I had posted about solvents to clean the coils; mainly the possibility of using Glacial Acetic Acid which is just plain white vinegar on steroids. I have some in my darkroom and will try with a clogged head. It doesn't affect SS or bronze and is easily dissolved in water. Also non toxic. Maybe a 2~3 day dip will do away with the crud. Will post results.

What has -sometimes- worked for me is dry burning, save when it has burned the coil and not just the crud.

Looks like you can add my name to the list of people with dry hits. My experience sounds like a copy of many here. The first coil I tried was the 1.6 ohm that came in the box. Using Prime 15 from Halo this thing rocked for about the first week and a half. That's when the monster reared its ugly head. I could tell it was a wicking issue from the start. I tried all the holes, even the smallest one, to no avail. I even tried it with the airflow completely shut off. Nothing seemed to work. I changed the head to the 1.8 ohm one and right off the bat it was dry burning. I can unscrew the glass and let the bubbles come up and it will work for a while, but who wants to babysit a tank. I'm a heavy vaper so I want something that will keep up. This seemed to fit the bill, so much that I didn't even care about my Kayfun, when it was working.

So now to the questions at hand. Since it's been almost two weeks since the last post. Has anyone found a fix? Are the heads of better quality than the ones that came in the box? Has anyone just tried dry burning the crap out of the heads? Will using the replacement head make any difference. Jorge, did the super vinegar make any difference?

This thing was amazing when it worked right. I don't want to give up on it, knowing what it is capable of.

I don't think you can burn the crap out of the heads...alone I mean you have the wrapping around the coil that burns also. You'd have to take it apart. Of course, once you do that, might as well try to rebuild it. I know that RIP dude who makes videos has a 'how to' rebuild Nautilus heads. But, it's the stuffing you have to watch out for, I believe.

For the sake of experiment, I rebuilt the 1.8 ohm head. I used 28 ga. 8 wraps that came out at 1.5 ohms with cotton. The vapor and throat hit are pretty good. The flavor however is lacking just a bit. I'm using the biggest air hole and I will say not bad so far. I'll try the other holes as I go along.

Even with this working ok, it chaps my .... that I need to do this for a clearomizer. This should be something that I just fill and vape. If I wanted to build to get a good vape, I have RDA's for that. If anyone has any ideas to make this thing work without all the work, I'm all ears.

I am having the same issues. If I blow into it since the bottom is sealed I see the bubbles come from the coil. I just don't think I should have to do that every 3 pulls. The tank it's self is awesome. Hopefully there are some fixes soon for the wicking.

I've been disappointed with it too. It vapes great, but it goes dry real quick. I am on my 3rd coil; first from replacement pack. It starts off strong but then fades. The good thing is that I have never had a problem with either this or the Aspire BDC for flooding. The extra packing material in the coils seems to be a better design over the Kanger wicks. But I cannot burn it too hot. I find that 1.8 coils like to be in the mid 3 range with the 1.6 working better at 3.1 to 3.3. Most anything over 4 is too much.

Also, while I like the airflow control (which makes a heap of difference on Kanger Pro Tank II), I don't have infinite adjustment. Sometimes I have to cover the lowest hole flow setting to get it to wick properly.

I think the design is superior. For me, I would rather deal with dry hits (and vapor) then a flooded mouthful of juice. I hope that they continue to work on the execution of the design.

I purchased two Nautilus tanks and they both give weak hits and to top it off they both flood and leak like a siv.I got ...... and took them out of service,cleaned them and let them set for a couple weeks.Today I took one off the shelf and filled it half way-it worked fine and tasted great.So then I get a bright idea-I'll fill it up,it must be ok.Needless to say its back to being flooded,leaking out of the air hole,gurgling etc.So now it sits back on the shelf.

Someone made a comment a few pages back about loosing the differential-it make sense because I could feel it let loose when I pulled apart to fill it.I don't understand the leaking through the holes though.I may try changing the coil and see what happens.I so loved this tank when I first got it because of the amount it holds-I didn't get it to run at half full although it seems thats how it works best,half full!

Update*

Changed the head for one of the replacements I bought from Vaporkings and the tank has been working perfectly. Simple fix but can't for the life of me figure out how quality control could possibly allow total junk heads to be installed and shipped with a great product.

You might of had a bogus knock-off head. They are out there, if the heads came in anything but a foil/bubble pack, you probably have a counterfeit.

Been using mine with the stainless steel tank for a few weeks now (heavy use) with no problems at all. Can't really fault it.

For those getting dry hits whats been working for me is to loosen the drip tip nut at the top of the tank maybe an eighth or quarter turn before screwing in the whole thing.
So, back off the dt nut then hold the tank and the nut stable while you screw down your tank.
Works every time for me. It will even flood if you back the nut too far off. It's almost like the depth of the coil is to deep. I wonder if just backing off the coil a thread or two would do it?

i have had my Nauty now for two weeks and have not had much luck with it, bad heads, dry hits, very dissapointed, ive tried all the tricks, setting the head up a little to show the holes more, unscrewing the tank a little to make more air bubbles, tightening, loosening, everything, im currently vaping 5 Pawns Grandmaster and it tasted way better in the store in their cheap little iclear 16 tank than in my Nauty, theres just no flavor, good hit, no flavor, ill taste some flavor from time to time but not to the degree the reviews say this tank put out, i was so hyped to get this tank, ive tried 5 pawns, the o.b., everything, still the muted flavor, im using an Evic also, gone through countless heads, imo this thing sucks, ive been vaping for 4 months now on my Evic with tanks and now im ready for rebuildable tanks

After my last post I ordered two packs of replacement heads, hoping for some improvement. The first two heads started out fine for the first couple of hours, then back to the dry hits. Out of frustration I grabbed my dremel and a small, sharp grinding bit and went to town. I enlarged all the air holes and gave it a go. I've been using that head for several hours and have not had a dry hit yet. I can actually see bubbles coming up now. It's a little early to tell but my fingers are crossed. I'll report back in a couple of days.

