Ok, it's been 8 days since I smoked my last cigarette and started using my e-cig. I have been a 30 a day smoker for 23 years and I decided I wanted to quit for health reasons, fact is I liked smoking.
So I bought a Vision eGo with a clearomiser (i think that's what its called), it came with a 10ml bottle of 20mg tobacco tasting eliquid (70% PG/30% VG) and i've used about half the bottle so far.

So, even though i'm vaping, i'm still craving cigarettes and I don't know why. I'm getting plenty of nicotine so why do I still crave? Also, I don't appear to have started coughing yet or having any of the smoking cessation repercussions that I have seen mentioned, so I don't know what is going on there.

Finally I have decided to try a flavour of liquid that isn't tobacco. I would be interested if anyone has tried liquid from the company Delectable vapours and what they thought of it, I bought the flavour Green Cow.

Any comments appreciated.

I'll chime in on the easy question..

There are thousands of chemicals in cigarettes. The only thing you're getting when you vape is the nicotine. You are going through withdrawal of all of the other chemicals right now. Stick with it.. your body will clear those chemicals and you will break your dependency on those chemicals (and carcinogens!).

Welcome! And hang in there! :)

Welcome to ECF! And congrats on giving up the cigarettes.

As for the juices, and you ordering just one, there are a lot of good vendors for juice that offer sample packs. The hardest thing to find is "the" right flavor. Ones I thought I would like I didn't, and if not for free samples and contest wins I never would have found out that 1) I don't like chemically, perfumey ones. others love them 2) I don't like vanilla? 3) I like coffee?

I don't even drink coffee, and I love vanilla. Strange.

I wouldn't sweat it--some people find it easier to let go of those analogs than others. The important thing is, you're trying. It could be a number of things. Is that eGo battery an eGo Twist? I found that to be a big difference in my vaping. Or, I would suggest switching to a Vi Vi Nova tank, rather than the clearomisers (I tried both; found the Vi Vi Novas better). Or, try buying your juice from another vendor.

Whatever you try, stick to it--don't go back to those analogs, if you can help it.

I didn't quit and start vaping. I vaped as long as I could before breaking down and smoking a cigarette. I got to where I could make it longer and longer with just vaping, until I finally stopped smoking altogether. What works for one won't work for everyone. Whatever gets you off the cigarettes is the right answer for you. Don't feel bad guilty if you have to ween yourself off the cigarettes. Lots of us had to do the same thing. It's easy to look back now and think "Oh, that wasn't so bad". You'll get there if you keep at it.

Yeah, I've been only at it a week too. I'm having a hard time finding that flavor I like. Everybody describes the flavor like their having an orgasm and to me it's typically a very faint tease. But I see variability in the ratio's, nicotine content, your equipment, etc. So I'm still in the exploration mode. GL!

The flavor I vape 90 percent of the time is a very mild cappuccino. I'm not a coffee drinker either, so me liking that particular flavor was a surprise to me. If you find a flavor you can tolerate, keep enough of it on hand to get you by and buy samples of other juices when you can. Most of the samples I've tried I didn't like. I still order them on occasion because once in a while I find a nice flavor for when I want to switch it up a little.

First I'd like to welcome MP2012 to ECF. Don't worry about wanting an analog (cigerette). Also don't just buy one flavor of juice. Like was said before try some sample packs. I vape most of the time and like others have and will say "If you really want a analog then burn it up". It takes time to get adjusted to the new lifestyle. Over time you'll find that you smoke less and less. It's not written in stone what a person should do when they start. It's a life lesson learned. Good luck on you journey. What I finally learned was if I wanted a smoke I would vape first. If I got through vaping and still wanted one then I would smoke one. Baby steps for me. But then I fall down a lot sometimes. LOL.

Congrats on your 8 days :)

I can only speak for myself although I know there are many other that had the same experience as I did. Although I describe my over all switch from smoking to vaping to have been easy that doesn't mean it was without wanting to have a cigarette . ;) There were many times in my first 8 days that I REALLY wanted to smoke. I did let myself light one cigarette per day for those first 8 days. To my surprise when I did it tasted horrible and I butted it out long before it was done. I found that for the most part each day got easier with the exception that every once in a while for that first three months I'd be hit out of the blue with a nasty feeling that I wanted a cigarette "NOW" When those few moments hit I pulled out my highest mg nic and vaped my way through them. I never went through a time of coughing or bringing up any gunk. It took a long time before I noticed a sense of smell return to me that other people talked about. The day I did I was shocked to smell fresh rain drops on the grass outside as I hadnt even realized I'd lost that ability to smell somewhere along the way until the day it returned to me several months after I'd stopped smoking. It takes time to rid our bodies of their desire for all the chemicals found in our cigarettes. And we may still be getting our nic but we are getting it in a different way from when we were smoking and I think sometimes are bodies are trying to tell us that it wants it back in the old way it was used to for so many years;)

If you've only vaped 5ml of 20 mg nic in 8 days you've not fed your body very much nicotine. Nothing wrong with that if its all the nic you require but also nothing wrong with more if your body needs it right now. In the beginning the only thing that really matters is that you are not smoking anymore :) AND nothing wrong with a cigarette if you REALLY need it either. The cigarettes not smoked are much more important then the ones you do smoke in the beginning of vaping :)

Sorry for the long post here, but I have some pearls to throw at you.

