I am still confused about which nic base to purchase! I know I will be going with NN but I am uncertain as to what pg/vg nic base to get! When I finally try my hand at diy I want my juice to be at 50/50 as a finished product. So should I go pg, vg or a 50/50 or 70/30 base? I guess I'm just not getting this!
Should I go just pg in the base and flavor and add VG to hit a 50/50 finished product?

Many people here, myself included, prefer our nic in a PG base. You can do either. My opinion, I would stay away from odd pg/vg ratios in my base, rather adjust them myself as I like them. You are fine doing it however you like, of course, it's just a simpler calculation to use %100 of either. I don't see much point in buying 50/50 or some other ratio in my base. Maybe others have their reasons. Although, if you are getting the nic in a low enough concentration like 12 or 24mg, you could go that route and forgo adding extra pg/vg, but you aren't getting very much out of your money that way. 100mg/ml pg base seems to be the most popular, then just add vg to get to your desired ratio, flavors, and bada-bing.

Hope that helps.

PG vs VG is mostly personal preference. I personally like working with PG nic because it's thinner. And I mix 8mg or below and never big flavor %'s so getting a high vg blend is pretty easy. I generally vape 40/60 pg/vg.

The jury is out as to which stores better over the long term. Resident chemist Kurt has a compelling theory that VG may be better over long term. Considering my 3 year old nic in PG is basically identical to the purchase date, I'm not too concerned buying it in PG.

Will do Puffon! Krazy me is still hoping I will never need all of this but better to be safe than sorry! I only order juice from two companies and I have my fingers crossed that I will be able to get juice from them forever!
But I might surprise myself and make some awesome juice in my own!

Once you find some decent recipes that you really enjoy, you may never buy juice again! :)

Truth. I haven't bought juice in forever. Took about 6 months of tinkering with DIY and it was game set match. It's really no harder than a good mixed drink. Takes time to perfect but once you do you can drink it forever and be happy.

I'm down to a 4 flavor max rotation. Never have to think about what to buy and never have to dump anything down the sink.

Control is the best part. I find premix way over flavored and they all become cloying. I rarely use more than 8% flavoring in any DIY batch and usually 5% is plenty depending on what I'm doing. I would have never realized that unflavored is a nice vape if I never went DIY.

I think you've made the right move here. I think that the likelihood of us being able to buy nicotine either mixed or plain is very slim.

I did just what you are doing months ago to prepare for this day. You'll be surprised at what you will come up with. And, you'll know exactly what is in your juice and how it was handled.
I've never bought juice again after getting my first supplies.
Thanks to everyone here, and in other threads in this section.
Of course you know this is the first step, next you'll have to stockpile everything you need for vaping. Mods, tanks, spare parts.
Your budget will love you!

Luckily I am set with mods and rebuildable tanks! My REOs will probably outlive me! Juice is my last hurdle and I am determined to get the ball rolling! I have been vaping since 2007 and at least now I know what my favorite flavor combinations are!

I got my 120ml sample from Nude. It's high quality as most everyone already knows.

I'm ordering a $49 liter of RTS today. I'll report back once that arrives.

I've finally narrowed down my strategy (I mix for 4). Each liter will last 1.5 years based on current consumption of everyone combined (padded a little as well). I need a total of 10 liters to last 15 years. I'll be in my 60's before it runs out. I have 2 liters in my freezer so need 8 more. Trying to do the best I can not to break the bank...

2 liters VT = $200 (might do TH to lower cost.)
4 liters of either Nic River or RTS = $200
2 liters of Nude Armor V1 = $300

So $700 to set 4 people up for 15 years. Not terrible I suppose. Splitting it 50/50 means I only have to shell out $350 for a 15 year insurance policy for 2 people. lol

Pretty much this. VG "might" store better over the long term, but as long as it's sealed, iced, and dark, it should store pretty well regardless, and the PG is going to be thinner and easier to work with, especially if you're still using syringes to measure your ingredients instead of scales. Beyond that, there really isn't much difference. With 100mg/ml, you're going to be able to zero in on just about any PG/VG ratio you want unless you're going for a truly 100% mix of one or the other. I bought most of my nic in VG since I figure there's a chance I might conceivably want a 100% VG mix some day, but I find it unlikely I'll ever want to use 100% PG for any reason.

If there's any difference between nic with vg or pg, it's not enough to worry about. Main components that oxidize nic is heat, oxygen and light. That's what you need to be concerned with. I agree that one of the main reasons to order vg base is mixing high vg eliquids. It is thicker and harder to get an even distribution though.

A comment I saw from an Aussie DIYer was they ordered 1 of @ pg and vg nic bases finding they could make any ratio then. I thought that was smart if someone needs to mix a variety of levels.

Any 4th of July sales on nic yet?

I agree both VG and PG nics are fine, but personally find VG preferable imho, because there's a couple pro's over PG nic and no real cons... If mixing it once properly, it will not fall out of solution under normal conditions, even freezzing, and you have the benefit of more slowed molecular movement which inhibits oxidation + the possibility of making mixes without added PG(max-vg), whereas with PG nic you of course there have the possibility of making no-vg mixes, although that seems to be a very rare need to have.

The "con" is as stated some more shaking needed just to make sure it's mixed properly and that it's harder with using syringes, although you can simply use a lower gauge needle for that(or a scale ;) ).

PG nic is perfectly fine to me, but imho then VG nic has the upperhand here...

I am new to DIY and am about to buy several liters of 100 mg. nicotine in VG for long term storage in my freezer. I'm looking at buying it from NN, Wizard, MFS or RTS, but if anyone has a better suggestion, please speak up. It looks like the best price is RTS, but I only want to buy it in amber glass bottles for storage in the freezer. Does the RTS nic come in the amber glass bottles? Looking at the picture on RTS, it appears the nic comes in either brown plastic or glass bottles, but I can't tell which is which. Please advise.

I am reading a great sticky piece on guidelines for long-term storage of nic in the freezer, but I don't understand what the author is saying about air space at the top of the bottle. Please explain this in a way that a newbie can understand. I want to buy enough nic to last my lifetime, and want it to remain in my freezer until I'm ready to mix it.

Do you have any suggestions about which nic is better tasting or better able to with stand long term storage in the freezer?

Thank you in advance for your advice, hints & tips!

J.W.
