No need to worry Mr. Mann, I'm strictly an unflavored/menthol or tobacco man myself. I do find myself cutting my DIY by anywhere from 25-50% in flavoring though.

So either your DID made you discover that your vendor juice was obscenely over flavored (which IMO is the norm) or you were getting a kind of 'sub clinical' short somewhere that was ruining the taste. Also not to beat a dead horse the wick needs a full 3 ml IMO to really shine.

Sometimes I'll have no shorts anywhere from the Provaris point of view, but a funny taste. I take a look and the wick is touching the brass nuts. Just a tiny nudge and its fixed.

I sense your avatar is less than thrilled at that remark

I've been meaning to ask about the thick wick option; have not yet attempted this. I thought perhaps that making the lightly thinner might decrease potential for shorts, as less of the mesh is touching the wick hole, but I can see that might not be a problem assuming you have a 100% properly oxidized wick in that area.

However, does the thicker wick making contact with all sides of the wick hole not somehow impede the capillary action of the liquid? I don't profess to know the scientific ins and outs of capillary action but in laymans terms, would the fluid not be obstructed somehow in reaching the top of the mesh? Thoughts?

See, I totally got that point, but there was no way I could vape the flavor until it broke in. So, I tried a different flavor and that's when the problems arose. Either which way, the whole time it took me to get up and running from start to finish was about 10 minutes. The basic set-up is becoming simple, but the devil is in the details!

I found my ultimate vape. I built a 3/2 wrap at 2.0 ohms. With my VV Box mod (until the Provari arrives). The vapor is mega, with a silky soft texture, that reminded me of an old Boge Leo I used to vape, ten fold! The flavor is just INCREDIBLE!!! The nic delivery is like hitting an analog, that's just all in all, gives me 110% satisfaction!

All Hail to the DID, and Big Jim the creator! :)

Can anyone tell me why every video I see of wick oxidizing they all use butane gas torches, do I need one of these or could I just oxidize the s/s mesh using my gas hob ?

I don't know what a gas hob is, but butane and propane burn about the same temp. Butane does burn a little cleaner, but shouldn't make much difference as long as it's blue flame (orange seems to carbonized more that oxidize). Both will insulate, but I've always had problems with carbonized wicks (fingers get nasty, stuff seems to end up in the tank and it's really easy to scrape off and get hot spots/shorts).

Hmm interesting question. My wicks are a full ~40mm x ~50mm (trimmed to height) and are as wide as the wick hole (they twist in with just enough friction to keep them from falling in). From a science perspective, I think you may be right that additional surface tension caused by proximity to the wick hole wall may initially be prohibitive. Once everything settles in, I think the amount of capillary action (wick end to end) would not be affected. What may make a difference is the lack of air return around the wick so as juice gets pulled out it may cause a vacuum in the tank - might be why really heavy vapers need to leave the fill screw out to equilibrate (I do see bubbles come out the center of the wick hole into the tank).

I guess in the end, the proof is in the pudding. Jim made the wick hole wider than most other geni style atomizer to get consistent wicking, but mileage may vary.

That's awesome! I've found I'm happiest between 1.8ohm and 2.2ohm. What wire gauge are you using? I'm running a twisted wire 4/5 with 34awg k-a1 and measuring in at 2.1ohm. I bet 2.0ohm on a 2/3 warms up nice and quick.

I hear ya, I do like polished SS (especially when they shine like dspins) but satin is my preference as well. Would look really good on my flat top P+ :). Perhaps I'll practice on some SS and see how easy it is to create a satin finish. I have access to a bead blaster, but not sure that would give the desired result. Either way, love the DID, Jim has really made something special for us! Can't thank him enough, though perhaps buying several more of his products IS thanks enough ;)

Cool, I know it's not popular but I prefer satin over polished in almost everything. Just seems more industrial to me. I saw a thread (can't remember where, sry) where someone had used Jeweler's rouge and wet sanded a polished to get a beautiful satin look. Now that I think of it, I think there was a pic of someone that had done it to match a P+ (going to look for it now)

Thanks Cloud Wizard. I'm using 32 gauge Type D Kanthal. It heats up quickly. I would like to try that twisted method in the near future.

Interesting, my top nut was low. I am still figuring out how to keep those top two nuts from loosening. I have read the tips, but it is a matter now of "keeping clear" of the nuts when set.
As in refilling? If so, I noticed my nuts turning whenever using the wrench on the filler screw too. My Fix for that? I now hold the wrench and spin the atty. Works like a charm. No loose screws around here except for me. :)

Thanks Uma!! LOL!! I haven't made a batch of the coffee extract quite some time now. I've been a Hangsen Essence tobacco nut lately. I will revisit it soon. I just made some FA Caramel. Now that my flavors shine. I will go back to lots of my creations and teachings!

I get that too strong kind of flavor when the top nut is too low on the positive post.
What I think happens is that it allows more splatter to reach my mouth. The taste is intense but IMO unpalatable.

It could also just all be my imagination so YMMV.

Here is what the gap looks like.

Try using a fourth nut for adjustment.

Hi Cloud Wizard, just to clear it up for you a Gas Hob as we call it in the U.K is the gas burners on the top of your cooker/stove.
You must have a great wife/husband as by the sounds of it you don't do too much cooking...lol.

Man, I miss cooking on Gas stoves. Harmudge, most stoves in North America are electric. They are standard issue in most houses, unless you specifically upgrade to a gas stove.

Since we are also discussing DID colours, I would like to request a Black satin please to match my 2 Provari's. I may need to look into plating options locally, as I am sure it would look AWESOME!!

I'm (*-*) this close to making my first batch.
Have to wait til it cools down here first. I'm at super low energy right now. Don't like the heat and visa versa. All I do lately is sit at the pc or at the xbox (kid's into MineCraft lately and is teaching me my way around the blocks). which means that most likely I'll be here patiently waiting for you get YOUR hiney back in the kitchen. :)