Not everyone has an easy time starting vaping and stopping smoking. Everyone's experience is different. Everyone does it differently. I may go against the grain of opinion here, but you won't be committing a crime if you allow yourself a smoke or two a day in the beginnig. If you do smoke, limit the number, and try to vape heavier when you feel the need.

When I first started vaping, I vaped as much as I felt the desire to. I allowed myself 3-4 cigs during the first few days. As each day went on, I noticed the cigarettes were less and less satisfying to me. When the pack was done, so was I, and I never looked back.

You may want to get a couple more batteries for backup. My first kit used the small cig-alikes that only last 3-4 hours. I had four of them and thought that would be plenty. Well, about 3 weeks in, I realized one night that all 4 of my batteries were drained. No batteries, no vapor. While waiting for one of the batteries to charge, I had a terrible nicotine attack and drove the 5 minutes to the mini mart to get a pack of the old cigs.

Well, it tasted darn right terrible. I almost puked. I only got a few draws out of it before I put it out, and never touched another. Needless to say, I learned an important lesson - keep up with recharging spent batteries. DO NOT depend upon just ONE BATTERY! Have backups.
_____

Your not really tasting your flavors right now. Years of smoking have damaged your taste buds. Good news is they will come back good as new, but it will take some time. Practice frequent good oral hygeine and drink PLENTY of water. Vaping does dehydrate you, and that can affect your taste.

When vaping, exhale part of the vapor through your nose. We actually "taste" flavors by smelling, too. Remember when you have a cold or a stuffed up nose, and how dull or bland food and drink is? Let your nose help you taste.
_______

Finding a couple of good flavored juices will be as important for you to be successful as finding the right equipment. And this can be even trickier than finding the best equipment for you. No one can know what you will like because taste is so subjective. We can only provide you with juice vendors that offer sample or trial sizes of juice for you to try. Don't waste your money on larger bottles of juice that you may not like and never use again.

I'll give you a couple of popular juice vendors that offer sample packs. Don't just try tobacco or menthol flavors, although those might work for you. Try a wide variety: Candy, fruit, coffee, pastry, etc. You may be surprised what you like. I wasn't much of a coffee drinker, but coffee flavors are my very favorite vape.

*Vaping can work for you because it has some things the other quit smoking methods don't use. Besides being an alternative method of delivering nicotine, it also mimics the hand-to-mouth behavior that has become ingrained into our brains. It also allows us to inhale a warm vapor into our throat and lungs which can seem similar to smoking.

Grandmato5, you ALWAYS are able to express what I thought and felt when I first started. So very well said. The realization of suddenly being able to smell the rain nearly brought tears to my eyes as I read it, because I can recall the same exact experience recently. Simply inspiring!

You are doing great!!!! I think you might want to consider vaping more. You may not be getting enough nic.

As for flavors. I mostly think they don't have that much taste but I don't care since I now smoke very few cigs and think I won't buy anymore when these are gone. I was a 2 plus pack a day smoker for 30 years. Keep congratulating yourself on how well you are doing. Is vaping the same or just as good as smoking? I don't think so but it is the next best thing and I won't need an oxygen tank to get around in a few more years.

Try to get some sample packs in a nice high nic level. I hated capucinno to the point of gagging but lots of other people love it. Buttery Nipple isn't doing a darn thing for my taste buds but I am finishing off the sample bottle I bought. I totally love SI Ry4 but after about 12 weeks of vaping I find that the cherry is delicious and Country and Freedom flavors from Smokeless Image are now my two fave tobacco flavors.Poison from Mad Vapes and Mad Cat have sample bottles and I did like a lot of their flavors.

Keep going and make sure you realize just how great you are doing.

My advise, SMOKE. But vape in between. That is what I did and now after about 3 weeks I don't have a pack of cigs with me, and I am not freaking out. I did not "allow" myself a certain number per day, I smoked when I wanted a cig. After a while I would smoke half and throw it out, last week it was take two or three puffs and throw it out. Not because I was forcing myself but because I just did not want it any more. This is what has worked for me so far **fingers crossed**. Make it a process not a black and white decision, and don't beat yourself up.

Off topic, thank you grandmato5 for showing everyone up, but seriously beautiful words.

Couldn't have said it better. I'm at the point where when I want an analog, I REALLY want one. I think the best possible advice I've taken from here are these 3 simple 'rules';

1 - When you feel you have to have a cigarette, vape 1st....if you still want one after that, no-one is gonna judge you.
2 - Vape as often as you need or want. It's a totally different nic delivery system, so dont expect a 4 min vape every 45 mins will do. If you start getting light headed, slow down and drink some water.
3 - Change up those flavours. Toffee popcorn is my current favourite. I did start with a tobacco flavour, but seriously, the last thing I want right now is baccy flavour. I got a sample pack, and will definitely get more til I find about 3 or 4 I can happily vape all day.

One final thing....even the act of coming here and reading posts helps (for me at least). Just being among a community of people who are right behind you and always on hand with the pep talks :)

Keep it up!

It's all cool, TNT. We're all in this together with the same addiction. This is not just an information zone, its also a support group. And if we are inspired from someone's most sincerest experiences like Grandmato5 shared story, then we must take note of it and share our own.

Now turn away while I wipe my tear away.
