Thank you for your response Baditude. :)

In doing some more reading, I did learn that what I have are NOT "cartimizers." I have a separate atomizer and a separate cartridge. Not sure if the cartridge is refillable or not. Don't know if I can post inks here, but I'll try. This is what my cartridges look like: 510 Cartridges

From the description:
Genuine Joye Cartridges, pre-filled or ready-to-fill.

You can refill, repack and even modify those to your heart's content. (Before I moved over to the Nova I tried the PTB mod, replacing the packing with a lipton pyramid teabag. Worked really well..)

They are really easy to refill:

priv8, I am in much the same spot as you - NEW. All of the testimonials sounds great and I'm certainly not challenging anyone's experience.

However, I'm assuming that most of the folks who are still on a vaping/E-cig forum are people who it worked out for. There isn't a place to ask folks who are still smoking if they tried vaping and it didn't work.

So I'm trying to be as positive as I can be but also understanding that the group on this or other eCig forums are not a good sample of everyone who has ever tried. But we can still learn since this is a GREAT sample of people it worked for. So that's where I'm focusing.

Good luck. Hope to share a successful journey with you!

i only started vaping on 5th of Jan this year, my intention being to cut down on my 45 year old pack a day habit. previously i had tried most ways of quitting qith no success at all. i started with a cheap ego kit and clearomisers. First day vaping i smoked 2 cigarettes. Day 2 No cigarettes and i haven't touche done since. i wish i could put this down to my amazing willpower but i can't. Vaping for me killed the desire completely.i think having something in my hand and toking and puffing smoke just totally compensated for my smoking. whatever it was it worked for me. good luck to you .

Actually, there's someone in the General e-cig area that posted today about coming back after falling off the vape bandwagon for a year (more maybe?). And several similar stories are here in the New Members area if you browse back a few pages (the most recent one I can think of is the one with 2008 in the thread title).

I'm really new at vaping myself. I understand exactly how you feel. I tried e-cigs when they first came out and they did nothing for me. I tried a disposable one again last December and it still wasn't all that great, but, it got me looking and I found an eGo battery with a clearomizer and different flavors of juice. The difference was amazing. I tried to quit hundreds of times (over 32 years), with little to no success, and vaping changed that for me when I wasn't even trying. I still didn't quit smoking immediately, but I was finally able to quit painlessly for the first time ever.

It is true that vaping might not work for everyone, but I honestly believe that if you are able to find the right combination of gear and flavors it could work for just about anyone; Nothing else ever even helped me very much, and believe me I tried just about everything out there. I'm even sure I wouldn't have been able to completely quit with a 510 cig-a-like, but the eGo 2200 mah battery did work for me. Even if I'd just cut back it would have thrilled me no end, because I was approaching a 3 PAD ($16 a day) habit, and now I spend less than two dollars a day to vape including the cost of the equipment, and I'm buying a lot of equipment .

One thing you really need to know is that using a personal vaporizer (PV) is very different from smoking a cigarette. If you try to 'smoke' a PV you are going to choke on the vapor. I found the most accurate description of how to use a PV is that it's more like sucking (lightly) on a straw and then inhaling the vapor. I also never used to exhale smoke out of my nose, because smoke is nasty, but when you exhale vaper through your nose it can actually enhance the flavor experience and the nicotine uptake from the vapor and can make it even easier to quit smoking.

The members of this forum are wonderful. They all have been very welcoming and helpful to me, and every other new member I've seen. Even if vaping doesn't work out for you at first, you might want to surf around the various topics on here because there are a lot of tips and tricks that might make it work out for you in the end.

I hope that you find your vaping experience to be as good as mine has been and that it does help you quit. Good Luck! :)

Nose aside, that is how I learned to smoke cigs. I actually started using my PV the other way (straight to lungs) because it "isn't used like a cig".. Figured out pretty quick that going back to my old ways was better.

The other thing is to take your time, in more ways than one. A drag is slower than a cig - if you aim for 6-8 seconds to fill your mouth you'll be doing pretty well (especially with the cigalike batteries) cuz the tiny little heater needs time to heat the juice. And if you take your time trying gear, flavors, etc it'll be totally worth it in the end.

(Or do what I did and just buy new upgrades every 3 days until you find what you like.. but thats proving very expensive. :)) FWIW if you periodically work the math on how much you didn't spend on cigs, it makes it easier to justify spending money on upgrades/replacements. The first time you look at something and think "that might suit me better than what I've got.. and I already saved enough money for it" is awesome :)

Sorry if I sounded negative in my previous post. That wasn't my intent but reading my post I see how it could be read that way.

