Well, I see two psychological problems..one, is his age, and the second is he's been smoking for 30+ years. that puts him in the 50+ range.

Am I the only one who feels like smacking this young man upside the head? I know you mean well, but 50 is the new 40 and you'll be here soon enough.

If you only knew!

One of these fine days I'll hobble on over to the Front Porch and introduce myself. Haven't done that yet. And if you have a "hot tub" on the porch that would even be better!;)

Please do haul your wrinkled old .... over to the porch when your walker feels up to it. We do have a rockin' hot tub on it, just as soon as Iffy gets it installed. Happening place.

  Ummmm. Yeah, nevermind.

Agree the Spinner is a good choice for him to get used to vaping. He can then decide where he wants to go after that.

mattiem, please pass the cookies if you can muster the strength. :D

u haz beated me.

I'll pass you some sweet tea in a minute, I'm having a hard time seeing without my glasses...and a fan.

Hey ECF,

Been vaping for about a year and now my dad wants to get back into it after smoking for 30+ years. Problem is I don't really know what to get him. Looking more for tube-ish type mods that aren't going to break the bank (was thinking istick but seems to have a fair amount of issues lately). Looking for user friendly vv or VW for him. He's not really mechanically inclined so I was thinking a simple to use mod and a nautilus mini setup to get him started on. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Vape on!

Hi Mikey!

Question #1--does your dad want to vape? Has he tried your gear? Had he expressed any interest? If he doesn't, maybe you should have a little talk with him before you go shopping. Can you take your dad to a B&M and let him play with different devices? That would be ideal, really. Vaping is hard at first even if you choose your own hardware.

A few random thoughts. Eleaf iStick is not a good device for a beginner, and I would never recommend it as a primary device--too many QC problems and it's widely inaccurate. It's a fun toy for those who own other mods they can depend on. I own it and I like it, but I don't expect it to last long. And I know all about Eleaf volts.

I also can't recommend Aspire Nautilus (it has a chromed brass chimney--not stainless steel, as advertised, and the BVC coils are stuffed with rather questionable fiberglass/ceramic non-biodegradable material that has never been tested for safety or used by any other manufacturer. But that's just me--other love the Nautilus and are not concerned. Before you buy it, I suggest you read this thread.

I think that either a vv eGo-style battery or an MVP2 (if your dad doesn't mind the box shape) would be nice and easy to use. Add a couple of simple Kanger tanks--ProTank 2 (with an added AFC valve) or an Aerotank or Emow tank. They are reliable--but there is a learning curve and your dad will need some guidance at the beginning.

Good luck!

Thank you for the post Birdy, I didn't know that about the BVCs; although, it's not an important point for me, I wasn't that impressed with the Nautilus and rarely use it.

Very much so. I don't own a Davide--for some reason--so I always forget to mention it...

I wonder if the replacement Nautilus tanks chimneys are also brass. I just got one of the cage/nest ones, but I can't tell if the chimney is different.

Sorry again for the hijack OP.

I think the Hypertank should be recommended more often, I've had good results with them. Also the charming (I think) Tumbler tank, although it's polycarb, so can't be used with tank cracking juices.

But that Hypertank is big, aint't it?

Tumbler tank? Lemme look. BRB :)

No idea. But since the friendly folks from Aspire told us that it was difficult to make a ss chimney, I don't think it would be any easier to make one for the shells. :D Just applying logic 101 here.

Thank you all for the replies (and free entertainment with the back and forth, ha)! He does want to quit smoking and get back on vaping so I have a feeling that he will stick with it. He wants something with a looser draw (in comparison to a cigarette) so that's why I was leaning towards the nautilus line with the BVC coils, as I have heard lots of good things about them. He also likes the size of the mods that I usually take when I make the trip out there to see him (IPV2 and Stingray x clone always in 18650 mode as I like to sub-ohm). Obviously I am not going to toss him a mech and RBA or RDA right out the gate and I haven't checked out his local B&Ms yet so I can't speak about what they can offer and if they would be helpful at all. I have a feeling that it would be best to just take him shopping at a local shop and see what he likes, rather than surprise him on Christmas day with something that he doesn't like. Only problem is that I may walk out buying more stuff for myself on top of his new setup haha.

I used to think so, lol. It holds 5ml, which is the same as a regular Nautilus. I just don't fill it up all the way. I wish they made a mini one. The Tumbler worked quite nicely, but has a weird connection. It's eGo threaded, but has a long skirt, so it wouldn't work on my Vamo or Bobo without an adaptor. It was brilliant on an eGo style though and I PIF'd it to a friend.

Do I see a certain pattern here? ;)
