Now we have to worry about booze in our vapes.

It's a slippery slope...

12pk a day... in some Bavarian villages they'd send you another 12pk around to avoid malnourishment ;)

It's a slippery slope...

Some recovered alcoholics *might* be able to walk on it ( i.e. having a drink or two once in a blue moon ),
some have to stay on the path absolute sobriety. As Andria said, we're all individuals and what works for one person might be the doom of the next person.

As a lot of natural flavourings are extracted with ethanol, it's probably next to impossible to get the liquids completely alcohol-free wihtou a major redo of the recipe ( if at all ).

Solution is simple, like with Diacetyl ... Mention it on the label and let the prospective buyer decide for him-or herself.

Unless someone is taking antabuse, that small amount of alcohol in flavoring for a vape shouldn't cause any problems; it's a small amount, and the heat of the coil vaporizes the alcohol very rapidly -- probably even before it could be inhaled. As I've mentioned, I do occasionally put a 1/4 tsp of vanilla flavoring in my coffee; that small an amount causes no problems -- I don't feel it, so it's not an issue, and I don't then go around sucking on a bottle of vanilla flavoring. :D It might be a year before I even think of doing it again.

But someone who is taking antabuse (disulfuram) probably *would* have a problem with it; you can't even use mouthwash that contains alcohol, if you're taking that, without it being a huge cardiovascular risk. As to whether the alcohol in vape flavoring would cause a problem, I don't know, but I would tend to think not, just because of the heat of the coil vaporizing it so quickly, just as alcohol in cooking loses all potency, almost immediately -- only the flavor remains.

Every individual is different. My husband is a recovering alcoholic too, he quit a week after I did, after drinking the 12pk that was still in the fridge when I quit -- but the only AA meetings he's been to, this time around, were the ones in which I was "picking up a chip." Just because some individuals are different, doesn't change the experience of the vast majority -- I don't go to meetings anymore, but that first year, even to some extent the first FIVE years, if I hadn't gone to meetings, I would almost certainly have succumbed to resentment, then denial, and then drinking.

But that's really the whole point that AA makes about not telling other people that THEY are alcoholics -- everyone has to decide that for themselves. But once you've tried everything, to moderate, to self-discipline, to quit on your own... and none of it has worked for you... then there's AA. Which works if you work it -- but it won't do it for you. It's a tool which will work, if you wield it properly.

I agree on that. We're all different. I was not disagreeing to be spiteful or anything. It just kind of put me aback a little. Know my grandfather and uncle both are real characters. *grin* Also know they get something in their heads, watch out. Seems kind of a family thing. If we figure something and get it set, there it stays.

Not sure how much AA they were involved in. I do know they each had a few chips. It was kind of funny in a way. They both went through it, both worked at the same hatchery, both fished. Learned a lot from just being around them.

Only once heard my grandfather swear. He smashed a cheaply made fishing reel into a rock and said D_ it. Right away he was apologizing to me. He explained it was the reel that was making him mad. Rightly so, it was one that boasted no back whipping, or tangling. It had done both for me. I was not misusing the reel either.

Heh, that's funny -- I only ever heard my own grandfather swear one time, "damn" was his word too -- I was just learning to drive, and hadn't realized how much I needed to slow down, to make a turn -- took that turn almost on 2 wheels. But it really wakes you up, to hear someone swear who NEVER does. :D That's pretty much how I tried to teach my son -- 4 letter words when you drop an anvil on your foot, nobody cares if you used a 4 letter word! Any other time... "dang" and "gosh" work just as well. :D Of course then he joined the navy, and came home swearing.. like a sailor!

* LOL * Oh yeah. My poor wife can tell you all about me grumbling on about this or that being a cluster f_ or maybe humping as bad as two wet dogs. We sailors allegedly were taught to not swear. At least that was the general order back in 1996 when I was aboard briefly.

I have gradually mellowed down. Find myself pulling something that my Pap was famous/infamous for doing. He took a great deal of time in responding to people, events. You could hear the cogs ticking along, see the weighing of his response.

Get more like him as time passes. May have been enough to wear his exact face, but oh no, got to have his demeanor as well. *chuckles*