I was trying to make the second point. That while this might not be the sample of everyone who has ever vaped, it is a group of folks who have successfully transitioned from analogs to vapors. And that's the group we can learn the most from.

Hi Steve I haven't read any of the posts you've gotten just your original one. Here is my story I was a pack and a half to two pack a day smoker for at least 25 years. I started having real issues when FDA approved the fire proof bands in cigarettes. I wanted to quit before that tho and tried many times but failed miserably. At one point I was down to 8 cigs a day roll your owns and I thought I bade it beat. Alas it was not to be. I had tried a cigalike ecig but found it lacking then I got a starter kit from RubberCityVapers it consisted of a 900mah pass through ego battery and clearomizer and 18mg tobacco flavored e liquid. From the moment I fired that baby up I became tobacco free. It's been almost a year now. Within a week of switching my smokers hack was gone I was breathing easier and my sleep was not being interrupted by coughing fits. My sense,of smell has returned,(not always a good thing :D) and my taste buds are thanking me daily. I'm betting tons of people have recommended the provari and any number of atomizers. I say this try out a simple but effective set up like I started with depending on how much you smoke tabacco based units get either 18mg or 24mg liquid. Vape on that and sppee if vapping is going to work for you first. If it does for what it dud for me then by all means get a solid set up like the provari there are many top notch pvs out there.

It worked for me. Not to say that it would work for everyone. I started with a lava tube (now trying to get a genesis system), and feel that the bigger investment made me be more serious about switching. I started on 18mg and found that I was getting more nicotine, this was a good thing at first. I waited several months before lowering my nicotine dose. I also found that going with a flavor that was not tobacco related, thus distancing the association between nicotine addiction and tobacco. I wish you luck luck. I still have half a pack of smokes in my car, from the day I switched. They are there because it is a choice I make everyday.

I smoked analogs and vaped the first month and realized that the only way I could quit smoking was to just completely stop the analogs and go strictly vape. You may want to find you some tobacco flavors to get you off the analogs, but as I have seen, most people switch to fruity stuff after a couple weeks. At least thats my experience. After about a week I was like why the heck would I want anything that taste like a cig!?!

I agree with the above statement. I still smoke an analog when I want to. I went from 3+ pad's to 8-10 analogs a day. For me that is a mile stone. No one will tell you that you can never smoke an analog again once you start vaping. If you feel you need one then do it and get it over. And by the way. Yea they really do taste like an ashtray. Read my sig and you might understand. I hope.

Steve...welcome! I am relatively new to this forum, but the people here have been gracious, insightful and informative. The first thing I would recommend is read, read and read! There is a TON of information, and a lot of terminology, that will educate you in making sound and wise purchases.

I, too, followed a rather common path. Decided to quit cold-turkey...right?! Tried the gum...made me puke. Tried the patch, but the cravings never went away...plus the oral fixation thing (I know, you all just chuckled!).

E-cigarettes satisfy my nicotine cravings and keep me from going through the nervousness and irritability that abstinence brings. Plus, I discovered this vast world of creative and talented people who make delicious tasting juices and well-crafted delivery devices and accessories.

My advice, get yourself a Joyetech 510 battery or something similar. Maybe a kit with some pre-filled cartomizers. I quickly learned that while these are great for the road, PV's like the Provari you mention, really satisfy at home. And that's a HUGE plus, especially during the winter! I can vape right here on my couch while watching the tube!

Best of luck, and never be shy to ask a question!

When I started I started with a kr808. Within a week I quit smoking and within three the batteries failed to hold a charge longer than 2 hours a battery. From there I lapsed for a couple of months; cheap models tarnished my outlook; however, I did lots of research before giving it another try instead using an ego with xl cartomizers. This time around 2 months in and just bought an zmax. I've been smoke free for over 3 weeks, and I often wish I would have started off with the ego or vv mod and done my homework because if I would have I wouldn't have spent 600 on the garbage i bought before.

yes here you can find mostly the successful ones. but there certainly is a failure percentage. and in my experience is somewhat high. i quit smoking after my first ecig and thats it. but i didn't start alone. there were 10 of my friends who also started vaping around the same time as i did. only 3 of them are still vaping, 7 others got back to smoking. reasons, all kinds. 1.5 years ago the devices were flawed. leakage, bad burning taste and other inconsistencies.

another dumb dumb reason. a newspaper article titled " E-CIGS ARE VERY DANGEROUS TO HEALTH". but if you read it, you would find absolutely nothing about the danger and i really mean nothing. but the title is what people remember though and is a very sad thing.
why do this people lie so blatantly? i truly don't understand. i mean money ofc but doesn't the journalist has ppl smoking in his family. short sighted dumb people
