I want to update on my previous posts above.

I ordered a 5-pack of coil heads last week and after installing the first one, my tank has been going great for the last 3 days. So, I'm assuming that it was the coil heads that came with it that were junk. I read that somewhere on this forum that the stock heads usually aren't up to snuff.

I just got lucky because both my Nautilus and Aerotank came with good coils, and I couldn't be more impressed with both.

I think the answer to the coil head problem is to build our own coils. After all, if these people can do it, we can too.

I've yet to rebuild my first coil, but I'm looking forward to learning, so I can know these great devices can work well forever.

Since so many are getting bad coils, and they're not cheap, I'd like to see the retailers contact their buyers and give them a couple of weeks to send them back and get a refund from these retailers, who should be able to recoup their loss from the manufacturers.

Edit: Okay, I was told that no one can be held responsible for the bad coils. They're just not warrantied. But the retailers should let the makers know how dissatisfied the customers are and we should too if someone can tell us how.

Not true at all. I contacted Aspire and got a person named Kiki. After a few back and forths, and resistance from Kiki, I received an okay from the Quality Manager to ship me 3 boxes of new coils. I received them from a Texas vendor who, I presume, was reimbursed by Aspire.

Don't take no for an answer. We paid good money for those defective coils. Demand satisfaction. It worked for me.

My pleasure.

If you look inside the coil, you'll see some white fabric above the actual wire wrapped wick and lining the inside of the metal housing. It's a piece of fabric. It's the first thing you see when you look into the coil. It's white and it lines the inside of the metal housing.

Gently remove it with a thick needle or dental tool. Kind of ease it out. If the coils are fairly new, you won't have to do a "dry burn".

Before you put the unit back together, prime the coil with a few drops of e-liquid. Put 2-3 drops directly inside the coil on top of the wire-wrapped wick.

Reassemble the tank, fill it up, and you're good to go.

The difference it makes is almost not to be believed. Clouds of vapor and the taste is out of this world.

Hopes this helps.

Really, what have you got to lose.:D

I've been having the WORST time getting these heads to last more than a day. Just TERRIBLE burnt, dry shuddering awfulness. Went and got the wife's sewing kit, stole a needle and extracted the sheath in question on a new head...

The flavor is very strong but there's not as much vapor production and it's gurgling like a crazy person.

Where are people buying the good heads?

You probably flooded the coil. Here's what will help: Unscrew the tank from the battery. Then unscrew the bottom part of the tank that holds the coil. Remove the coil and gently dab it on the inside with a paper towel to remove the excess liquid. Also use a paper towel to clean out the bottom tank part that holds the coil.

Put it all back together including the drip tip.

Hold the tank upside down for a few seconds to get the vacuum flow that's needed for this coil.

Screw the tank back on the battery. Set the airflow hole to the smallest hole and then go passed it. Gently vape, no battery power to get the coil flowing. Then move it to the smallest hole and vape. Keep moving the airflow until you get to your sweet spot.

If you're still getting dry hits, remove the drip tip and place 1 or 2 drops directly through the center tube and onto the coil.

IMO, it doesn't matter where you buy your coils. I think the problem is in the design.

Unfortunately, the Nautilus is one of those tanks you have to fiddle with. When they don't work, you want to tear your hair out. When they do work, they're very good.

I find I get more vapor production and a much stronger flavor.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

***Edited to Add***

I use a 30PG/70VG for my ADV. I've also used 100%VG and a 50PG/VG mix and you still have to fiddle with the Nautilus.

Yes, I know it's a pain in the ***. But I see it as I've already invested the money. I might as well try to make them work.

Good luck.

What thanswr said.

I'm fairly new at e-cig mods and tanks. I have the Nautilus and recently bought the Kanger Aerotank Mini. Both are different for varying reasons.

Anyway, what I do is fill the Nautilus with 3, 4 or 5 ml's of juice and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I do like thanswr said, except I use battery power (on my Evic), but go with short quick puffs. Then I let it sit for a few again. Also, I keep my voltage at 3.0 or 3.1 on my Evic. After I get it going with good vapor, I turn it up to about 3.4 or 3.5.

Well, now that I've had time to deal with these news coils, my overall opinion of the Aspire Nautilus is that it is indeed junk. My new heads are fine. This tank has major issues with flooding. I've been reading on here (and elsewhere) about how to deal with this issue.... to no avail. My Aerotank Mini doesn't have this problem. I also have an iClear X.I. that has literally had no issues at all within the last week.

