Just in case you really need to measure the length of your batteries (some do vary),
scotch tape on the positive end (which you could subtract from your final measurement) would be a safe way.
Once done you could make a dowel rod dummy for fitting purposes.

Thanks for the tip, even though it takes out all the fun. The little sparks were pretty.

Wish they would hurry up and charge so I know they can be charged. They've been charging for about 6 hours now.
