I was really sick. I had always smoked with any kind of illness before, with no reduction at all, but I finally had a bronchitis/sinus/walking pneumonia combo that made it impossible for me to take even one drag. I was sick for weeks, even with antibiotics. I bought nicotine lozenges and was a pretty miserable person until my SO came home from work one night with a disposable e-cig. I used it in conjunction with the lozenges and immediately ordered a kit. About a week later, I was feeling better. I lit up a cigarette. It had been at least a week or more since my last attempt to smoke, and the flavor was shockingly bad. At that point, I decided it was extremely foolish to go back to cigarettes when I had satisfying substitutes, even though it was never my intention to quit. That illness was a blessing in disguise.

I think one of the things that stop many existing smokers starting vaping and giving up normal cigarettes, is lack of information - they perhaps don't realise you can get the nicotine hit from e-cigs. Also, it is quite confusing when you come to buy an e-cig kit, etc, to start with. What spares do you need, what your various options are, etc with cartomizers, atomizers, automatic cigs, manual batteries. I had to read up on it for a whole weekend to even begin to understand it all.
Good luck with it.

Congrats to you and everyone else who's quit! To me, vaping is a game-changer. Nay, a life-changer! I totally agree on the information issue. I feel VERY fortunate to have stumbled across ECF, but having a B&M locally where I can go and talk face-to-face with someone knowlegeable has been important, too.

I just tried them randomly, it was something new, and I like electronic toys. I had no interest whatsoever in quitting and made no effort whatsoever to switch - once I realized that they actually work, I tried switching purely as an experiment. I guess it worked.

I started vaping because, #1 I got tired of smelling like an ashtray, I started smoking when i was 13 and i'm about to turn 45, So I finally decided that i really want to be around when my 3 daughters have kids. I really want to be a grandpa!!! What's really funny is, since i have quit the analogs i really have no desire to go back. It's kinda hard to go to my local watering hole and have a drink, not that the smoke bothers me, It's the way i smell when i leave..

#2, My whole family is smoke free and I didn't want to be the outcast anymore. You all know the feeling, Have to go outside by yourself in the cold or rain.. LOL

#3, Since I love to tinker, I'm having a blast building RBA's and making steel wicks for my Vivi's and V-Cores. So it has become some what of a hobby.. That's why i quit.. Thanks for listening and Happy Vaping!!!

Just wanted to know why you started vaping (is this the correct term?)

For me, I have been smoking for more than 10 year. Was able to stop for a year at most, sometimes a few months then back to the bad habit of smoking. I noticed that every time I tried to stop and returned to smoking, I smoked more than when I stopped.

Then I heard of electronic cigarette, I did not bother learning what this was at first. I started to quit smoking again, few weeks past, then months, then I had the urge again to smoke (from stress, or from seeing my friends smoking). This is when I decided to get my first electronic cigarette. More than three months have already past and I have not been smoking (plus the few months before I started vaping) and I don't think I will go back... ever. Taste better, smells better, feel better.... cant think of anything negative to say.

So, what is you story? :2cool:

I was curious about them mostly because when my kids come to visit, and grand kids I need something that won't irritate or harm them as it is sooo hard not to smoke, plus I always smoked in the house unless had visitors then going out in 10 below zero weather was NOT pretty. Anyway finally tried the Blucig disposable that had been on my desk for two weeks. I liked it.......I haven't had one smoke since then, have the Blucig kit, and Ego kit, and the Walmart Fin kit.......I honestly had no idea they would make me quit smoking so it is wonderful! I didn't know much about them and one of the last ads I saw said 0 nicotine so I thought none of them had nicotine until later LOL........

Just wanted to have some control over where I ingested my nicotine in public places. It turns out that the moment I started vapourizing, I just quit smoking that day. Had one just before going to bed that night after using my T2 all day and I couldn't finish it, gagged a bit, almost threw up, then threw up a little in my mouth, swallowed it as punishment for smoking again, and have never even thought about one since end of Feb 2013. Seriously, that taste of puke instantly comes to mind when I think about smoking now. I'm not an anti smoker at all. I totally understand smokers 'cuz I was just recently one but every smoker I talk to for about 5 minutes goes off searching out their first vapourizer. I didn't even realize I was going to quit smoking. It just happened kind of suddenly. I then threw away my ashtrays, cigarette boxes etc... Apartment smells better, I smell better, more money and I'm happier...let's just not talk about the terrible amount of gas I experienced. That was some crazy stuff.

I tried e-cigs as a stab at quitting smoking. I smoked 43 years...embarrassingly heavy (2-3 PAD). I'd tried a few methods...gum, patch, cold turkey, even acupuncture... nothing worked, and every time I tried to quit, I'd not only go back to smoking, but also smoking more! Main motivation was my concern over my failing health and feeling bad that my children (now grown) were so worried about me. So I figured the e-cigs were worth a shot.

They worked. Haven't had a cigarette since my first vape. That was Sept. 2011.

Your story is much like mine. I always had a cig going it seems for 50 years! Quit once for six weeks on the patch but was extremely miserable. I ate straws I didn't chew on them or suck on them l Two weeks now no smokes since discovering how wonderful Vaping is. Congratulations on your time in!!

I've been a cigarette smoker for almost half my life and never had the urge to quit. Until the urge to try out something new came about - the electronic cigarette.
Was skeptical at first since I don't quite fancy the idea of sucking on a battery, but after doing some informed readings, I was the wiser. Figured what the heck, couldn't be worse than those substances found in regular cigarettes now can it. I self proclaim myself a convert, after a month and a half vaping nothing but e-juice.

Been hitting the analog for about 10 years and only recently were my eyes opened to the world of vaping. I never would've thought anything could get me off ciggies so effortlessly and painlessly, yet it has! I still need about 3 analogs a day, though, as vaping is illegal in my country, and i'm hard-pressed to find a secluded place to vape at work. If only vaping was more widely accepted, i'd happily give up the cancer stick. The irony!

A lot of factors contributed to my deciding to start vaping.

For me, the time was right to quit.

I see a lot of vapers super eager to get their friends and family on board but want to remind them that maybe they arent ready yet. Be patient, I guarantee if you continue vaping those same friends and family will come to you first when theyre ready.
