I know there's already a thread (and a video) about re-stuffing but after HEAPS of requests, I did a new recording showing an up-close and detailed process for re-stuffing 401 carts.

The process addresses the fraying and fuzzy bits as well as how to fluff the batting before rolling it (for best effect), how to best get it into the inner cartridge, refilling the cartridge with liquid and topping it off and the easiest way to get the cartridge back in to the mouthpiece as well as how I react when someone gets knocked out during the fights.

I hope this will help to answer the numerous questions I've gotten on the subject.

Here's the video!

Very nice video - now I need to find a UK source for the polyester batting!

Good job:thumbs:
Over at the TW forum, a few folk are finding this stuff does the job quite nicely: Fluval 2 Filter Plus Polyester Pads 4 Pack Online Pet Shop UK

I got to get me some of that. I could cry at the thought of all the carts I've binned just 'cos the filling went crappy!

Nice video btw, I do that thing with screwed up kitchen roll cleaning out the cart!

I received a delivery of thse yesterday, saw this post and thought I'd give it a go.

There are 4 pads in a box of approx 3" x 2.5" and 1/2 " in thickness. I cut of half thickness of a cart sized piece and fluffed out the fibre, refulled the cart, topped off and it is vaping very well.

I have found that a lot of carts do not have enough filling and this causes leaking into the mouth; however, being able to cut the filling to your preference, it can take a little more liquid and I have not yet got a mouthful of fluid.

So far so good; I'll keep an eye on how long it lasts before becoming unusable but this looks like it's going to work and it should last a long time for a good price.

Very nice video Terraphon, thank you.

RSNG--that one type. I tried this stuff and in my opinion it is way to dense to wick--the polyester batting that is used here is at Walmart. Can be found in any fabric stores as well (JoAnne's etc.) and is much less dense (comes in a big bag called polyfill--20oz) and is in fact in my as well as many others opinion what the manufactures use as cores and wicks much better--Hope that helps--Sun:)

You're becoming the video king, keep em coming :)

Does replacing the really coarse wick fiber with the thin wispy stuff affect the performance at all?

Does it empty better or worse?

RJG--the more dense the batting--the less it will wick as it holds the e-liquid and will not let it flow to the atomizer wick. That is why a wispy core is much better---Hope that helps--Sun:)

Thanks for the tip... I haven't seen mentioned, what section would it be found in at Walmart?

RSN--that Walmart is so damn big you could get lost in there lol--There is a fabric section in there that I did not even know was there till about 5 months ago when I went looking for this stuff. You willl find it right there on the shelf--big bags of it called Poly-fill traditional batting" and costs about 7 dollars--Hope that helps--Sun:)

hmm - not really ;-)

I agree stuffing more into the cart is very bad, it doesn't release fluid well at all like that, I think that's what you are referring to "density" right?

Speaking strictly of the diameter of the fiber itself...
If found with my cigars, I have had carts stuffed with a thin diameter fiber, and others with a much stiffer, coarser fiber, and the thinner diameter ones seem to work better in terms of being able to use all the fluid up.

My m401's came with a VERY coarse, thick diameter fiber (very loosely packed) and they work fairly well.

But I repacked one with some thinner diameter wool from one of my pipe carts, and was surprised to see it didn't work nearly as well, which is the opposite of how it behaved in the cigar.

So here's my question, worded a bit better this time -

Q1: has anyone noticed performance differences with coarser, thick diameter fiber wool, versus thinner diameter "wispier" wool?

Q2: is this walmart 20oz polyester a fairly stiff coarse wool? Watching the video, the replacement wool appeared to be quite a bit thinner diameter stuff than what comes in a factory m401 cart, which is why I am asking

RN--What I mean by denser is the thickness of each actual strand and I think that is what you are refering to. If the diameter is to thick and course it will not wick. The 20 oz at Walmart is not course and is very thin so it is able to allow the e-liquid to wick itself down the cartridge and not get "hung up" so to speak. I hope that clarifies what I am saying--Thanks--Sun:)