How can such a highly touted tank (Nautilus) be such garbage? Using less expensive tanks (and less room for juice) has been a bright spot for me.

I have a Kanger Giant on the way. Looking forward to trying that one.

For what it's worth the Nautilus tank seems to give people problems when they over tighten the bottom of the tank. I did this once and got the dry hits you speak of. Once I got used to screwing the bottom on properly I have had no issues with flooding or dry hits. The key is to tighten it just enough to make a seal an no more. Less is more when it comes to tightening the bottom.

I had the same burnt/dry taste as almost everybody after 4 or 5 drags. New coil head or not. I tried to tread the base of the tank just snug and I removed the coton/fabric lining inside the coil head with tweezers and VOILÀ! No more burnt or dry taste. No flood at all. Seems to work perfectly now. I've been vaping this baby at 10 watts for some hours, I shook my mod on all angles with the tank on it like crazy and not a drop of eliquid leaked from anywhere. I chain vaped like I almost got a headache and the taste is incredible. That's OMG! What a taste now! Damn! That's a good thing I found those tips, I was just to the point of throwing this tank out the window. What a mistake it would have been. Now I won't have to buy those new mini Nautilus coil heads and I can keep my remaining 1.8 ohm coil heads.

After the fabric is removed, there are four vertical (if the head is upright) pieces that appear to be plastic, and appear to be lined up with the wicking holes. Did you leave these in place?

WORKED!! so far...

I just removed that little piece of fabric and immediately tasted a difference! Taste!! I think that fabric is around the coil to 'protect' it but, it also can burn a little. It's very possible the burnt were in fact, the little piece!!
Disclaimer: I am writing this right after I removed the fabric and have only taken a few hits out of two of my tanks. I have 8 tanks.

I would LEAVE the woven sleeve in place

So I have had my nautilus for about 2 weeks now. It took maybe 4-5 days before I started getting the burnt taste.

I changed the coil out with one from the local shop I purchased the tank from. And it lasted a few days before the dreaded burnt-ness came back.

I used my mpt3 for the rest of that week. Today I picked it up and replaced the coil with the 1.8ohm from the box. It worked good for a few hours but still would get a bad taste every couple of vapes. while reading thru this thread I tried a few different things.

Using a 80pg 20vg mix from mt baker

I made sure that I did not over tighten the bottom threads. This helped I could see more bubbles floating up.

I also took the old 1.6ohm coil I had and rinsed it under water and let it sit for a few hours. I then removed the piece of fabric from around the coils.

So far so good taste is really coming thru now. At first I flooded it by dripping 2 drops down to the coil. Cleared that out and yea it was hitting pretty good. Nice flavor and vapor.

As said by someone else here I have already spent the money on this tank and would love to make it work consistently.

Hopefully this is the answer. I will find out tomorrow while at work if it holds up to my daily vaping.

Sigh, I really liked the look (not from start) of the tank - it grows on me. And I especially loved the capacity of this tank. It's holds more than Aerotank Mega! However, I've tried everything that people suggested here. It would perform better for a while, but 3 days top. Then, no matter what I try, it's either gurgling or mute taste, and if I'm lazy enough to continue vaping, it becomes dry hits... This is very unacceptable especially when I can vape a single count of any Kanger type coil head for a month if the juice is light colored. For the colorless juice, it can go as far as 1-1/2 month. This is the kind of reliability I want out of these tanks, and also the reason why I choose to pay premium and buy a pre-made coil head. If I had time to spend hours to figure out how to "correct" a Aspire coil, I might as well just pull out the Russian 91 and build it myself.

I guess I have to admit that I love the look of the tank. They look like old radio or amp tubes. Very cool.
But I'm done with them. I'm waiting on a Aerotank Mega and a pack of heads. Shame on Aspire. Over a
year's worth of real, valid complaints and nothing. As if China listens! HAHAHA! I've purchase quite a few RBA's but they sit. I just could never get the hang of building coils.
Here they sit most, never used! :(

The 'Burgh, PA.
Got an Aspire Nautilus on a Deal of the Day. Disappointed (couldn't compare with my CartoTanks) => put it in my "back-up" drawer.

Just ran across this GrimmGreen video about the Aspire Nautilus Mini:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H8iZlE0xvA&feature=youtu.be

He says their Bottom Vertical Coils "feel like a CartoTank" and "have replaced his Kayfun" for daily use.

And...the BVC's are backwards compatible with the original Nautilus.

Figure that I gotta' try them in my Nautilus:
