Sources say that NYS will rush the ban ecig through the senate by the end of the week. CONTACT UR REP!!!

Earlier in the thread yvilla stated that the bill is not being called for discussion tomrrow:

We have received written assurances from Senator Duane's office that the bill will not be called for discussion/action at the tomorrow's Senate Health Committee meeting.

That means we have more time for people to continue with phone calls, letters, faxes, and emails. The more we inundate them with opposition messages the better.

Also, anyone who can plan to go to Albany for the date they DO schedule the bill at a Health Committee meeting (most likely a Tuesday), please stay tuned! You can also PM me, to be put on a list of people I will email/PM directly when we learn the bill is scheduled, to discuss coordination of transportation and/or car pooling from various areas of the state to Albany.

So how could they push it through by the end of the week?

I totally agree. All she's doing is regurgitated the same BS that the FDA initially used as their argument for seizing shipments.

Toxic chemicals, carcinogens, anti freeze... blah blah blah.... oh won't someone PLEASE save the children!!?!?!??! Oh, and the adults too....

Meanwhile, everyone in the assembly is completely clueless and believes every word of it.

Whatever happened to democracy?? Why can't we the people vote on these issues directly? Why is it up to ignorant and corrupt political officials to make these decisions for us?

Ok, So here is the update...

I got a call from governor paterson office, about setting up a meeting with New York State Department of Health, Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Adult Health
Tobacco Control Program. The meeting will be in albany. I will be telling them about the Electronic Cigarette and why NYS should not ban them ect... That meeting will be happening on May 5th 2010.

Also I am waiting for a call back from my local senator to set up a meeting this week with him to go over the same material.

:)

YES, Finally all the letters and calls I have been making are paying off!!!

Are there any vetted studies out there on the ecig that I can use as reference? Any new info / facts will help big time.

Way to go Jay!!!! If I had the money I'd fly over and help... :( Sent an email because I figure they won't be as likely to realize that I live in Nevada.

Fight guys! We're not beaten yet, and our NY brethren are counting on us!

Here's a link to the EFC discussion about a newly published peer-reviewed study- there's a link to the study itself in that thread.

Here's the discussion and link to a really nice write up by Kristin addressing the misconceptions that the bans are based on.

Good luck in your meetings!

The chart comparing TSNA levels of various types of cigarettes and nicotine products was used very effectively in the Illinois hearing. I took the chart created by Treece and added a title, footnotes, and link to the source - Michael Siegel's blog. It can be downloaded from the CASAA Documents page. This is a direct link. It will download when you click it.

Emails will waste bandwidth.
Faxes will waste paper.
Driving to Albany will waste gas.

This was a unanimous vote by a bunch of ...... who are completely uneducated in the subject matter.

Why do you think NY is in such a mess to begin with? It's our buddies in Albany.

Buy some KY and bend over.

Signed a frustrated NYS resident.

We cannot afford such a defeatist attitude. And how can they be "educated" if we allow the propagandists from the ALA and other antis to be the only ones talking to them?

I am fighting this, with all I have! I'm still writing letters and sending emails and faxes, making phone calls, and plan to spend a couple of days in Albany next week meeting with people. I also plan to harrangue my local Senator, Alesi.

What are YOU going to do, fellow Rochestarian?

It has just come to our attention that the New York State Assembly voted unanimously to outlaw the sale of electronic cigarettes last week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc2iMn7EZ5Q
i sent an email to the chairman, but i am not from new york.

it really bothers me that this passed with no opposition. I think it is great that we know about it now, but couldn't we have nipped it in the bud before it even starts? and who is that uninformed woman that was presenting the bill?

i am going to send the information to my representatives now here in Texas . not that i don't want to go to Austin eventually to defend our rights. but if the representatives learn about this now, we may not have to. i don't think it would be a bad idea for everybody to inform their own representatives. to keep this from happening in the first place.

I wrote my letters. I sent my emails. I made my calls (which by the way, everyone was too busy to talk to me, imagine that). In the past, I've worked with the ECA and some of my letters and responses were used as testimony in support of the Smoking Everywhere suit. So please, no lectures about what I'm going to do.

