Well, guys, I thought I was getting it. I really did. I had a steady coil going for a couple of days, and everything seemed peachy. Fastforward to this afternoon. Nothing would stop my coil from misbehaving. No amount of poking, prodding, and fiddling around would get that coil working right.

So I gave up. I put the DID down.

I vaped on my backup devices for a while, did some research, cleared my mind, and came back to it. Wrapped a fresh coil, metered it out at 2.5 ohms. Fiddled, got rid of the hot spots. Plonked the cap on. Tried a vape. Tasted hot again. Cap off. Sure enough, more hot spots. Poked, prodded. Still hot. Finally, I got fed up, stuck my microdriver/coil poker down the wick and yanked it vertical. Test-fired. No hot spots. Cap on, cap off. Test fire again. No hot spots. All the coils were lit up more evenly than I'd seen yet. Topped off my juice, took a vape, and ...

Me, in my best Keanu Reeves impression: Whoa.

NOW I've got it. Just hope I can duplicate the process when the time comes to change my coil.

And the key? Don be afraid to give it a kick. Some gently pick. I'm at a point where there is nothing gently about it. A good yank or tug and voila. Congrats

I guess I am giving up. I "ain't" no dummy, I have an IQ of 135, I can take anything apart - find out whats wrong with it -- fix it --- and put it back together. Every new project I have done the first time, usually takes me a couple of hours to figure it out -- and by the end of the day, I am usually fairly proficient at it. Usually everything except, this darn DID.

The first wick, I followed all the videos I studied while waiting for it to ship. Pre-burn, fold edge, roll, three burn and quench, three juice burns, don't let wick touch the bottom. I wrapped a coil, kept shorting out, so I tried another coil.....same thing, then wick got bent, so I rolled another.

The second wick seemed to work, but the flavor wasn't that good and had a metallic taste. I read another post saying the same thing about the metallic taste, and they got the answer that the mesh wasn't oxidized enough.

I rolled a third wick and burned the cr-p out of it. Instead of three burns, I DID five burns and made sure it was nice and black. I DID a three coil wrap. It worked, no shorts and a constant 1.8om for three days. Flavor wasn't that great, and the vapor was just mediocre, and I had to really tip it up to wick the juice. Came here and posted about it, I was told to make sure the wick was snug in the hole (not to tight), and a couple other things to watch out for.

The fourth wick I made thicker with slight tension in the hole, DID the extra burns, four coil wrap. I had bought a lighted magnifying glass, and made sure the whole coil was touching the wick (but not to tight). I had shorts again. Tried two new coils on this wick. I figured maybe the wick was too tight in the hole and the oxidation was getting scraped off the wick when it was sliding in the hole.

So I made a fifth wick, slightly smaller. Used magnifying glass, DID every thing else the same. And I had the same problem with this one as I had all along. Got the coil all nice and even, then tighten the nuts which caused the top coil to get too tight making a hot spot on that top coil. and like usual, I turned the two nuts counter clockwise to loosen up the top coil, then it glowed perfectly. DID some test vaping, it was "OK" then error sign. Opened it up and noticed the nuts got loose, I tightened them up/checked the top coil again. I had to re-tighten the nuts (((((((4)))))))) times. My fingernails were all worn down from messing with those nuts. Tooth picks were breaking trying to tighten those nuts. I felt like throwing the Da-n thing out the window.

So, I took that "Darn-Blasted Thing" off my ProVeri and installed my Boge Carto, and saw all that vapor pouring out of my mouth, and that WONDERFUL clean crisp taste, and started to wonder---- WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING!

So, I have already spent the money for this, so I guess after I get verified -- I'll go on the Classifieds and See if I can swap this thing for a Steam Machine.
Turnforward,

I own a DID and I've had it for two weeks now. Like you, I was really disappointed. So far I have successfully made two heater coils after several attempts. I agree with you. The Genesis style DID vapor is harsh, biting and hot. I've decided to use silica wick pieces on the wire mesh section where the coil is wound as an insulation against the coil shorting on to the wire mesh. I am now vaping happily. The vapor is the best tasting I have ever experienced. It does not affect the taste of any liquid that I am familiar with other atomizers. In fact, all my liquids taste so much better plus clouds of smokes (vapor). I am also thinking of getting a yard of cilica cloth .030" thick (thinnest available). I think the cloth will be easier to use over the wire mesh. But, anyway try what I did on my DID. You'll be ok with it.

Hi Jim just ordered my top cap plus a few spares :)
There was no menu for Australian state in the address section so I added Queensland in the second line of my address. Couldn't find your email regarding the details you required for the top cap pre order, so I hope it's all as it should be .
Now the Waiting

I've never had a harsh hit, not ever. Even when it's bone dry, there's no harsh hit, when it's bone dry there's just no vapor.
In order to experience a harsh hit, I'd have to choke my wick with too tight of coil, have a short somewhere, lower the ohms, plus more than likely, raise the volts.
Check your ratio, your wrap, and your oxidation. Take 2 puffs and call me in the morning. :D

If you just can't seem to master it no matter what you do, then there are cheats available. Here is a cotton cheat for those interested. We all need extra help now and again and this seems like an easy way to achieve vaping nirvana until the RBA (no matter which RBA you're using) is mastered.

Hello all

I keep having to push the pos terminal down to get my did to fire..what is the fix for this

Sounds like the issue some of the rest of us have had. What device are you using it on? You may have to find a fiber / plastic washer to put under the center post at the bottom where the 510 connector is at to get a good connection. I wound up making a plastic spacer for my mini DID.

I've seen some of the P+ users use a size M2 SS washer. Just slide the washer onto your center post before inserting the center post into the base of the atty. Some have used an o-ring. It's no big deal, after you have several DID's on hand to devote to various mods and juices. Maybe eventually Jim will make us a self adjusting center post or something, but even those have big p.i.a. quirks.

a plastic spacer..oh no..I am using on a custom mod...I see where your going with this..really that is unfortunate

The spacer would actually go in the 510 connector of the DID, it wont matter what kind of mod/apv you are using. If you disassemble the DID and pull out the + post the spacer will go into the 510 connector, then reinsert the post and reassemble the DID. This will keep the post in position and keep you from having to push it down to make contact. I hope this helps.

You can also try wrapping some pure silver NR wire around post in between the foot of the + post and the nylon spacer. If not, slide a tiny oring on there and then screw your DID onto your mod before securing the lower nut on the top part of the + post so it locks it all in exactly where you want it.
