I just recently took up smoking recently. I was always vehemently against it because my parents smoked the whole time i was growing up and the idea of them getting old and being very unhealthy and probably dying of lung cancer horrified me. I started smoking cigars though around 18 though, not inhaling obviously and I didn't feel bad about it cause I wasn't inhaling, recently I got a pack of cigarettes for someone and they offered me one and in a split second decision I decided to inhale it and i loved it. I started smoking with friends who smoke when we'd go out and when we were drinking. I'm not a pack a day smoker or anything but I love doing it. I ordered a 510 starter pack and I'm wondering if it was a good idea. I'm not sure I'm addicted to it yet but I kinda want a reason to do it without feeling guilty with myself for doing it every time. I know a lot of people use them to quit but for all intents and purposes I'm using it as an excuse to start. Was that a bad idea?

what's ironic is none of them ever pressured me to do it so i guess i'm the stupid one. seeing as though i've never been addicted i don't know if i am but i feel like i get a craving like once or twice a day and if i don't smoke for a couple of days i get a pretty bad headache but i don't know if it's psychological or because of something else.

I totally agree with 42109! Starting smoking is my biggest regret, in 38 years of making some majorly bad choices... I can fully understand the draw (no pun intended) to smoking, and even more so these "cool" new e-cig gadgets. But the repercussions of this choice are huge, and will affect you for the rest of your life. If you are even questioning your addiction, it is probably a good time to not proceed any further with nicotine in ANY form. There is an area here for selling your items, and I am sure you would be able to recover a good deal of your purchase price if all the items are unused...

Sorry if this seems like a rant, but I am a new first time parent. My son is now 8 months old, and I am now looking at my life, and what I want for my childs life. Some of the decisions I made, I do not want my son make the same ones...

Good luck!

I do agree with you guys and if I felt completely okay with it I wouldn't have posted. Since I started doing it I've felt really guilty about it but I enjoy it a lot when I do it, it's very frustrating. So when I heard about the e cigs I got really excited because I felt like I could do it and enjoy it without worrying about health problems and it's much cheaper, however I would become a slave to another chemical if I'm not already which I'm worried I am.

Let's see -- you get cravings once or twice a day, headaches if you don't smoke... sounds to me like you're addicted to nicotine.

Would I encourage you to STOP using any form of nicotine? Yes. You're still very young and likely would get over it quickly if you stopped now.

However, that being said... If you do not want to stop, I'm assuming you are an adult and capable of making your own decisions. What you've written above should convince you that you are addicted to nicotine. Use an e-cig. Last I heard, it isn't a crime. We're here to support, not judge. Just stay away from the cigarettes at any cost.

Whilst I agree with the semtiments of many stating "Walk away now" the fact that you have been against smoking all your life and have still taken it up suggests that you are unsuccessfully trying to talk yourself out of it.

If you really want the enjoyment and find yourself unable to resist, how about going zero nic with the e-cig?

1 or 2 cigarettes is NOT an addiction and you should easily give it up.... whether or not you WANT to, is up to you.

Your post makes it sound as though your smoking is recent? Not long term? If that is true than by all means RUN don't walk away.

Your reference to physical discomforts when away from the tobacco do indeed resemble those associated with nicotine withdrawal. As the majority of forum members are NOT doctors, none of us can diagnose.

There are studies and anecdotal stories that support the idea that severe addictions to most chemicals develope over long term usage. While it is well within the realm of possibility that you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms even after such short term usage, if you were to back off completely and immediately, that same short term usage will be in your favor.

A little bit if discomfort now vs a self induced lifetime dependency on mind and mood altering substances...

Best of Luck

Not a good idea... Some people are able to take up smoking and quit anytime they want to. Others like me have wanted to quit for years, but have been unsuccesful for a million reasons. This is one method that is actually getting me off tar and 1999 other chemicals including carcinogens. I am one of those people that have had an extremely hard time quitting and am using this as a method to be smoke free. At 33 years old I look like im in my mid 40's and my nurse practioner thinks I have COPD (emphysema coupled with chronic bronchitis). I have 3 kids and I don't want them what their dad was like after I'm dead in 10 years... The time for me to change is now, It also a good time to not start down a path that you may find difficult to get off of. (just my opinion)

The fact that you already ordered the ecig means that you are going to try it. Whether it is is a good idea or not, you would probably keep smoking real cigars or cigarettes even if didn't get an ecig. Since you said that you tried it and you liked it. Welcome to addiction.

You could try and get your parents to switch to ecigs as well. I am against people who want to take up vaping who have not smoked before, but your already smoking so you might as well try something (that is considered) heathier.

Just don't take up vaping to look cooler than everyone else, or smoking analogs too for that matter.

I am simply going to re-iterate what the others have said here. I have smoked for 27 years. And like you, i enjoy it. However, There came a point in my not so distant past that changed me.
I dont drink, i dont do drugs, and am generally a well rounded person.
The thing that changed me, is when i changed to e-cigs. About a week afterwords i went into detox mode. It was horrible! I finally had to admit to myself that I AM AN ADDICT, and that realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

So yes, while we welcome others in our situation, we do not wish to see someone that has the ability to walk away relatively unscathed fall into the same pitfalls we did.

So with that said. Run like the wind and live a much healthier life.

This is kind of a stupid thread.

Smoking is bad for you.
Nicotine is addictive and poisonous.
Cigars cause mouth cancer
Nobody has used a PV long enough to get cancer from it yet. That doesn't mean they won't.

If the OP really wasn't sure he wouldn't have already ordered a 510. Its not an impulse buy if you have to spend hours researching it online.

This is just an example of a dummy asking a group of unqualified strangers about life changing habits.

Anyone who feels addicted to cigarettes after one day is the same stupid kid who gets buzzed off virgin pina coladas.

My guess is the OP wants to do what his friends do so he fits in. If so grow a pair.

There is no "perfect crime" here. Inhaling chemicals and being addicted to things is bad.

If you want to smoke, smoke. If you want to use a PV use it. Just don't ask me if its a "good idea." Thats just stupid.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the other posts, if you're able to stop now, by all means do.

If you like to puff on something maybe try some zero nicotine liquid.

I'm not against tobacco products or anti smoking at all, and I certainly knew the risks when I started ten or so years ago, I just wish I could have resisted the temptation and made some smarter decisions when I was younger and more vulnerable to my peers.

You say you like to smoke when you are drinking with friends. Well I'm guessing that after awhile of drinking with your buddies you get drunk enough to feel like you should have a smoke. Drinking will impair your ability to make good decisions, thus why you shouldn't drive a car or operate anything dangerous.

If thats the case than you might as well grab an ecig rather than a real cig when your drunk.

I never thought analog was even cool, I just wanted to try it to see what it was like... now smoking looks cool to me now that I've done it. If i use the 510 I ordered I probably won't even think I'm cool for using it, in fact I might get laughed at for using it, so I might not do it in all situations I'd smoke analogs.

I've been smoking cigarettes for like 2 months now just not every day, and I definitely did not start doing it to fit in, most of my friends don't smoke. But you're absolutely right, I am stupid.
