The buttons do lock (5 click power on and off feature)

The Vamo will remember the settings in Wattage mode, but if you turn it off when it's in Voltage mode, it resets back to 3v. There is no button lock on the Vamo. There IS a button lock on the SVD.

I also recommend 18350 batteries for the VAMO - I like the shorter version better. I use these IMR 18350, LiMn 800mAh Battery, Flat Top A great deal at $3.69, but I see they are out of stock. You can sign up to be notified when they come back in.

Also I have had the 4 bay nitecore charger from fasttech for a few months now, and it works great.

Hm, in my memory it looked like a dark blue, but it could be black. And yes, it was a wallmounted charger with a flip up/down plug. DON'T USE IT.

EDIT: Fished it out from under some boxes. Yes, it is indeed black. Don't use it. It'll kill whatever batteries you put in it.

I did use it just to make sure it worked. It charged the cheapo 18350's that came with the mod without a problem. I watched it like a hawk.

It's still going in the backup box. When the Efest 350's get here later this week, they're also going on my Nitecore.

I don't trust rechargeable batteries and haven't since an unfortunate incident several years ago involving a $1,000 piece of GPS equipment (which was under warranty).

hmmm... mine remembers the settings in either Voltage or Wattage mode, if you turn if off with the '5 clicks' and leave the battery in.

But, if you take out the battery to replace it... it does reset to 3.0v.

Next question :)

I was watching reviews and such on the youtubes and they were talking about how it checks the resistance of the clearo and then they set the voltage accordingly. Is there a chart or something that will guide me to what the best starting point is based on Ohms and voltage/Watts?

Geeve

When in voltage mode, the easiest method is to use the rule of 2. If your head is rated 2.5 ohms, add 2 to that to obtain your starting voltage (4.5 volts). Vape. Adjust upwards or downwards according to taste.

Here's a chart.

retired1 has a link to a great chart. That's especially useful now that you're about to set out on the mod portion of the VapeQuestTM*

Here's another graphic you should save and become familiar with.

I'm not sure who originally posted that here, and if he/she who did is reading this, both I and Geeve thank you.

*The VapeQuestTM is a lot like the Zen Path. It is the only way to Vaping Nirvana, and you may never reach it. Along the way, you will encounter great difficulty, sheer joy, bitter disappointment and wonderful satisfaction. You must never stray from the VapeQuestTM, even if it requires you to learn things like electrical theory and use high school math.

I have the Vamo V3 and love it. It has 510 and ego threads.
Some posts I've made about it.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/vamo/448768-watt-difference-watt-makes.html
Simply put:
1 Watt too low and you get weak vape & taste.
Just right and you get massive vape & taste.

1 Watt too high and you get massive vape with burnt taste.

Well I got an upgrade from my ego 1100mAh pass through to a Vamo V3 with 2200mAh battery (thanks John @ EcigFrenzy) and let me tell you what a difference it makes.

I like everything about it. From the feel of it in my hand to the ease of control.
My ego (9/16” diameter) always felt too small in my large hands & the Vamo V3 (7/8” diameter) is much more comfortable.
It appears to be solidly built (1/16” walls) and is heavier without the battery than the ego. You know when it’s in your hand.
Changing power levels is easy & you can even turn off the LED screen to save power for vaping.
You can even check the resistance of whatever you put on top (510 & ego threads) to vape with.
I have 5 Kanger T3s (2.4 Ohms) with a different flavor in each & found they range from 2.3 Ohms to 2.8 Ohms. Now I know why the one (2.8) only worked good with a full charge on the ego. Now it’s no problem with the Vamo, set the Watts & it adjusts to produce a great hit.
I’ve been vaping from 8 to 10 Watts depending on the flavor of juice.
Caution the higher you set the power the faster it drains the battery.

My wife said her spearmint juice was loosing it's flavor & was wondering what difference my Vamo made so I threw her tank on my V3 and cranked it up to 9.5 Watts. She said it was too strong now. I told her you can crank it down so it's not so strong. I tried her tank on her ego & my V3, weak on hers & very strong on mine.

Screw that! Press the + button. Does it taste burnt? No? Press the + button again. Repeat until it tastes burnt then back it off with the - button. See how easy that is?

^^^
Very much this.

On a VV device just adjust up until you get the first hint of a taste you do not like then back it down one. No need to beat yourself up with math.

Now when you start wrapping your own coils or playing with Mechs then YES you do need an understanding of the math for safety reasons.

Thanks for all thoughts and suggestions! I went and checked out the Zmax as well. I think I am going to go with the Vamo V3 from FT. It comes with the batts and charger and I have Clearos already. Plus with the $40.00 I can get some more Juice and a few more clearos and atomizers.

The Provari is a no go, the price point puts it way out there....

I really like the look of the Vamo and it will fit my iClear 16's too. I plan on keeping my eGo K's for when we go out and about, I have a lanyard for them already. I really appreciate all your input and thoughts.

So this will be my next major purchase:

$58.85 Vamo V3 Stainless Steel Variable Voltage E-Cigarette Battery Compartment Set - with Nitecore I2 US battery charger / 2*Panasonic CGR18650CH 18650 batteries at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Thanks again everyone :)

(I want the light saber from the youtube video pretty bad LOL)

Geeve

You have to understand something. Once you have used a ProVari you can no longer see other peoples price limits even when they post them clearly in online forums. As stated in the past, there's no scientific evidence of this, but the anecdotal evidence mounts daily in the vaping community. Pretty sure it's spread to Facebook and reddit now also :p

Seriously though, spend the extra couple bucks for the Stainless finish on the Vamo. The chrome and black chrome finishes wear off fairly quickly especially around the fire button.

Seriously. Some folks treat vaping like it's their dissertation for a PhD or something.

Gahh. Didn't y'all ever take things apart as a kid? Just to see how it works? :D

Knowing some of the science behind how these things operate helps solve problems or helps figure out why things aren't working the way you expect them to. With eGo and other simple stick batteries and standard delivery systems, things are pretty easy. With APV's and more advanced delivery systems, there's more to learn because there's more to tweak.

There's also a safety issue here. What happens when some knucklehead drops a big, industrial ICR battery into an unprotected, unvented mech mod and tries to power up a low resistance coil? If he doesn't know what's going on, he's gonna find out in a hurry and he'll probably wish he'd done his math homework.
