Wick and Coil observations:
OK, my latest recoiling and wick combo on my big DID as follows; 28 gauge Kanthal, 500 ss mesh, and mech mod Uranos. I just got my 28 gauge kanthal from Ebay seller. I was using braided coils prior. After reading the 500 mesh thread, I decided to try for a 5 wrap on 500 mesh, with big DID, and a fat solid wick. The ohms are reading 1.9, for me , my sweet spot. Taste and vape are great. I am currently using a 65/35 pg/vg, with low nic of 4 mg. Still getting TH and taste. Vaping a bit more, as I downgrade my nic level, but still great. The reason for this post is to tell all newbies, having trouble with coil hot spots, this was the simplest coil I have yet built. The thicker wire allowed me to build coil straight onto wick, rather than a screw. The coil, at this gauge, has excellent muscle memory, and stays put, plus once attached is very easy to manipulate due to its thickness. A good snug down of top nut, a tooth pick inserted between wick and center pole and a slight pry away to assure coils are not touching center pole, and its good to go. NO HOT SPOTS, easy peasey. Absolutely, much less fiddle than 32 gauge, less fiddle than 30 gauge. I tell you I can man-handle the coil and it does not warp or degrade, very forgiving, and no hot spots. I am careful to keep coil grounded until it begins its wick climb. I check with a multimeter and unlike most of my thinner coils that meter around the map before settling, this 28 gauge settles down quickly and cleanly and reads a steady 1.9 continuously. The wicking of 500 mesh is incredible, I can literally watch the juice levels drop precipitously. The 5 wrap coil creates great volume. I must credit bj43, from the 500 mesh thread, with precisely defining and experimenting the ideas I am now employing. It has improved the ease of my coiling and the satisfaction gained. I recommend all read the lengthy 500 mesh thread, located in the modder area, it is just chalked full of very strong ideas for all Genesis users, of course the finest being the wonderful DID product.
