What a nightmare I had this weekend, using Kanthal Type D. It seems that it picks up every minute short, and does not hold up to much heat. I have some nichrome to hold me over until my Kanthal AWG arrives.

The D is the same as the A-1 only can sustain 100 degrees less heat...nichrome is basically 2 twisted wires...nichrome should work well,i use that in my kayfun tanks

The poles i seen now on jim's site... are they ss already?

Edit---- seeeshhh... im too anxious.... i'm trying to reason myself if i need more DIDs lol

Btw, here's a tip i'm using, wooden skewers. aproximately 2-2.5mm in size. Helps me remove wet wicks by twisting it slowly on a mesh it will catch and tighten the mesh so its easier for cleaning :)

FINALLY! After 12 hours of uploading (not an exaggeration!), part 1/3 is uploaded! Enjoy!

Hats off to you RW! Just DID your wick and what a really REALLY nice tasting wick. I wrapped a 4/5 w/32awg-ka1 and it measures in at a really comfortable 2.4ohm. I had one short, probably because a pre-coil and then twist in my wick and scraped on the 2nd wrap (these are way softer than my thick/fat wicks). One nudge and a juice burn later and right back to 2.4ohm and super juicy clean flavor. Now I'm anxious for parts 2/3 and 3/3.

The coil keeps on getting loose on me. I don't have a 4th nut. I'm going to try a shim on the center post. To avoid slippage.

I've been using a set of hemostats to lock the bottom top nut and needle nosed pliers to tighten the top (not too tight scared to snap a post). Can't wait to get the SS tall bottom nut and those issues go away...

Hi
I want to ask something about the Foto Album Thread
I made a mistake with no saying this on the first post!
I wish to make posts only with a new foto
we can ask and answer anything in there BUT we have to put a new foto with the DID in it.
If we do so we will have a Foto Album!
Please I do not want anybody to feel bad
this was my mistake!

Classswife will help us with cleaning the empty from fotos posts

Thank you

I brought this over from the Foto Album Thread, it's helpful information :)

Got my DID in today, it's beautiful! It's my first Genesis.
However...
Spent the better part of 4 hours trying to make it work right. Watched several videos, before during and after, and searched the interwebs looking for help, no luck ):
My problems:
1. Horrible metal taste, Unbearable, made me sick, and I still have a headache!
2. Ohm reading that's all over the board from .9ohms to 2.5, on the same wrap.
3. Hot spots like crazy!

I'm not going to give up, a couple times I did manage to make plumes of vapor, however it was repulsive metallic vapor, but clouds of it none the less.

I know there is a ton of info out there but any pointers will be appreciated.
I know it's all my fault, yet it's still discouraging.

Thanks!

I am now vaping my DID shorty on a Precise 18350. Can't get over how small it is. It's not bulky at all and make for a beautiful package with the shorty DID.

I think once Jim update the site with SS post (I have no problem with brass, but might as well order a few of the SS for fun), I will order 2 more DID in both lengths.

Not sure what I would match the mini with tho... Maybe Mini + Precise with slant top? hmmm....

Had to recoil today.... getting maybe 6-7 tankfuls before the coil gets gunked up. The first time it happened I just removed and cleaned the wick and dry-burned the coil, but this time it acted more finicky so I just replaced it. It took a bunch of liquid and some fiddling, but I'm happy to say it's working fine at 2.6 ohms:)

Is this the standard amount of time between dry burns/cleaning? Maybe 20-25mls (just guessing)? I suppose I should look up better ways to clean the thing... A freshly cleaned wick and new coil really performs better. Flavor is really popping! These things really are great!

Also: Is there any reason to torch the kanthal besides making it easier to coil? I've been skipping this step (I coil onto the wick and then insert). I did get a metallic taste for a few draws but it went away with more fiddling.

Ya, the lighter trick burns off that awful metallic taste. :p

Back in metallurgy class we used to make our own Gold & Silver wire. We used a special wire rig that pulled our metal stock through a round die hole. We repeated the process over and over though a succession of smaller dies until we had the size we wanted. We used wax or oil to lube the die to prevent binding and friction. Some of that lube gets impregnated into the micro pores of the work piece till it is later annealed (Heat Treated) or cleaned in a ultrasonic cleaner.

well... I am a dumbass... cracked my 2nd clear :( I said I would check the list every time but obviously didn't... Didn't think Cherry Blossom would crack it... duh... of course it is on the "list"...

lasted for 4 hours or so and then boom, 2 full length cracks and few smaller ones... so sad :( my shorty is going back on steel till I can get my hands on more clear... I think I need to stock up on them with me being so careless with them :(

User error on myself. I'm just not having any luck this weekend.

Jimi, D is fine - no worries. As far as you having issues - I always throw a wire on and away I go. NOT yesterday, 8 coils and I still couldn't get it right. That happens to all of us from time to time, even me. When I get home I will throw on another wire and all should be well. Yesterday was a terrible Genisis day for me. Tried another set-up on a diff gen, same thing. Just couldnt do anything right.
