Regarding the snus: If I had not had that age-old stuff, I might have been smoking those analogs I still have around. I think a little water because it was essentially freeze-dried was definitely the better alternative.

As for OTD, pity, actually. I was picturing him in a rocking chair, surrounded by adoring little kids, with a nice big-print edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales on his lap … :D

Nah, new mental image.

Bald head kinda saggy lookin old guy wearing rainbow suspenders hunched over a laptop with a battery powered personal vaporizer at hand with absinthe vapor curling out of his snus filled mouth surrounded by little tins and plastic boxes filled with the brown powdery snuff that is more and more frequently being placed up his nose.....

Damn. Now that's a scary sight. I gotta get a web-cam!

You know, now I had to try to get another mental image out of my head all day (unsucessfully, obviously):

"Grandma, Grandma, who's that funny guy in the basement?"
"What do you mean, funny guy? Were you in the back of the basement where you are not supposed to go? Did I forget to lock the door again?"
"Grandma, he had funny stuff down there!"
"Now look, kids, I know he can seem quite harmless. Actually, most of the time he is quite harmless. But you never know, so please, don't go there again! And where did I put that key …"

I dunno. Not as nice as the rocking chair, but certainly more potential there :D "OTD, the hand of fate"

BTW, wanna see the rainbow suspenders, so do get that web cam! :D

Scarier still Alex, simply substitute "upstairs" for "basement" and you've come extremely close to nailing what goes on around here! 8-o

Not sure if this is the right thread, but...

Here's a power-house of info about snus vs smokes vs stonewall etc,
particularly snus-related & strongly about the TSNA levels.

Very much well worth a browse through :

http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/pubs/contents/4fc74817-64c5-4105-951e-38239b09c5db.pdf

TSNA in some selected 'tobacco' types (there's loads of types I never knew about),
rounded up 'parts per million of dry weight' = micrograms per gram:

7 Malboro cigarettes
11 Moist snuff (US snus, Skoal Bandits long)
7 Moist snuff (US snus, Hawken)
2 Moist snuff (Swedish snus)
1200 !! Dry snuff (Bruton)
65 Dry snuff ('Scotch')
<0.1 Ariva (Stonewall?)
6 Exalt (US made 'swedish' snus)
8 Creamy snuff / toothpaste (Dentobac)
0.002 Nicorette gum 4mg
0.2 Dried tobacco leaf

Some differences there then, don't understand the last one,
didn't realise cigarettes were so 'low' in TNSAs

Good-feeling summary, I like these bits:

Smokeless tobacco is not a single product, but rather a summary term for a
range of different tobacco products which deliver nicotine without
combustion.

On toxicological and epidemiological grounds, some of the Swedish
smokeless products appear to be associated with the lowest potential for
harm to health.

Some smokeless tobacco products also increase the risk of oral cancer, but
if true of Swedish smokeless tobacco, the magnitude of this effect is small.

In Sweden, the available low-harm smokeless products have been shown to
be an acceptable substitute for cigarettes to many smokers, while ‘gateway’
progression from smokeless to smoking is relatively uncommon.

Smokeless tobacco products have little or no effect on the risk of chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease or lung cancer.

All of the above hazards are of a lower magnitude than those associated with
cigarette smoking.

Not so happy about these bits:

These Swedish smokeless products appear to increase the risk of pancreatic
cancer, and possibly of cardiovascular disease, particularly myocardial
infarction.

Smokeless tobacco use by pregnant women is harmful to the unborn fetus,
but the hazard of smokeless use relative to maternal cigarette smoking is
not clearly established.

Really good stuff here, exo. All in all sounds upbeat. The elevated risk "of pancreatic
cancer, and possibly of cardiovascular disease, particularly myocardial
infarction" is compared to the use of nothing, I assume (I'm clicking on the link after this post). The stat on the Bruton's Scotch was ugly.....that's what I've been using . Although, far less than a gram a day....but still...

Done kristin's great poll,
see there's a significant post representation from the smokeless crew,
or are we all just social misfits that have to have a say in everything  :pop:

Think it's worth while taking your time reading it OTD

Thanks exogenesis for posting the link to that report. I have done some reading and find that there is some real good info there. I have to wonder that even with all their knowledge they are seemingly unaware of the existance of the WTA factor that has been discovered here. It sure would be great if we could make contact with one of the "Expert Panels" and supply them with the data we have compiled in this forum. I believe that if they knew the truth about the addiction to the WTA and not just nicotine that they might be able to do some research and get to the bottom of the root cause of our misery.

But the depth and scope of such testing would take many years ( just look at all the many years the "Nicotine Addiction" has been studied). This new information would cause them a significant set back.
