The actual board that will vote on this ordinance is meeting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18th, and while they are not expected to vote on the regulations until the June 1st meeting, that cannot be counted on.

Those in attendence Monday night were told that their remarks would be transcribed and given to the board, however, CASAA highly suspects that representatives from anti-electronic cigarette organizations, such as the ALA or ACS, will be in attendence at tomorrow's meeting to make their case. This will give them the advantage, as the written transcript of last night's speakers would not possibly have the same impact upon the board members as hearing them in person. (If we had wanted the board to just read our comments, we would have simply submitted the form and not shown up at the meeting.)

It seems that the members of Tacoma's e-cigarette community were at the wrong meeting. Because we can be almost certain that those supporting the ban of indoor use will take the opportunity to address the board tomorrow, CASAA is urgently calling to our members and those who attended Monday's meeting to bring their comments with them back to Wednesday's meeting. It is of the utmost importance that the board members see and hear real members of the community so that the efforts of last night's attendence will not be be for naught.

Please contact Director Thad Marney at board@casaa.org to coordinate attending and speaking at tomorrow night's meeting!

If you cannot attend, please see our Call to Action page for other options to address the board: http://www.casaa.org/CTA/article.asp?articleID=165&l=a&p

You guys are going to love this.

I placed a call this afternoon to Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland and left a voice mail.
I let her know that I was from South Carolina, but interested in this proposed bill
She called back and explained what the proposed legislation was about. I gave her my story of being a 40 year cigarette smoker and having used the E-Cig since last September. I urged her to reconsider the indoor ban on E-cigs.
She asked if I was an elected official. I truthfully told her "No" that I was in fact a E-Cig vendor in South Carolina. Her attitude immediately changed to cool and she quickly ended our conversation.
My personal opinion is that she is all for this indoor ban.

Good Luck out there!!

Would it do any good to contact some of the local news outlets about this bait & switch tactic? I wonder how the general public would feel about how this was done, even if they don't have an interest in the specific issues of e-cigs.

Yes, please do. I'm also sending out a follow-up to last night's press release right now.

Phone numbers for all officials can be found at our Call to Action page: CASAA.org

Make sure to be nice and civil.

Very unfortunate that you had a negative experience with Ms. Strickland.

Yes, I got the number from the CTA.
I am of the firm belief of "Pick up the Phone and Givem a Call".

I was very surprised when she returned the call, knowing that I was not a local constituent and out of state.
I think she is hoping I was an elected official and could give her ammunition "for" the ban.

It's sad that this seems to be the standard for all political practice in the US. For too long we have left the local government to their whims while the spotlight is firmly targeted on federal government. I say no more. I, for one, intend to be civilly disobedient should the e-cig ban be passed here in Atlanta. Sure, I'll play nice until then. After the ban, all bets are off.

I guess that makes sense too....start at 3pm because most people work for a living and can't leave work early for a 3pm meeting....

what a bunch of douschebags....

It starts at 3 PM. Hopefully we'll have another broadcast, or at least an audio recording after it's over.
