Hi folks, I need a little advise from those with experience before
spending more money.

Here is what I'm thinking of doing; I already have a Joye 510 and a Green Smoke e-cigs.
I am hot on this Protege unit (the whole kit w/ 510 adapter) since it seems so well made and has tons of good reviews.
In your view, is it worth it?
I mean, what will it do for me that the 510 and GS does not do?
Does it have more power (they say 3.7V), does the charge last longer, charges faster? More smoke?
I know I would have the satisfaction of owning a better made unit, and
it does not leak juice.

Can you guys give me your thoughts? Thanks :)

Hiya i asked a question about mods recently 3.7 versus 5+ mods and in it theres alot about the protege which i just bought...its yet to arrive but if you pm me i will let you know about it asap when i get to use it

I think the main thing with the protege is that it is like a fresh battery every time...the ordinary batteries are supposedly 3.7 but go downhill rapidly and die eventually but the protege will keep that just charged effectiveness all the time...

The battery will last alot longer...about a day depending on how heavily u use it on one battery...also u can just charge 2 and bring one with u in case...no more fussing with chargers/batteries while out and about.

I think thejuice leaking thing is a seperate issue so im not gonna comment on that and will leave it for someone who has one already to discuss

I bought mine on monday because i want something to get me past all the problems i have with my 510 and 901...i want to stop having to carry chargers and batteries and pouches of stuff and just have one battery.I also will now just have to buy attys and carts/juice which is a great plus for me...i can try any adaptor i want to try cartomisers and 801/901/510 whenever i want...just to note if u do get a protege they are known to have switch issues on some but i think new ones only have the better switches on them...

Like juss-cass said, the protege will feel like you're vaping a FRESHLY charged 510 (everytime). If you're a very heavy vaporer, the battery will last you half a day. A moderate vaporer will be able to last an entire day on one battery. If you're happy with the throat kick you get from the 510, then the protege will be a great choice. If you want more of a kick, you will want to look into a larger HV mod like the Prodigy V2 (which runs at 5v).

Thanks for your feedback, I may take you up on the pm when you get your unit.
I agree with you. I would like to just take one bat and a few pre-loaded carts to work with me instead all a whole bag of stuff!!
It sounds like what you are saying is the charge stays constant and regulated instead of getting weaker with use!?

That alone would make this unit worth the money to me :w00t:

I am soooooo sick of charging several bats every single day.
I would not mind charging only one bat per day, as long as it doesnt take to long to charge.
My Green Smoke bats do not last very long, about 2 analog cig's worth!!

I was laying in bed watching TV and went through 2 GS bats in only a few hours, and they were fully charged!!

Is the Prodigy V2 that big one that uses 2 CR123 bats?
I am tempted to get that one because it's 5V, but I am affraid of
burning my juice, and the fact that it is so large.

Are you vaping with a Prod V2?

If I get that one, what else do I need to buy keeping in mind what I already have?

i understand your annoyance...think we are in the same boat...i have 2 ds cases(nintendo) and a box of bits and bobs i carry everywhere along with 3 chargers(car/usb/wall) and im sick of them....ive already siphened(???) my liquids into lil bottles so thats sorted but i need something to last me the day without worrying about all that stuff....i have a 2 yr olds clothes/foo to sort out at 7am...my vaping stuff always comes last and i forget stuff....

plus like you said bout batteries dying i love that first puff and get a bit annoyed after awhile and end up with one battery in the wall and using one and interchanging before they die to get the same vapor so protege will hopefully solve this....i will indeed pm you when i get it(mid next week id say) but im sure theres LOTS more out there who have one who will be glad to help...if u see any comment on them im sure they wouldnt mind a pm(may be flattered bout u showing an interest in their mod!)about it

as regards charging i dont know how long it takes but i think u can charge two at once so that helps...and im pretty sure u could leave them in overnight to no harm???(i dont do it but others do)

ps. your GS batteries dont sound too great...how r ur 510 ones?keep us posted on if u get one....and look in the classifieds/swaps too...i know theres one up today with all the adaptors and stuff so they are out there and it might not have to cost you as much as you think...

I have a different unit that uses a 14500 batt. At a full charge, they can be up to 4.2v, so a fresh charged one hits really nice. And not being tied to an expensive, short lived, proprietary battery is a nice thing. It's liberating to walk out of the house with it, a spare atty and a small bottle of juice, instead a pack of back up parts and have to fiddle fart around with it every 1/2 hour.

The "big one" is the Prodigy V1 ... which is what I use now (while waiting on my V2 to arrive) ... I've had this bad boy since May of last year .. still working like a champ .. zero issues ..... the Prodigy V2 is the NEW one .. that is in the process of shipping as we speak .... both of which run at 5v .... go to the PS site (link is at top of page) to get an idea of what's what ......... ;)

I have used the Prodigy V1, Protege and have 2 of the Prodigy V2s on order. I am a heavy chain vaper, I used to get about 50 minutes out of my regular 510 batteries. I can get about 9 hours out of a single Protege battery, that was a big plus for me. In my opinion it hits harder and more consistent than a standard 510 battery. All I can say about going to 5V is, it's hard going back to 3.7V. Hope this helps.

Yeah the GS bats are lame. I can charge 3 510 bats waiting to charge only 1 GS bat
When I get home from work, I just dont have that much time to play with batteries, clean atty's and re-load carts! LOL!! all this work and time spent is driving me nuts 8-o
Thank you for mentioning the classified ads, I never think of stuff like that :p

no problem...i got my protege from there...shudda got one with all the adaptors tho as they are sold out on the official site so i gotta try buy em from the classifieds...may end up paying more than i shud....ahhh well we learn....the advice if u do buy from the classifieds is not to put down on paypal "gift" as you have no comeback if theres a problem...put down that ur paying for "goods"...just a tip

hope you get what u want...its so hard to pick there are loads out there...

did anyone mention that most of the bigger mods can be made to hold one or two batteries for varying voltages?you might consider this too instead of buying a protege and having to get a bigger mod later...

the pros are you got a more versatile mod that can do both
but the con is still size!they are bigger than the protege....(but some cost the same price (eg. xhaler,chuck)...if ur not set on the protege others to look at are gg slim(cloud9vaping.co.uk but there is a us supplier too), lil chuck - thagbuilt.com just to throw a spanner in the works...oh i forgot the indulgence by eastmall.net(china) but the indlgence is bigger than the other 2 but you can get an add on sleeve to make it take 6volts

Yes it does thanks, every ones comments help :D
I think when I get home from work, I will check out those video demo's.

So what cart are you guys using with the Prod V1/V2?

If I got a Prod V2, would I be able to simply screw in my 510 atty and cart and be a happy vaper?

801 is the penstyle. I use 510, have tried 801 and 901 but 510 is my favorite at 3.7, 5 and 6v. I too, don't use carts. I direct drip my 510 all day. Drop in 3 drops hit it until the flavor drops off, repeat.

Yeah that sounds good to me.
You just dump the juice right into the atty!! I like that :p
I see they dont even sell carts on their website.

I like to get hits with lots of vapor because I am used to full flavor Marlboro reds.
This sounds like what I should have ordered in the beginning!!

Only thing, it's so big and strange looking, I would be affraid of using it in public!!
Do you get funny looks from folks when you use yours, or do you avoid the public thing all together?

The Protege is actually a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures. I don't think it's really any more noticeable than a regular 510. My Prodigy does get some looks in public, but if you look like a normal person, People don't seem to pay much attention. If you look like a crack head, people will probably assume you're smoking crack and act like they're not paying any attention to you. I used to smoke 2 packs of Marlboro Reds a day. If you are looking for that kind of hit, you may want to consider the Prodigy. My V1 got me off the smokes and it satisfies that actual feeling of something going deep into your lungs that you get from the marlboros. If that's what you are looking for, skip the Protege and go for the Prodigy. I have not had any problems in public, but I try to be discreet.

edit: Yes, straight in the atty. Some people say to aim for the little bridge, but I say as long as you get it in the hole, you're good to go.

When and if you decide to go the drip method just try to make sure you dont flood your atomizer. Filling the adapter up with liquid constantly and not cleaning it out causes pooooor performance.

I've bought a couple of PVs off the forums (calssifieds) and the main reason the users were not happy with the performance was the adapters were full of liquid so they were shorting out and not vaping.
It is an electrical connection. And not one single machine out there will perform well under these conditions.