As the title says, I'm a new member. Been lurking on the site now for a few years without feeling the need to post, and have been loving vaping now since 2009.

I started with the little Joyetech 510's with the recharging pack and all, made the smart move to the EGO-T (which lasted all of a week, never got any flavor out of any heads). Vision Vivi Nova, Kanger EVOD, mini nova (still going strong!) and my main vape for the last year and a half or so has been the Innokin iClear30 with an eVic. It leaks like a siv and can't be filled to max without leaking, but the taste was always great so I stuck with it. With regular cleaning, I have only used 5 heads in a year and a half with the iClear 30.


Last week, after many great reviews from the Aspire Nautilus thread, as well as PBusardo's review and head to head with the other adjustable airflow tanks, I made the jump the the Aspire Nautilus from ViperVape.com

It was great for the first day... great flavor, amazing draw and throat hit right where I wanted. Then the flavor suddenly disappeared. To remedy I tried the usual cleaning with vodka and dry burning the (not much of it!) burnt juice off... To no avail. Nothing but dry hits. No burning taste either.

I figured maybe the head went out... swapped in the second 1.8ohm head, and immediately after a few vapes it had no flavor what so ever. All day I have been trying to get flavor out of this thing, and no results. I am vaping Copper Creek's House Blend 40/60 pg/vg. I have also tried Viper Vapes' French Vanilla and Black Cherry, both of which are 70/30 pg/vg.. and still no flavor using either head. Viper Vape did not have extra heads in stock or I would have ordered more... but I sincerely doubt the heads are burnt out already after barely being used.

I have attempted to vape at 3.3v/6w, 4v/8.9w, and everywhere in between, and at every air setting.O even bumped it up to 5v/11w just to see if that did it, and nothing. I just can't get any flavor, even on the smallest airhole and trying to suck a golfball through a garden hose if you know what I mean. Have tried all the flavors I have and everything I know to include cleaning, all to no avail. Am I vaping at the wrong settings?

Help! I want to love this new tank, because it just seems like the best vape tank to come out in years.. but I just can't get any flavor. Every hit is dry as a bone.

Take 1 of your fingers and place it over the AFC hole and take a few puffs WITHOUT pressing the firing button, it helps for a few vapes, with mine I found the tank and coils to run best between 3.2-3.4v for flavor on my VV/VW mod and only a 2-3 sec vape on my mech mod. But, both my coils went out in less than 2 weeks after 20-30 ml of juice.

Yeah, almost 2 weeks with constant dry burning, and running hot water over the coils and switching coils back and fourth before finishing the 1st the first 5 ml and never running the tank lower than a 1/4 full, The directions actually say to never run it lower than 1/3 or 1/4 not sure, I stopped using the tank. The coils don't seem to work well at all for me with anything over 60-70% VG.

Very true. It's too bad I bought this specifically for my thicker juices. I wonder if the manufacturer even tested this tank with anything other than 70pg/30vg.

I notice that if I let my tank sit upright for 30 mins or so that the first couple of drags have some flavor so my case does seem to be a wicking issue from what I can tell. Maybe I'll try adding a few drops of water to my juice as I don't have any straight PG. If all else fails I may try what one poster suggested and take off the top wick, that's short of drilling bigger airholes in my coils. Ofc, it's absurd to have to resort to such things for such a highly praised and expensive tank.

I think I have figured out an easy way to fix these coils, I have tried everything from filling halfway to drilling holes etc..then I tried adding some cotton- just take a very small piece of cotton ( I dont have organic so I just used a cotton ball tastes fine to me until I can get some) and bury it down in the coil. The first one I did was too big and it flooded and clogged the air hole then I tried again with a smaller piece and it worked awesome, you may have to play with it to make sure you arent plugging the air intake and by using the right amount of cotton. It only takes a very small amount maybe 1/4 of a wick?, and shove it between coils on either side. Im on day 2 with no burnt taste, I even fixed a few coils I gave up on....

Thx a lot for posting both your tip and the replacement notice. Can you tell me which thread you found that notice in?

I wonder if these new coils will work for both low vg and high vg juices. It seems that the airflow adjustment just compensates for the draw and doesn't affect wicking performance in any significant way. To wit, I wonder if having 2 different coils, one for low vg and one for high vg juices would be a necessary or optimal solution. Just thinking out loud but I'll try the replacement coils they provide and see.

I bought a Nautilas after reading all the hype. It gave me nothing but trouble.. It either dry hit or flooded and had a muted taste. I love the looks and design but the performance was lacking. This was the last straw for clearomizers for me. I upgraded to a Kayfun and haven't looked back.

If you are dead set on using a clearo, the two best I ever tried were the Kanger aerotank and the AnyVape Davide that used the Kanger Protank heads. Out of the two, I'd give the Davide a serious look. The coil sizzles and pops when you hit it but I get lots of vapor and really good taste.
