When I 1st got my DID I thought it was too airy, but once I got used to it the draw started to feel to stiff. So i have been thinking of boring the air hole out to 1/16.for the last week or two. Mostly dreading messing it up as I don't have another top. Well tonight I decide to go for it. Wow was it simple. The drill bit went thru like butter and it was over in a sec.

Needless to say I'm lovin it. Lots more vapor and I don't notice any decrease in flavor or TH. To anyone thinking about doing it but worried of ruining your top cap, just do it, it's as easy as screwing the cap on.

I'm with you. However, I have two standard DID's and have one top cap like Jim sent and the other drilled to 1/16. Both are great for diff juices. It is a game changer for sure. Glad it worked out for you. It's amazing what the size of that air hole can do.

Have a question for a battery guru: I've been using some 30g kanthal, and wrapping a 3-4 to 4-5 wrap and getting between 1.2 to 1.4 ohm coils, and been using on my provari at 3.3volts. If I put this setup on a non regulated battery mod, say with the high drain 18650, is there a possibility of overtaxing the battery running it at such a low resistance? It will blow clouds I'm sure, and maybe kill some taste, but I'm not sure if that's a "smart" way to go. Thanks!

I use all mechanical and 3.7 w/IMR batts. One DID is wrapped with 30G and 4/5 wraps - the other is 32 G and 3/2 wraps - sometimes 4/3 wraps - no problem. Dont worry about ohms- I never check my ohms - I go by # of wraps and what tastes best. I think - IMO - people make too much of an issue on what their ohms are reading. It's all about the flavor first, vapor second. Just wrap the wire, check for shorts - if ok, then vape it.

I thought I had graduated from coil construction noobiness but nope. Really bad DID day yesterday as I just could not get a good wick happening. Hotspots, shorts and foul language galore. I finally got a good one going after massive torching...I know, too much destroys the wick but 'overtorching' seemed to cure the short problem for me. Then I could not get any vapour. Flavour ok but next to no vapour. I discovered that the air hole was in the complete opposite position of where it's supposed to be! Having already satisfied myself in the early days that the hole aligned perfectly with the wick, I never thought to ever check this again.

Don't know the cause of this ...perhaps my hamfisted screwing of the topcap ruined a thread but the top cap actually screws in now in 2 positions. The proper one and in the complete opposite position. I have to be fairly deliberate now to start the threading in a certain position to align the hole properly. After that was accomplished it is DID heaven for me once again.

So if suddenly you're getting less vapour than what your used to this might be worth double checking. In my case the air hole migrated from it's proper positioning despite initially being aligned perfectly.

One technique I used this time to good advantage was coiling the wick off the DID, dropping some juice right on the coils, burning with a lighter and repeated several times. This seemed to mimick the cigarette paper trick by building up some layers between the wick and coil to further avoid shorts.

Dspin why post 6 messages one after another? why not just one?

Because he is probably replying to posts as he is reading the thread. So after he replies to one post he continues reading to then find another post to reply to. It does not sound that strange to me at all.

;-)

It's a custom made mod by my buddy switcher here on ECF. I wanted something for the DID that could hold a 26700 E-Moli cell plus a kick and all mechanical. Boy did he deliver and I think it looks sweet with the DID and works great!! I think he called it The Staff I call it The ... KICKER!!! LOL
Nice mod!!!

He's a happy DIDer now, and loves the product, all is finally well. He's even going to go back and get a regular sized DID. This one he had problems with was his first ever genesis and it was the Mini.
I thougt at first it was a carto nut trying to disgrace anything non-carto, but I held on to the slightest of hope that it was indeed a total newbie with outstanding discooridination, and thankfully the hope paid off. He is doing okay for today at least.
I'll PM you both the thread. It's a "beginners" forum....

putting on my best Jamie Lee Curtis voice.... "It's okay, Harry!,, I got this!!!"
