I smoked 1 pack a day of Marlboro menthol lights for 20 years. Quit 2 years ago with 18mg (1.8%) menthol for about 4 days. Went to a local shop and tried some fruit/dessert flavors and could never go back to menthol. The menthol made me sick to my stomach but I still like spearmint every now and again. My all day vape has been a custom vanilla, make all my flavors at home. I'm down to 5mg by dropping 1mg each month, should be nic free in 4 1/2 months.
Most sites should have a guide for nicotine content:
24-36mg(2.4-3.6%) full flavor-non filter cigs
18-24mg(1.8-2.4%) medium-full flavor cig
12-18mg(1.2-1.8%) light-medium flavor cigs
6-12mg(0.6-1.2%) ultra light-light flavor cigs
Not sure how closely everyone else followed this guide, I went on the safe side with 18mg. For all I know 12 may have worked.
You can play safe with 12mg and 24mg of the same flavor, mix a little 50/50 batch to get 18mg. If you think you might need higher go with 18mg and 36mg, mix 50/50 for 24mg.
Finding a local shop is the best thing to do so you can try nicotine levels and flavors. I had to have a throat hit and vapor for me to succeed, I think that's why most cig-a-likes didn't work for me.
Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you too much. Ask questions as often as you can, it doesn't cost a thing! I wish you nothing but success in quitting, and staying away from, those stinky sticks!
