MiamiMom63,
I just looked at HDV and all their NF flavors are listed as Extracts. Interesting how you could have gotten something toally different from NF. Is it possible you got another form of the flavor from NF, like a concentrate instead of an extract?
A problem I had when I started looking at NF's web site is that any given flavor can come in many different forms. A search for "Caramel Cream" yielded 14 separate products to choose from, and nowhere do they say which of the 14 are best suited for flavoring eliquids. Some of the forms are concentrates, extracts, oils, emulsions, organic or non-organic, with or without diacetyl -- it can be quite confusing. The only hint I've seen on their site that any of their products are suitable for eliquids are the listings for diacetyl-free products. I believe the harm from diacetyl comes when its inhaled (popcorn lung disease), not eaten, so I can't think of any other reason for NF to have such a listing even though I haven't seen anything official on their site stating to use these products for eliquids. After all, they are essentially a FOOD flavoring business, though I suspect they're attracted to eliquids for the potential it holds as a new market.
Given that all of their diacetyl-free products are in their Coffee & Tea line of products, it seems to me the Coffee & Tea product line is better suited than the others for flavoring eliquid. In fact, at the beginning of this thread I think the Coffee & Tea products are what folks were focusing on. For me, that was good to know as I was going in circles trying to decide which form of flavor product to get. I would never have dreamed to look under Coffee & Tea flavoring for eliquid flavors had I not read about it in this thread or seen them on the diacetyl-free lists.
Here's some of the info I was gathering when I started looking into getting some Organic Caramel Cream, which is sold in all 3 forms. To my thinking, the info points to Coffee & Tea as having the qualities best suited for eliquids.
NF Extract
-------------------
Base: Ethyl Alcohol
Solubility: water
Diacetyl-free: ?
Ingredients: Water, Organic Ethyl Alcohol, Natural and Organic Plant and Vegetable Extracts
NF Concentrate
----------------------------
Base: Gum Acacia
Solubility: water
Diacetyl-free: ?
Ingredients: Water, Organic Gum Acacia, Organic Flavors
NF Coffee & Tea
---------------------------
Base: Ethyl Alcohol and Vegetable Glycerin
Solubility: Natures Flavours Organic Coffee and Tea Flavoring Systems are water soluble, in addition they will mix into Glycerin, and Propylene Glycol solutions even better than our Organic Flavor Extracts.
Diacetyl-free: Yes
Ingredients: Organic Flavors, Vegetable Glycerin, and Organic Ethyl Alcohol
So why would one ecig vendor (eg: HDV) be selling NF flavor extracts and another (ecigexpress) be selling the Coffee & Tea flavors?
Even though ecigexpress makes no mention of Coffee & Tea in their text, they do show ingredients for the Coffee & Tea products. And HDV does show the ingredients for extracts. I believe Coffee & Tea is the only NF product line to contain vegetable glycerin in its base.
Any idea why a vendor would choose extracts over the Coffee & Tea products?
