Hey guys,

I have tried everything but for some reason I really enjoy smoking, probably because I have been doing it for so long I don't even remember how happy I was before smoking. I really need motivational words and help from you all to get me back on track. I thought this time I would quit for good and haven't smoked yesterday or the day before but had a cigarette just now and know I made a mistake and will keep trying but I enjoyed it so much that I don't know if I have the will power to quit for good.
I really need to quit because I started having heart issues lately and my toes are turning a dark shade of blue and the edges are becoming hard with the skin falling off. I'm a biology major so I know it is because enough oxygenated blood is reaching those areas due to my smoking habit, and am also experiencing an increase in heart palpation which I know is a sign of bad things to come if I continue this habit as my heart has to work harder to get the blood to the periphery.

I'm not even sure why I can't resist, I understand I am addicted but also am happy when I do other things I enjoy so I know I am not dependent on it however I also know I use nicotine as a way to deal with my problems. I begin to lose my thought clarity the first few weeks or months after quitting smoking and that bothers me the most. I know if I quit for a year I will begin thinking very clearly again but smoking seems to keep my brain active immediately and I'm not the most patient person.

Sorry for the long story but thanks for reading and any advice you can give.

I was just like you Yosh, I felt like my mind couldn't function without smoking. I was seeing bad side effects too, like chest pains so sharp that I thought I was having a heart attack, and I'm 24 years old.

I have seen you around here for a while and I remembered you b/c there weren't too many NYers when I started coming to this place. What you need is to do is really give the vaping a chance. You gotta find that perfect combination that can totally replace the analogs without you skipping a beat. When I started off with the weaker nic juice and just crappy e-cigs there was no reason in my mind to stop smoking at all. Once I got on line with higher nicotine and a good e-cig, I never even felt like I quit, you know?

The biggest motivater that I tell people all the time is the fact that I just feel better overall. You don't even realize it if you have been smoking for a long time how sh***y you feel until you haven't smoked for a few weeks.

If you honestly just don't smoke for a few weeks and you e-cigs in a way that you hardly notice no longer smoking, once you feel the good effects that will be it for you. I haven't started exercising since I started vaping or anything, but all the chest pains have gone away and the new energy has even helped out my mind.

I smoked for 43 years so I know a bit about habit, and I know every excuse in the book about why I dont need to give up.

Yoshistr, you have to start by being honest with yourself. Once that is out of the way, then things get easier.

Yes, if you set yourself a challenge of giving up smoking you can fail, we know that, so why set the challenge? surely you are more likely to succeed without the challenge.

When I bought my first e-cig, I didnt think, oh this is going to help me stop smoking, no, I said, this has got to be a healthier way of smoking..

So all I did, was simply smoke when I wanted or needed to, and vaped the rest of the time, to enjoy the experience of vaping different flavours etc.

After about 3 weeks of this I noted I was only smoking 5 a day, not 25 as was the case before. I was quite impressed with myself, so only at that point did I say, Yes, I can do this, I can use this to help me stop.

I did have a good e-cig, one that was right for me, and I did have a good selection of juice, most of which I had created myself as along the road I noted that PG didnt agree with me all that well.

A few weeks after that, I had a cigarette one evening, and I hated it, I finally was able to taste it as it really tasted, which wasnt very nice at all.

I have not had one since, that was 2 months ago............

My advice.... go to that meeting Waldo is speaking about, get encouragement from others, and learn to enjoy it, and to stop thinking that vaping is depriving you of anything, its not..

Good Luck my friend

Keep playing around with different devices, nico and flavors! Just remember you are not giving up smoking, just giving up tobacco. I hope you find like so many others that you soon just forget about the cigs.
Best luck,
David
A great way to take this advice would be to drop into the LI Vapers group meeting. You would have the opportunity to try several different models (probably everything that is out) and the juice flows like wine at a roman orgy.

I have to agree with this. I still smoke some analogs and I know it's because I haven't quite found that "perfect combination". For me, it hasn't been the devices...I love the ones I have. But it's been too low nic and not enough flavor.

On a good day, when I can actually taste the juice....it's absolutely heavenly....but that is a rarity because my tastebuds are so messed up.

Also, I am now experimenting with some higher nic and hope that will work toward that perfect combo. The irony is....I hate lighting up those analogs....but right now, they are still too compelling...and satisfying!

But I keep plugging away. I am grateful for any analogs my ecig replaces...so I don't look at it as failure.....only success. I imagine the ecig doesn't work for everyone but for me, I am determined to continue on. I figure it'll happen some day when I least expect it.

Keep the faith Yosh! :thumb:

I agree with DW... you should come to the vaper club meeting, I never thought i would be able to resist anologs, I have tried the gum, patches, everything...I had cancer in 2003 and radiation, my father died from lung cancer and I was still to weak to quit...however the ecig made it easy for me, there were times when I was discouraged, but refused to light up. Now its been about 6 months anolog free...sure sometimes I just want an anolog, but I know I dont need one...vape a little and the urge goes away...be strong!!! you can do it!!!
Don't allow yourself to be tempted by the evil seductress...and she is EVIL.

