Sure thing, just like this cup of java will soon have me injecting saline+pure caffiene.... cuz I need the rush that bad. Do they realize how weird they sound to people that have correct information? <head-slap>

Yes, it is a concern, but it's SO FAR down the totem pole(like 10' into the ground) it's... just so laughable!

My cubbies have a better chance of winning a pennant than this becoming a demonstrable issue.

I can't WAIT until a vaper takes control at the FDA (or any of these other 'health' organizations...)

Never happen you to have less than three working brain cells to get jobs there,
vapers would be over qualified. ;)

When they start the article out with a lie, "There is no scientific evidence that electronic cigarettes help to combat smoking addictions, says a report for Italy's health minister released Friday," as I haven't smoked in over 2 years and one of the better studies that puts the lie to it was done in Italy you have to wonder just how much $ BP is spreading around.

I didn't know e cigs were supposed to stop addiction. I thought they were just an alternative that is believed to be safer. When did the e cig industry or any one even claim this. Gladd they found another reason to attact e cigs. Odd verry odd.

It's a quasi-legal grey area... use of ecigs has been shown to stop the craving for regular cigarettes that many are addicted to... and will eventually kill them thru continued use...

Quasi-legal because NO ecig vendor can legally sell their products with overcoming addiction as a selling point. They can only be sold as a smoking alternative.

You know they are silly (well odd), and I know they are silly... they just haven't gotten the memo... either that or their three brain cells are having a hard time filtering the info....

I wish they would give me two lists....

one list is the health concerns of smoking cigarettes... the actual "smoke" side of the equation...

then give me yet a second list with the health concerns wrought by nicotine use alone, with no smoke.

Start separating the two and I'll quit looking at you sideways like my dog.... :)

I partake in a regular REAL cigar every now and then, just like a really good bottle of beer or spirits. They are fun now and then, but no WAY would that become my "daily driver"...

With this logic I can totally see how JFK is still livin' the good life somewhere out by Jupiter...

DISCLAIMER: mentally prepare yourself for posting... ESPECIALLY if you have read the "media-general-news"... or "legislation" sections of the site, it tends to make you sound exceedingly sarcastic! (but in a fun way)

Hes just toeing the party line, with the EU tobacco product thing coming up soon, he just wants to be seen as a team player.
Pity it's team BP.
A lot of this kind of thing turning up from health ministers in EU countries at the moment, part of the PR campaign to get ecigs regulated out of existence. Someone somewhere told him what to say and he repeated it as any good politician would, thats what they pay advisers for, to tell them what to say. This is what we in the EU are up against, a well organized campaign to eliminate ecigs as an alternative to smoking....well as competition for approved NRT in reality.

This headline is even worse:

"No benefit seen in e-cigarettes"

Both articles have this quote:
"Roberta Pacifici, director of the cigarette, alcohol and drug division of the National Institute of Health, advocated a "prudent approach" when considering a product advertised as a way to stop smoking while still toxic itself.

The electronic cigarettes, which have been a popular Christmas gift, are a concern because they may be a "gateway" drug that could see young people moving up from the gadget to the real thing, the institute said.

Absolutely NO evidence to support either one of those claims!

You go Lady Go. I watch the FDA thing online and simply had to laugh at the results from it.

Roberta Pacifici's 91 page report is in Italian at
http://www.iss.it/binary/fumo/cont/Rapporto_annuale_sul_fumo_2012.pdf

Can someone translate this document to English (or at least cite the pages that discuss e-cigarettes) as it I couldn't find the words "electronic cigarette" or any pictures of e-cigarettes anywhere in the report, which appears to focus almost excusively on cigarette smoking?

Its possible that Pacifici's quotes in the news media misrepresent the findings cited in her report.
