Has anyone had a problem with the Invader not making contact with a battery? I'm using LG "HE2", flat tops, and one or two wouldn't power the Invader on until I did a little "pry work" on the top battery contact and raised it up just a tad. It drove me nuts when I tried to use it the first time and it wouldn't power on, thought I had a dud, then tried another battery just to check and it worked fine.

I don't have one of these mods but am considering buying one. I wonder if the issue you describe above is why people are having problems with waking the device up/losing settings, battery contact is being lost. Maybe button tops would work better with this thing.

That is sure a possibility, but I only have high discharge flat tops around so a minor "adjustment" did the trick. It certainly could be the source of lost settings with a battery installed and not making good, low current, contact to maintain the memory. I am assuming that there is a quiescent current drawn to maintain settings as well as a capacitor for short duration power outages, but have no real knowledge that is actually the case. A marginal contact will conduct enough to maintain the screen and, when full power is applied, sort of "clear" for a while. I see that phenomenon with higher resistance coils in my CE3s all the time. They can read four ohms, or even higher, until real current hits and clears the connections inside the CE3. It seems reasonable that a similar situation could be going on with the lost settings problem.

Even after dealing with the worst thing about this mod, which is the forgetting of the settings, it does TP really well. I've used it in both the Nautilus with TP coils. and the Kanger sub mini with the rda @.089 nickel. For what it misses out on, it does TP pretty good. I bought it mainly for a TP controlled device that was durable and this is a rock. I can deal with it.

I'm surprised PB gave it a thumbs up after all the negatives he had. Personally, I like the 510 connector although in reality all it does is move the gap to between the 510 ring and mod body.

I ended up having to re-coil and re-wick today. I was playing with Kanthal tanks and my Ni200 build, switching back and forth between them, to see if mine had any "identity" crisis problems. It didn't which seems strange 'cause according to PB's video mine should be a version one based on the packaging. It has forgotten settings a few time, but each time there has been either heavy vibration or a sharp shock involved which leads me further to thinking it's a bad battery connection or a bad connection internally.

My original build was a nominal .13 ohms with 10 wraps of 28 gauge on a 12 gauge needle, wicked with rayon. I tried it at 50 watts, keep in mind this is on an ErlK clone, and burned the heck out of it. It did clear, but I didn't like the flavor at all so I rebuilt it with 10 wraps of 30 gauge Ni200, tempered, around my trusty 12 gauge needle. It came in at about .18 ohms and is wicked with rayon. It's a really nice vape and I really like the Invader.

Right behind you...
Might want to try something bigger than that ~2.0mm coil diameter when using Ni200. Your flavor tricks for Kanthal don't apply the same to Ni200, and getting good juice flow (which is more of a big deal with TC than you might think) is tougher with a coil as tiny as you prefer.

Live a little. Go up to 2.5mm. Go wild, go to 3.0mm. You might like it.

I particularly like the stress tests PB did on the device. It handled shock, water and being run over with his car exceptionally well :D

So the only way to know the version is to contact the vendor and ask what box comes with it?

According to PB, the clamshell with the full cardboard sleeve is the older version while the half cardboard sleeve is the newer version. That seems odd since the Invader is so new to the market.

Incidentally, I've been using the 12 gauge needle to wind coils for all of my tanks even with Kanthal wire. Rayon wick makes them work outstandingly well.

Thanks for that link Paul.

I've never used microcoils. To me they seem, inherently, less efficient since the wire is so close together it can inhibit liquid flow to the wire. Since I use rayon I think that microcoils are, basically, un-needed to achieve a high quality vape.

Dr. F does seem to have a pretty good handle on how to do a real, unbiased, analysis of vaping and is willing to use the same equipment most, or many at least, are currently using rather than a cig-a-like with a carto the FDA seems to be focused on (can we all say "Big Tobacco" together?)

I'm not a metallurgist but I do have to wonder about some of his comments. I feel comfortable with his expertise in chemical analysis but I'm not sure about his expertise in metallurgy. In my mind, pea brain, it would take some very serious heat to disturb, significantly, the molecular bonds in a significant enough way to start emitting toxic byproducts, but I am far from an expert and will rely on people that are experts to determine that.

My battery cap was a little wonky when I first got it, but now after a dozen or so battery changes it as smooth as silk. Just a little wear-in needed.

The 510 connector is nice and to maintain water resistance it is kind of needed. All it really does, though, is move the gap from between the atomizer and connector to between the mod body and the connector. Still looks fine to me and is quite functional.

I did appreciate the scope testing though.

@awsum140 I take it the scope readings were good? If so, that's great, because this is the first and quite possibly only time that Busardo will scope a ChiDNA40.

If this read well we can be pretty confident that all the others with the same Rayn board will as well.

(I suppose there's some chance he'll do the Mini VF as that's an original design - well, sort of, if one doesn't think about the 'VF' part too much! But I'm seeing no sign of that being sold outside China as yet.)
