We just switched in a new CDN to try and alleviate any local pageload issues for some visitors. A CDN or content distribution network takes static files off our server and provides them for you (in theory) from a server nearer to you, helping to speed up some pageload issues in some cases.

Either it works for you or (in the case of those with fast pageloads already) it won't make any difference. However it may need some images re-uploaded or sorted out in some other way, so that they display correctly. For example in this post:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/buzz-mods/255933-vvprov-discussion-thread-3.html#post5981932

...the first four images are on an image hosting website like tinypic, and should display correctly but don't. The fifth image is #1 uploaded to ECF. All of these should work but don't. It could be that the pics just need to sync properly and that will fix it. Otherwise, our forum devs will hopefully sort this out before long.

Haven't noticed any real issues on my end except for today I don't see attached images in the classifieds. I see hotlinked images just fine, but attached ones just have a link instead of an image. Off to look for an example, BRB . . .

EDIT: here's a good example that has both image types

The hotlinked images show just fine, but the attached images show only links

not sure if the following is cdn related or caused.
yesterday whiskey, using chrome, was able to view only 6 threads in the new vets welcome forum. this subforum has 420 threads which displayed properly in ie and ff.
i do not know if the problem resolved itself by now but will check and report back if necessary.

edit - this problem persists this am.

I get the "Looking up <link>" message in Firefox frequently and sometimes that takes a few seconds. I've tried changing DNS servers to speed up the URL resolve times (with success). Sometimes that helps but the problem seems to come back regardless of which DNS server I use. I think maybe all DNS servers experience overload at times. I use namebench - Open-source DNS Benchmark Utility - Google Project Hosting from time to time for determining who is fastest on lookups.

Considering that the hardware is in the UK, I get fairly good page load times in the Southeast US.

Actually the servers are in Michigan :)

About 70% of our visitors are from the US so that's where we have our hosting. The new CDN should help people on the West Coast or Florida (FL seems to have slower networks than elsewhere), and some overseas locations.

Page load times depends mainly on your broadband provider and computer, we have people in other countries getting 3 or 4 second pageloads without fail. However there could be cases where some content is slow, so the new CDN might help them.

I can still see some issues, and we will have to work through them.

For the time being, you can get an image to display by replacing an tag with an [img] one. Edit the po...tly:
change to
(funny stuff above is because you can't write these code tags on a page, they don't print correctly)
