First off this help is not for me . I dont cough at all from vaping and i take deep inhales .

Problem is with my mom . To start off let me explain her problem .

She has almost none of the 5 humanly senses lol. taste, touch, smell, sight, hearing .One thing i know that helps vaping is smell and taste and i think her issues with that is being on analogs . Not the main issue though . She smokes 1.5-2 PAD and has COPD . Iv have been trying to get her to vape instead for a while now but she takes one or two pulls then stops for a day or two .repeats a pull or two and stops for a few days .I did find some flavors she could taste but taste doesnt help the prblem. The problem is she takes one small pull and coughs her brains out .By small pull i mean barely inhaling at all and almost no vapor . I can see why she doesnt want to keep trying it but i told her if she keeps to it the coughing should get less and less . I have been vaping 18mg high vg/pg ratio so thats what iv been giving her .I told her to try not inhaling and just let the vapor out her nose but she said she cant make it come out of her nose either . She doesnt have any problems with inhaling analogs though . I am now DIYing though so i can make anything that would work best for her .

What can i do to make her stop coughing . I know reduce the nic levels .Maybe even 0 nic but how would 0 nic help her quit analogs ? Also VG should be less harsh although she has to use a carto because she hated atomizers so it cant be 100% VG unless maybe i thin it with DW . Any help with that stuff from someone experienced in vaping or with COPD would be greatly appriciated . My main question is what flavors are the least to make you cough ? From my own experience iv felt that chocolates are a little harsher than other juices . Stuff like Bobas bounty and bounty hunter as well as any tobacco flavor is also harsh . I havent really paid attention to the harshness of cirtain flavors though as i dont have any coughing problems . Iv never even had a smokers cough . Well thats about it ,let me hear your advice . Thanks

I coughed when I first got mine and I had 80% VG 20% PG but now I've switched to 70% PG and 30% VG and I don't cough at all. I never had a smokers cough either but vaping for me was hard to get used to at first. The only thing that really helped me stick with it through it all was that I was in love with the flavor I found. My original problem was VG won't feed through the carto on a tank mod so I switched to the 70/30 blend because of that but that's also when I realized that I stopped coughing on the new juice. Also to help a friend of mine I told her take it in your mouth and hold it breath some air into your nose then inhale. GL with your Mom! COPD is awful.

Thats weird .Pg is supposed to have more th than VG unless your allergic to VG maybe . I can get up to 90vg/10pg in a boge carto thinned with DW at 10% . Ill try going all pg as a last resort . I tried getting her to breath in through her nose but according to her shes not able to do any nasal activities lol .

Hey Straight 8. My father (60) has bad COPD w/emphysema so I know your frustration. He's a PAD Ultralight smoker and has horrible fits of coughing most of the day. He gets out of breathe incredibly easy. I tried him on a Bloog just at night and I think he took to it a little. On the 3rd night he handed it back to me and said it made him cough worse. I honestly dont even know if he even USED the Bloog as I never seen him use it. He said he did,but I think he felt foolish for using an Ecig. I tried one more time with a smooth ejuice with 6mg nicotine.....he took a faint drag and coughed horribly. I dont know what else to do.

do you guys think that maybe it might be in their heads. they have smoked so long that the very thought of giving up cigarettes is too much for them to bear? so they cough becuase they want to OR its just an involuntary response to the idea of quitting. i have a stepfather who is 60 years old, he has smoked since 14 years old. i have tried on more than one occasion to try get him on vaping. he wont budge. i would love to see him quit the smokes but i can only lead a horse to water i cannot force that horse to drink. im just afraid that if he dies from smoking, i will blame myself for not being more insistant that he at least tries it.i thought about giving him a cheap 510 pv and telling him its his decision what he wants to do with it. i would hope that currosity might get the better of him.

the man is just so stubborn clutching to the cigarettes that are probably killing him. i wish i could say that they arent affecting him but i just dont see how that is possible.

Sounds like the same boat . Sorry to hear about your father . She wouldnt have a problem using it though if she didnt cough everytime she did . She even likes some of the flavors . One thing i have noticed is that everyone coughs their first time using it . I never cough except the first couple days when i started vaping . The first day id cough everytime i hit the thing . I think if she continued to use it she may get over at least some of the coughing . Im just trying to get the juice as smooth as possible to see if she can do it . She doesnt have a real severe COPD . She for the most part is able to do things . Every once in a while she needs to use her inhaler .Maybe a few times a day when after going up and down the stairs a lot and at night . Im sure its getting worse though if she continues to smoke .

