

Hi Adam,

Your original email was forwarded to our CEO for review, I am sorry customer service didn't reply letting you know that. Because of the nature of our business he is the only one who has access to the trade secret formulations here.

Right now it is taking him a couple of weeks to reply to emails, he is an extremely busy man. Even though I don't have access to the formulas, I am in the applications lab and can tell you that if you are looking at products that have a butter or cream note they most likely do contain diacetyl. The CEO is working on a completely diacetyl-free line but, I don't have a target date as of yet.

I don't know what your intended application is but, if it is for vaping, you are right, you wouldn't want to vape diacetyl and our flavors have been designed for food applications, not e-cigarettes. If you are vaping, you should take care not to vape Propylene Glycol, the news hasn't started warning people of its dangers but, my understanding is that it is even more detrimental to your health...

I understand your frustration with the customer service you received, for that, all I can do is apologize. I wish you the best of luck with your application.

Respectfully,

Tracey Downey
Applications Scientist

Since then, I haven't been using the flavorings... not even my beloved malt.

Interesting he seems to be saying pg itself is more harmful that diacytal but till there seems to be to many ideas out about the use of diacytal. If I have a flavor that uses it I won't throw it away but I'd rather not have flavors that use it in my supplies if it can be avoided. I guess that might be called middle road and also why the flavor companies ae responding with more diacytal free. Like Flavors West. Which has arrived! But I can't taste smell again and being lazy. When I get around to playing I'll probably leave a post

Hopefully that "Applications Scientist" is full of ish! If I read that correctly, he/she is saying PG is way worse for us to inhale than diacetyl, like it was a known industry fact or something but we just hadn't been informed yet!?

Is this maybe just another person who thinks there's antifreeze in our juice? :D

On another thread someone talked to the owner and their on site chemist or flavor guy I believe a few months back. This sounds like the run around.

Yes that was me .. he called me when I wrote to NF concerned about white sediment .. he told me not to worry about it ;-) He also said no one that works at NF is a smoker, an ex-smoker or an ecig user. He told me most of the suppliers who make eliquid buy their flavorings from NF. He did bring up PG and VG, but all he said was to be careful using them because no one knows the affect they have on our lungs .. but he did not tell me NOT to use them.

PG is detrimental? Has anyone informed the medical field of this new finding? So they are saying that their flavors are safer than PG? Help...I'm lost in their response to you. Sounds like they don't know what they are selling IMO.

Yes I agree. Also sounds like a person giving you answers with out the facts as well. If this is how they treat their customer base Im done and will not purchase from them again. Im not impressed by their stuff anyways other than the malt. I will just use what I have and what ever I don't vape will be used for coffee. Wow what a way to lose business on their part.