What did all that get me? A UNANIMOUS VOTE against E-Cigs. No debate, no show of support, no testing, no facts, no NOTHING. Not a SINGLE vote against the bill.

They are waiting for FDA approval? How long is that going to take? Where are they with their testing? I bet if big pharma had something they wanted pushed through it wouldn't take so long (even though the side effects are something like paralysis, birth defects, blindness, hearing loss, and death).

Why not hurry the testing along, approve the devices and liquids and tax them if they must. Maybe even put some Americans to work manufacturing these products.

But no! So now, I will sit back and watch NYS make another dumb decision based on... NOTHING and I will give more of my money and support to China. Just placed another healthy order today as a matter of fact.

We are our own worst enemy.

But best of luck to you. I hope the work you're doing will have an effect, but obviously, I have my doubts. If it does, please feel free to tell me, "I told you so". I will be glad to hear it.

Oh, and do me ONE favor. If you DO go to Albany and you do have meetings with anyone who actually matters, I would like you to bring something with you. If the absolutely ridiculous argument comes up that e-cigs are marketed toward children because of the flavors. Reach into a bag and pull out of bottle of BUBBLEGUM VODKA and slam it on the table. That should put that argument to rest.

Thanks.

This is NY, the most corrupt state of them all. And at 10 dollars a pack of cigarettes here, PM and RJR definately have there hands in it. They will allow the sale of cigarettes even with all the medical knowledge and facts surrounding they kill people but wont put a ban on them, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. IT IS CALLED MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is absolutely AMAZING that they passed that bill with almost NO information and it passed 125 - 0 ?? WTH is wrong with these people ?

Sheep following sheep , no sense at all , with that type of legislature anything can pass !

I guess they will have to sell Personal Vaporizers instead !

Now here's the thing... I live in NY. And on every streetcorner, in EVERY store on St Marks place, and many other places, in EVERY tobacco shop in the city... They sell...

BONGS!!! PIPES!!! OTHER ......... delivery items.

COMPLETELY LEGALLY!!!

Frankly I don't give a crap if they wanna ban the sale of CARTRIDGES which contain whatever it is to give the ecig it's bite, or ban the nicotine liquid... Whatever. I don't USE THOSE, because I don't KNOW what is IN THEM. I make my own eliquid, with VG and Flavoring, and WATER. It tastes like Dentine gum and works FINE.

This could actually work if you do it based on the paraphanailia legalites.
BAN the stuff that goes in them, sure. But how can you BAN the ATOMIZER and BATTERY? Isnt that the same as selling BONGS that can not be banned or illegal unless they CONTAIN an illegal substance?

Yes, I believe this is an answer that will not be able to be disputed if legislated well. Anyone up for trying it with me? I'll go to albany and even DEMONSTRATE my absolutely FDA approveable liquid. We'll get that snotty ..... and her team of malcontents.

It's not a "....," it's a "water pipe," and it's not a "crack pipe," it's a designer tobacco pipe. See how that works? It's a matter of wording that makes it legal. Next time you go into a tobacco shop, ask to see their "bongs" or their "crack pipes," but get ready to run.... :D

They can criminalize the "paraphernalia," but there's always a way around it if the store owners are driven enough to continue stocking, and the customers continue to provide revenue.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions on this forum.

They are not legal, and everyone knows what is going on, it's just that nobody cares enough.

But where I live here in Vista, some bunch of people, some group, some who knows what decided that they cared enough and wanted them gone. And you know what, the police swept the city and confiscated ALL bongs and pipes and whatever else they considered illegal paraphernalia.

All it took is for someone to care.

Yeah, nobody cares about that stuff in general, because it doesn't take money out of anyone's pockets. But if you think that is the same thing that will happen with electronic cigarette paraphernalia if it becomes a drug delivery device, think again.

People with lots of money will not want you to have them.
End of story.

Those who compare electronic cigarettes to bongs are fooling themselves.