Took me about 3 weeks to get over coughing when I first started to vape. Also, there's the factor that when you quit the analogs, you will cough like crazy because your lungs are getting used to the change. So, there are two things going on- at least it did for me.

I inhale differently when vaping as opposed to smoking. I think there is a curve in learning how to vape that is comfortable. I kept at it though, even when the e-cig was irritating me to distraction.

Quitting smoking is something no one else can convince a person- they have to decide themselves. As long as there is not a desire to quit, there is nothing anyone else can say- not even fear of the Big C or whatever else. Everyone is different and has different attitudes about the process, some can quit on a dime and others struggle (like me).

Don't nag. Just encourage. Even if it's a combo of vaping and smoking, at least it's an improvement. At some point the desire to completely quit and switch to vaping will happen.

Sometimes, when I get a real hankering for an analog- I suck on a Commit lozenge whilst vaping a low nic juice. That seems to do the trick. The vape isn't as harsh, but I'm still getting the nic from the lozenge.

My mother has severe COPD and never coughed. My sister who's younger than me, coughed her head off.

I think it's the way they're inhaling somehow but it's difficult to explain to another person. I got my sister some very low nic juice in a mild flavor (I think it was Vanilla mint from KBV) for her to 'practice with. She's OK now.

you guys are missing the point a bit lol . Its not that she doesnt want to quit or switch to vaping . Shes totally fine with vaping as a way to quit smoking . Its just that she chokes trying to vape .

Im not nagging her to convert or anything .Shes willing to as long as she can do it and not choke her brains out .

I guess we are so used to the "Wont convert thread "lol .This is the "she wants to convert but cant thread"

I was thinking of trying some kind of vanilla as thats what i find the least harsh i think . I keep trying different combos/flavors i guess until i find something she may be able to not cough with .

Sorry to hear about the problems.
I coughed up a storm when I first started, plus the vapor actually hurt my lungs. I was able to take only 1 second draws at first. But I stuck with it, and by the end of the first week, I was up to 3 second draws. Now I draw until the cows come home lol. The only time it bothers me now is:
1. too high of nic
2. too high of nic with straight pg
3. when I have a chest cold

I think you're on the right track, finding a pg/vg blend for her, as well as cutting down the nic mg.
You can try her on a zero mix, then a 6mg, then a 12.... see where she can take it. It's good to have all those ratio's in our arsenal anyway as long as it's a favorite flavor.
If she can't handle it even with zero nic, then I would try flavorless. She might be allergic to a certain flavoring or brand or something. Flavorless vg and flavorless pg, and if she doesn't have a problem with either one, then try mixing those to her liking and make sure she has lots of her favorite gum or mint candies on hand for her "flavor".

Try some PinkSpotVapors.com Lemon Coconut Cookie. That has a mellow inhale, but lots of vapor, and a great smell.

Best of luck to you.

WOW ,thats a greaaaattt idea i didnt even think about . I think my first experiment on her will be with 0nic flavorless pg and vg . Ill start her off 100%VG thinned at 10% and then move to 50/50 then to 100% PG . If she cant do any of those after trying it for a day or two all the time then i know she just cant handle vaping . Thanks for the idea .

One of the hardest things that I had to learn when I switched, was HOW to vape. It is not the same as smoking. The technique is different. If a new vaper tries to "smoke" and e-cigarette, they will cough. Try having them take a long slow pull on the device, to allow the liquid to vaporize fully, hold the vapor in their mouth, and then inhale. It took a while for me to learn that, but it was all I needed to keep me off the analogs. I smoked for 46 years without a coughing problem, but my first few days on e-cigs were just like what you are describing. Been analog free for well over a year now. Hope this will help.

You're welcome! Combined with not inhaling too soon after taking a draw, hopefully she'll be on the road to healing without those smokes yet!

I went over the technique to vape it with her as well . When coughing she is barely inhaling sometimes not even getting it down her throat at all when she starts coughing . She actually does smokes like she should vape already . She gets the smoke in her mouth and just barely inhales . It seems just the vapor touching her throat makes her cough before she has a chance to inhale .

This is a very individual thing. When my mom started vaping I bought her ecoPure juice because it didn't have a lot of ingredients and it was all VG. She really couldn't vape that and she had issues with all VG (I do too). But this may work for her. You just never know until you try it. Someone mentioned in the new member thread that something in cartomizers made them cough.

The key is like Gadd said, you can't vape the way you smoke.
