After a lot of frustration, I am finally starting to build coils that glow nice and evenly as well as holding their resistance and last more than a few hours.

I am very middle of the road as far as voltage/wattage is concerned since I do not like a hot vape and stay with my own DIY juices at ~70/30.

Once you wrap a evenly spaced coil, the key is patience!

I have tried oxidizing every which way and still ended up with hot legs, so I bit the bullet and started pulsing and "brushing" and pulsing and brushing. It has finally worked!!

I just do not want to do with with my VV/VW devices since the resistance and battery drain are all over the place for the first few pulses and I just don't think that all that pulsing is good for the electronics. Once I set up a coil and check for any intrinsic shorts, it's just a lot of pulsing.

I would like to find a moderately priced 18650 mechanical mod with a side switch (maybe replaceable/cleanable). I need to place another order with fasttech soon. Tell you what, I like the genesis style, but these kayfun/Russian/Taifun clones have a lot going for them as well.

Any recommendations?

The EA clone by Ehpro comes to mind. Just don't do what I did and get a KTS for your first mech.
Explain?

And what's wrong with the Bolt?

I have a FT Bolt + kick, using 18500 Efest run my AGA-T2 genesis at 8 watts all day long (ok about 8 hours because the daggum 1100mAh 18500 battery just can't hang as well as the 2000mAh 18650)

They also have a "The Natural" telescoping at FT now, I have a KTS+ inbound, and am blasting away on a Caravela with a Caravela genesis w/ kick 8 watts (I did have issues with it but fixed it)

OP what method are you trying to build your tank at?
Have you tried these yet?

The EA clone is revered as having a low voltage drop for a mech. Its not the cheapest but it's not pricey either IMO(around 50). It's a side button and if in the future you decide you like mechs you will have a nice one to use that you can rely on.

I personally have a magneto V2 and love it. I wasn't sure about the bottom button thing but it's actually better for gennies. It's awkward when you have to tilt the genny one way and the button isn't 180 degrees from the side youre tilting. With the bottom button it doesn't matter where you need to tilt it's always comfortable.

The KTS gets the hot button and if your resistance is low enough it will melt the solder on the spring, 30A battery or not. I've got a short from a janky center pin on the hercules with my magneto and 30A and the button got hot for a minute, but there was no collapsed spring and broken mod. Its still trucking on with that smooth magnetic switch.

If you don't want to wait an entire month and some change, order stateside. Madvapes has a few EHpro mechanicals at better prices than most of the vendors on the 1st page of google when searching ehpro clones. I just ordered one myself. They have the EHpro EA mod, which would probably be an awesome 1st mech mod. I always wanted one. They have the Magneto in SS or Brass. They have the EHpro Nzonic (you can use the kick with an 18650 in it) the Natty with a magnetic switch, the Natty telescopic, they have the EHpro GGTS clone, (which is probably of superb quality) They have the EHpro Caravela with brass accents for $60, or if you wanna go cheap they have the EHpro Sentinel for 20 bucks, but its got a brass 510 connection. Good for a year before the threads wear out.

I own a bolt and i resent that statement as well. I love my bolt. Its my favorite mod to use with my kick.

Thanks for all you inputs. I thought the choice on VV/VW mods was huge! The mechanicals are out there with a vengeance.

Some of your responses have got me thinking. While the top mounted side firing switch would be a convenience, I am wondering how the switch would hold up with some of the potential arcing when pulsing coils and how easy it would be to dismantle the mod and clean it up. The top side switches don't appear to be a picnic to take apart.

I have an old Mini Rough stack that I use for pulsing coils, but I don't have any high drain 18350 batteries for it. I used it way back when I was still using cartomizers. I get it to work, but the top switch is really inconvenient for any RBA since I have to use an extender which makes it an ungodly kludge, and the thing is constantly tipping over and even stripped the threads on my extender when doing my Aga the other day. Fortunately, I had a replacement

I only plan on using this for pulsing my genesis coils.

Going to have to do some homework! Thanks again.

For pulsing the everlivingcrap out of a hotspot hotleg plagued genesis coil the Natural would be my side-buttoned mech of choice. I was certain that its button would wear out before I got my first dual coil set up properly. My hand cramped up long before that button was even broken-in.

Of course, I soon after decided that because all side-mounted button mechanicals require an excess of vertical space within the mod (to accommodate their button mechanism stuff) I should as such forsake them all and move happily into the realm of bottom-plunger-button-type deals and their commensurate knack for maximal stealthy shortness.

That's the same reason I switched to a bottom button mod.

I got a FT Bolt(the silver one) and it gave me nothing but problems. The center pin in the connector was so recessed that I couldn't drop the center pins on my atties low enough to contact aside from my Smok Mini RDA. Voltage drop was horrible, I used a battery sitting at 4.19V when I tested at the connector it dropped to 3.8x. The 18650 extender that it comes with got stuck and my needle nose ended up making tool marks when trying to loosen but it still wouldn't come off. The threads are not machined well at all... Overall it was crap. Gave it to a friend and his experience wasn't much better, he had to make an extender for the center pin and has had direct short problems at the base of the atty because of it... Not worth the $13...