Peace.

Before I found this forum I wasn't too passionate about e-smoking..I was bascially doing half/half ecig/analogs.. Than I read about everyone enjoying it so much, along with the different flavors available etc and I gave it another go...

Well, guess what? I made it!!
I've been smoke free for 3 weeks...time is going by really fast right now...

I made myself vape for 3 days straight w/no cigarettes..than I tasted one and it was so disgusting...

I know its hard..my hubby and sister still smoke around me all the time and they are just amazed that I haven't asked for a cigarette..I am so determined b/c it is SO GREAT that we have a cool option that is close to smoking but w/out the negative side effects..just keep telling yourself that..it could be worse..3 yrs ago they didn't have the option we have..We are lucky!

Yoshistr, your either wearing blue sock that stain your toes or you really need to see the Doctor. You need a Doctor more than you need to quit analogs and that is bad.

None of you men will go to the doctor till your almost gone.

After you see the doctor, don't be so hard on yourself. Trying to quit analogs has prevented more people from quitting than anything. Learn to enjoy vaping and eventually you will move away from analogs.

When you put down you analog and let it burn up to have a e-cig you know your getting close.

Well, after you've been exclusively vapin' you'll notice how really bad that the cig tastes... it was unbelievable!

I used to think, someday, I'll probably smoke again just like I have with all the other NRT and stuff... but I'm quite convinced, after I smoked a couple days ago at a bbq for sh*ts and giggles... I'm never going back to that, just because of the horrific taste.

Also motivate yourself with a cool looking gadget(s) - which if you find the one for you, you have good chance of saving lots of money in the long term. But truth to be told, these little gadgets are very addicting to collect, so a lot of has spent a small fortune - myself in 50 days, I've spent 600 dollars exact. I'm pretty much set for next several months for hardware wise, just need to get some more juice in about... a month, I'd say. Probably will cost another 60 dollars for maybe 100ml of juice that will give me another month and half... but see, 1 pack of cig costs near 10 dollars in NYC.

At first, I thought I was only getting 50-70%of actual smoking pleasure with e-cig. Now it feels like 110%. :)

I have to agree with this post. You are way to young to be having blue toes. IANAD but since my accident I have learned a lot about lower extremities and most recently about heart problems. If you are having blue toes you need to get to a doc ASAP.

And that meeting that DW is talking about sounds great! I wish I was able to travel to the the merting in TN but I just can't do it.

The stench of analogs is enough motivation for me. I have many friends who smoke and they reek, it's just nasty.:p I still have a craving now and then for an analog but a few puffs off any of my e-cigs and it goes away. I never thought I could quit, but I did after almost 30 yrs of smoking, you do have to want to quit for it to work, and the stink was the final movation for me.

Hope you find what yopu need to kick the analogs, the problems you are having with your feet would be alarming to me, I would be at the doctors office tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for the responses, I have read them all and keep thinking I'm going to do it today then procrastinate and it keeps going on.
The thing is I do enjoy vaping just as much as the old analogs but at the same time some how I convince myself that by vaping I'm cheating because I'm still putting nicotine into my body.
I know I have a lot to gain by smoking analogs, but I over use the liquid and get some nasty side effects such as nausea, clammy hands, loss of coordination, among others. On the other hand I do gain a lot too such as being able to actually breathe without feeling like I'm suffocating, a better sense of smell and taste, and being happy because I can enjoy life more.

 I'm so confused that I can lie to myself and trick myself into smoking analogs by telling myself that even if I did quit eventually I would start again by getting drunk and messing up like so many times before. I feel like I don't want to let myself down again by failing to quit so I keep on smoking thinking eventually something will get me to quit but I know it is a fantasy and won't happen unless I saddle the horse so to speak.

I have hidden the analogs, and my music player which seems to be the main culprit and trigger to my smoking habit. Instead I will keep myself occupied tomorrow and vape 36 mg liquid and hopefully bring it down in the upcoming weeks. I'm looking forward to weight lifting again without needing cigarettes in between sets.

Unfortunately I can't go to the meetings because a lack of transportation but the motivation definitely appears contagious :).

I will keep you all updated with my progress and I look forward to being more active in this online community to help others out!

Yosh....

One thing you need to put in your thoughts as you battle the tobacco addiction....

Each and every cigarette you DON'T smoke is a victory. Count 'em off, one by one....I didn't smoke here....I didn't smoke here....that is the empowerment you need to cultivate.

IF you fall off the bandwagon, and have a cig, you haven't failed....you've had a setback...a momentary lapse in good judgement, but hey, we're all flawed human beings, and we do that.

The only time you've failed to quit smoking is if you give up - throw in the towel, light up, and continue to badger yourself into a muck fugue that you can't quit. DON'T GIVE UP!!

And go see your doctor about them blue toes...please....we want you to stay around for a good, long time.
