I’m liking the new theme more each day as far as functionality. Visually, not so much. When another post is quoted the quote is almost invisible to me along with the new like buttons. As others have noted there doesn’t seem to be enough contrast or maybe darkness/ color in the text or graphics. Quotes in posts are much more readable in the e cigarette forum theme.

Not bashing or criticizing as these old eyes are the main cause of my issues but the reality is they are only going to get worse in the future.

As my “weapon of choice” for viewing the interwebz is an iPad I’d like to hear from other iPad users as to any ways they’ve found to make the contrast and text size more eyeball friendly. I consider myself pretty tech savvy for an old guy but I find myself constantly fiddling with the display and accessibility settings to no avail. Bumping up the font size has no effect on this website. I’d be tickled to death if I could post a whole page of face palms if someone could tell me gee, all you have to do is..............:)

Thanks......

I 'pinch' my screen to expand it so text covers the page. Basically enlarging so I don't see the avatar side. So far the only time I need to do this is when my eyes are tired at the end of the day.

Yes, it's a pain because it goes back to normal when I change pages. Then I have to do it again.

Yep, I do that too and it is a pain to say the least. The iPads dynamic text sizing and font sizing work on some web sites (not all) and not this one For sure.

Thanks for responding. Much appreciated.:)

I'd second the issue on the quote. IMHO, when replying to someone's post being able to read more of the quoted statement to establish some basis for a reader to understand what's being discussed in that individual post. I thought it was a bit difficult in the regular ECF format, but in this theme it's way worse. I also think, at least for me, wider margins on the thread itself would also be helpful. My upper right hand avatar and info along with members online now is still too wide, taking away from the actual thread.

Agreed, completely. Sometimes a reply to a quote makes zero sense when the quoted material is nearly hidden (as it stands now). It would be more helpful to actually see the quoted post clearly.

I'd also be one to say I'd love for the right hand info on the member, and members online now be gone!

And plus one for the peeps who would prefer a square (and more zaftig) avatar. Pweeze. I don't look good in round.

Please....please...fix whatever it is that's giving me alerts to threads and posts that I have no connection to.. I have checked all 3 boxes to "ignore".....and still am getting alerts to ignored threads...:(
I've never quoted myself before... I hate to always be appearing to complain...:(
It has occurred to me that perhaps this is an endeavor to elicit wider participation in the forum, and I can understand that. I have comfortable places that I don't usually wander far away from...;) I don't mind taking a look to see what it's about, and posting to a thread, if I have something to contribute, but...when I've perused it, have no questions, and nothing of value that I can add, I'd really rather not have it reappear in my alerts....;)

Hello! So it's been a while and I really tried to get used to the new theme. Not there yet, alas. And here are the reasons I like the default ECF skin better (not necessarily in order of importance, but pretty close):

1. Navigation. When I log on, I do three things--check my Inbox, my Alerts and then go to my Watched Threads. All three are there on my old toolbar, clearly visible, one simple click takes me to the content I want. Not so in Aluminum, which I find a bit less convenient. Actually, a lot less convenient.

2. Visibility and readability. ECF skin is tighter, the shading provides more contrast, quoted posts stand out (even though I was never a fan of that pumpkin hue ;)), the font is darker and thus easier to read, there's no huge empty space on top of every thread, the size of members' info (left) and the text box are just right, my personal info (on the right side) is properly sized and provides the information about me that is rather useful, etc. Somehow, in Aluminum, everything seems to be floating, not really anchored properly, for lack of better description.

3. The blinking green dot is annoying. Sorry. Why does it have to blink?

4. Round avatars are not my cup of tea. Heck, I used to have a big 200 x 200 pixels avatar in the old days--they've been shrinking and shrinking with every forum changeover. Not a big deal, but it was fun. :D

Just my :2c:. YMMV, as always. :)

Carry on!

Another tech idiot question... What does it mean that I can stay on the theme I am using, but it will no longer be supported?

Not sure but I think it means that while the older theme will still be available - there will be no updates to the "functionality"/"Look" . . . Similar to what happens in previous versions of a program or operating system - like Windows XP . . . ;)

Letitia, where did you find that information that the old themes will no longer be supported? I'm not sure what it means, myself. I'm back in my most favorite skin, the ECF default, and I hope I'm safe here. Any information on the subject would be much appreciated.

What does this mean? Supported (or not supported) in what way?

Anyone? ;)

not supported, at least in the software field I work in, means no more bug fixes or new features added.

I'm still having trouble with simple search (adv ok) as it returns a result then goes into a page crash loop. Might be due to my legacy Safari (pre Android flatness). More and more sites don't pass SSL muster or get squirrelly with it. Guess it's bout time to choose security over form/function and bite the bullet on the OS up. Sooner or later ECF won't work with it. But meantime would love to know if there's a fixer in the offing for the search time being. Hope it's not just me and these old bones.

Good luck. :)

Is there anyone else but me experiencing this local thread hang on search? Feeling lonely.

Good luck. :)

Sorry, nope. No problems here--W10, Google Chrome.

We need a sympathy button. In the meantime, I'm giving you a heart.;)

Thank you, I couldn't remember which thread. Was going to cruise my posts if no one answered. :)

Did a search. I found this in an older, now closed thread (can't quote from it anymore).

And for those that want it, I will leave the old theme up - although it will become unsupported and I can't promise it won't get broken over time.

@Oliver--that makes me sad. Any idea when the old ECF skin will become "unsupported"?

ETA: The reasons why I switched back to the old ECF skin are explained above in post #392.
