So Calif
You're gonna get a lot of suggestions...

My suggestion is to start with a 3.7V eGo system with either eMDCCs (eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizers) or Stardust clearomizers and wean yourself off 'bakky. Then, if you're still enjoying vaping, look for a VV (Variable Voltage) PV (Personal Vaporizer) within your price range.

Good luck!

I also agree with Iffy, you'll get a lot of different opinions on what is the best starter kit. My 2 cents, you can't got wrong with an Ego-C, the batteries last a long time, with the 510 connector there are countless tanks, cartomizers, clearomizers, etc. They can get you off cigs, after 50yrs of a 2-3 PaD habbit I was completely off in 3wks.

Right so Ive done some research, which still leaves my head spinning but I think I know some what the direction I want to head in, for what I want.

1) I don't want to constantly drip in liquid. I want something that has enough liquid in it to last all day. Does that mean I want a cartomizer, not an atomizer?

2) I don't want a large unit. It does not have to be a exact cig feel, small and slim, Ive found with the blu.cig I kinda hold it down like a tank anyway. I just don't want a giant hooka thing.

3) Battery has to at least last a day so I am recharging a minimum of nightly, longer would be nice, but a routine of nightly works for me.

So does that about sum up the criteria? Ive got:
- Cartomizer/atomizer section
- Size
- Battery

Aside from liquid is that what I need to look at?

Thanks again to all the replying people, you all have been very kind. I will be recommending this site to friends who are considering going to e-cigs like me. Currently I have a wife, my parents, and both my brothers that smoke real cigs, I want them to go this route once I find something that works well to pass along to them.

I would go kgo/riva 1100 mah (3.7v) over the ego (3.4v) for the batt's.

Vision clearomizer or DCT (dual coil tank) cartomizer at 1.5 or 1.7 ohm x2, I prefer the DCT at 1.5ohm. These will hold more juice than a caromizer or clearomizer on their own.

This set-up would be about the size of a standard Sharpie. HTH and good luck

Edit: I guess I 2nd djwyman. Also add a couple drip tips.

Hi Boda,

Welcome to vaping! You'll find a great deal of info and support here at ECF that will assist you on your vaping journey.

I have to agree with others who have recommended skipping the cig style gear and go for something like a KGO to start with.

Since I'm in the western suburbs of Chicago (near Naperville), I would be happy to meet you at a Starbucks somewhere with an outdoor patio and you could try out some different PVs. I have a cig style 808, a cigar size 808, a KGO and a variable voltage Lavatube. Just send me a PM if you would like to try them out.

I'm a grandma, smoked 1 1/2 packs a day for 40 years and have been vaping since December. I was surprised to find that I didn't want to buy any more cigs after vaping for only a few days.

Best wishes to you! :)

Appreciate the offer but that is a bit of a drive from where I am at. I think spending some time on the forums here and getting advice from the great people here will do the job.

Ok so I been watching some of grimgreens videos, helpful, but still confusing.

Can someone explain how a tank set up works? Is it cartomizer then tank then battery?

Ive got that you have a battery in the front (opposite of mouth end). Kgo or Ego seems to be the best from what I'm hearing, will last all day and charge at night. Or I could go with something bigger that I could charge once a week, which I might be fine with.

Also whats with button, do you press then smoke, unlike the disposables where you just smoke it?

Then you have the Atmoizer + Cartridge or Cartomizer. Cartomizer sounds like what I want. No cartridges, no dripping juice in every 10 puffs. I could put in juice at night when I charge before bed and then be good to go for the day, is that right? How many drops do I put in

Then we get into single or dual coil cartomizers, dual sounds better, I'm hearing smoktech is the way to go? Whats the shelf life of these things?

Sorry lots of questions, Again thanks to all for the help.

Hi Bodasafa and welcome to ECF. Congrats on kicking the stinkies to the curb. My recommendations would be:
Kgo
Riva
EPower
They are all true 3.7 volts and have long life batteries. re: batteries 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping. My personal favorite is the Kgo. I also prefer manual batteries because:
- less chance of damage from juice
- manual button puts you in the driver's seat. If you need a stronger/ longer vape you hold down the button longer. Batteries are 1100 mah and, depending on the vaper, last all day. Button will flash when batt needs charging. Full Kit for about $40.00. In regards to tanks you can use cartomizers with a tank or clearomizers (no tank required). I use SmokTech 1.7 XL single coil cartos on a tank and fill up twice per day. Cartos last 2+ weeks. I can lay it down, stand it up, turn it upside down and no leaks. Realize there are great tanks and horrible tanks out there. The bottom line how much the vaper has, or wants, to spend.
Here's a review of the Kgo

Whatever your choice post back here and we'll find a reputable vendor at a decent price and, hopefully, a discount coupon.
Happy Vaping.

Drip Tips help "pretty up" the PV but also prevent hot juice from accidentally spurting into the mouth. Understand the cheap plastic drip tips will not fit snug on the PV and wobble. If this would bother you consider buying a metal drip with the O-ring- about $3.00 extra.

Are drip tips something you would need with a cartomizer?

I'm planning on going all in. Ive tried an e-cig and realized its something I can do, so I'm looking for a kit to buy and then basically just order juice. There are just so many to choose from.

I live near Chicago, IL - USA. Are there any store that sell good brands I could go look at? Or are the best prices online?

http://www.cignot.com/ is in Elmhurst and a genuine Joyetech dealer.

here doctorvapor's videos might be esier to learn from...watch his 101 videos DoctorVapor - YouTube

These seem slightly outdated but the first few 101 videos are great for people first getting into this. Has anyone thought of making a newbie forum with recommended videos to watch (or did I totally miss that already?)

In any event thanks. Back to researching!

So the more I research the more this seems like building a computer (which I have done).

I'll probably be preaching to the choir here since you guys know this stuff, but it helps if I talk it out.

The kits are essentially the battery and charger, the stuff that comes with it is basic that I likely won't use. The Kgo seems like a good bet, medium size, decent reviews, and will hold a charge all day, plus I get 2 so I can just swap one off the charger and put the new one on. Easy stuff.

I'm gonna need to get some cartomizers (which seem cheap enough), I can go pre filled or re-fill them. Still not sure what brand or style (single or dual).

Next I guess I need to decide if I go with a tank or not. Any other opinions are appreciated.

From the first post this morning to now I have learned so much thanks to the very kind community. Please don't hesitate to throw more opinions, videos, and links out while do my research.

Thanks everyone!

Probably not a good idea to A) charge a battery unattended and B) leave a charged battery on the charger. While it may be rare batteries have been known to go up in smoke. If you're not there to hear it fizz and stop it from going up in smoke it will be your house or apartment that goes up.
