what kind of RY4 and 555, vendor wise, do you normally like?

If you want something more dry and cigarette like, I'd go for vaping zone 555

If you want something more sweet and Halo Tribeca-like, I'd go for TPA RY4 Double, and grab some acetyl pyrazine while you're at it

Ethyl Malitol is good to have on hand for these experiments, and like you said, caramel and vanilla. I really like FA caramel and TPA vanilla bourbon.

so far i have only tried ecblends 555 with xf, (liked it.) and ec's desert gold, and there ry4 were also good. There ry4 tastes like there 555+ carmel/vanilla.

Also tried the dk 100% pg versions (too harsh for me) and the healthcabin VG versions (not bad, but they have not steeped long enough to compare to the ec yet which was my very first ejuice purchase.)

There desert gold has been the only flavor in my 2-3 months since started that i like 100% of the time once it's steeped enough to lose that peppery flavor that some juices seem to hang on to before it's steeped out.... It does actually remind me of the smell of a pack of camels opened up.

I also liked the ry4 from Dekang, it was good taste wise but too harsh. What is acetyl pyrazine? I'd heard of malitol as a sweeter, i should pick some of that up as well.

I was thinking of MFS as the nic provider, as they seem to have good prices and i can customize the base (likely all vg) I have been vaping 50/50 blends lately, and thats as high of pg as i would want to go intentionally. You mentioned something about MFS nic maybe being peppery tasting on it's own? Hmm, not sure i'd like that..

i vape at 12mg, so that's why i would be using 36mg rather then trying to mess around with 100mg which quite frankly frightens me a bit. =-/

I think you should definitely snatch up some AP ( acetyl pyrazine ) it is a fantastic compound for tobacco vapes. A bottle of it smells like sweat! ( quite literally) but it imparts a certain earthiness and mustiness that blends perfectly with the proper tobacco base. Unlike CV though I tend to think it works better with dry vapes. I find that it rounds them out while building them up at the same time. Adding a certain complexity that I am looking for in my flavors.

But I do agree with CV on the TPA RY4, it's hard to wrong with that stuff.

Just finished my juice mixing, made up 9 bottles of flavored and 1 unflavored. I started with WL 48mg nicotine 50/50 pg vg. I used the online calculator at ecigvape to cut it down to 18mg 81.25vg/18.75pg for the unflavored. I do notice a mild flavor don’t know how to describe it but not dirty socks lol more like pepper. I also notice now that juice that I get from vendors is probably not as strong as they claim. I’m getting a stronger nicotine hit with this at 18mg. I also found out what the sweetness of vg taste like, been getting it all along in vendor juices and thought it was sweetener added. So far so good, now I’m just itching to try out the flavors I made up.

Gravity: I haven't tried those liquids, so I can't give you much direct guidance there. If you don't feel comfortable with the 100mg, don't use it. I didn't use it first for the same reason. And yes, MFS, wizard regular, and even VZ to a lesser extent will bring the pepper. But you may already be used to some that, depending on what your vendor uses, I'm not sure.

And EasyT is right, AP actually works really nicely on dry vapes also, I just don't really use it that way because I only bought it seeking a Halo Tribeca clone.

Duke: I've noticed the same, especially with MFS and WL wrt to nicotine hit. But as I said somewhere earlier I'm not sure its a 'real buzz' difference. It might be. Or it might be in my head. But if its happening to you, maybe not!

I just tried one of the 1 flavor mixes I made last night and again I’m getting a stronger nicotine hit from it. It’s great and I guess I can lower my nicotine down a little in the next batch, lol more savings. You guys are great for putting all your info from your testing on here, it helped me a lot. Oh in case anyone hasn’t seen it yet Myfreedomsmokes has there nicotine at 25% off with coupon code nic25.

after looking at prices and checking samples, Ive decided, for my own personal use, I like Extreme Vaping nic juice best...currently. As taste is subjective, others may disagree, but I have found their juice to be superb, with no taste of its own, good TH and one last thing...

When comparing Extreme Vaping Nic Juice with other brands, Ive found my attys last longer when using their base.

THAT could be another factor of comparison. MFS nic base kills my attys in about five to six days. I get eight to ten days on the Extreme Vaping juice all other ingredients are the same. I prefer a 50/50 pg/vg mix.

I wish I had come across this thread a few months ago before I ordered nic based juice to start my DIYing.
I have some stinky yellow nic (bought 3 bottles, VG based, in 100 mg nic base, 60 mg nic and 48 mg) and not liking my DIY stuff LOL.
Then I bought some VG nic base from elsewhere and my DIY is starting to turn out pretty good! Same flavors drops, just diff nic vendors.
I'm finding new info every day, sometimes at the wrong times or too late though LOL  hmmm, it's going to take me years to get through this ecig forum....one day at a time LOL
Love this site! :D so many great threads on here

Why? They have probably already changed their source, or bought or extracted a new batch.
If I bought nic from a vendor last year, or 2 years ago, could I buy from them again and expect the same results?

    I doubt it.

I agree. I think even tho we've had some occasional drama in here that this thread has been about choices. Most have come here and named there suppliers and gave their opinions w/o any drama. I return to this thread with the hope of someone discovering something that I haven't experienced yet.

It'd be nice tho? to be able to come to expect good nic consistently over a long period of time tho, wouldn't it? I've been with One stop for a year now and can say they that I'm getting the same nic.

Discouraging the naming of vendors is not a good thing for this thread.
So far this thread has been open and I believe honest.

Any rational person reading this thread will understand comments made on flavor/scent etc. are subjective and that
their experience may be different because everbodys senses are different.

Vendors may change their suppliers every month for all I know, but with enough info available patterns may emerge.

well rocketman I thought I was enough of a greasy fly for you :)

I tend to think most vendors cling to their nic supplier with a vengeance. I have been told as much by two suppliers, and have an interesting email from someone abroad that would seem to imply the same.

With how 'secretive' our vendors are wrt to their sources, it certainly makes sense. They've found something they approve of, they want to keep it coming, and don't want anyone else to find out about it. Perhaps if they caught wind of something better they may jump ship, or if they had difficulty obtaining their 'favorite' nic. But otherwise.

And from what I hear about the nic situation 'over there' there are dozens of places to get it, and only a tiny handful with a decent product. So assuming this is true, again, cling with a vengeance.

But yes, batch to batch variation, PG/VG variation, bottling variation, some guy who didn't wash his hands when cutting the nic...variation lol

And what casey, r77 et al. said :)

EDIT: If anyone wants to see something pretty funny, that wouldn't be appropriate to post here, please pm me your email addy if I don't already have it. I can promise you'll crack up.
