Approximately 6 speakers so far -- 2 opponents of the indoor vaping ban and 4 proponents, including reps from the American Cancer Society and Americans for Nonsmokers Rights. The ANR rep was particularly terrible.

Yes, I cringed as soon as I heard "Americans for Nonsmokers Rights". What BS.

None of those folks were there for the previous meeting.
But they've all come out of the woodwork suddenly.

It's starting to look like someone really did pull a fast one on us.

Nevermind... reading is not my strong suit.
:)

Staff is recommending that vaping be permitted indoors in certain restricted venues, like areas where minors aren't allowed . . . I'm guessing porn stores and some bars late at night.

Having said that, though, there seemed to be some feeling of certain BOH members that perhaps regulating indoor use right now might be premature.

Should be interesting to see how this unfolds.

It is not too late to submit comments . . . and, in fact, I think it would be extraordinarily helpful.

We need to remind the board of health that the smoking ban requires property owners or managers to enforce the regulation. In the absence of any scientific justification, the burden of proof MUST fall on the side attempting to restrict the property owner's right to allow or disallow the use of simulated smoking devices.

We can encourage the Board that they should take steps to educate businesses wishing to allow indoor vaping, such as the use of "No Smoking - Vaping Permitted" signs. If a property owner is truly concerned that allowing the use of e-cigarettes indoors might have unintended consequences, they remain free to establish and enforce their own policies.
