Now we have to worry about booze in our vapes.

Gee, kinda looks like this Dude is Under the Influence and 2 Days out of Rehab. Was that the Intent? BTW - Does the Vapor in this photo looked Photo Shopped?

Actually I think he looks very serious, like someone on a movie trying to decide if he's going to kill someone (maybe I've been reading too many novels).

Booze in e-cigarettes can affect 'vapers': Study

Thank goodness I vape red bull so I don't get drunk off mine but you alcoholics best take care! This stuff is evil I tells ya, evil! Next thing you know they will tell you that if your eliquid gives you an erection for more than four hours, call a doctor. But to paraphrase Jeff Foxworthy, if I have an erection for more than four hours, I'm calling everyone.

Hmm, that's not the problem for me, it's lasting 4 hours without an oxygen machine

Uhh... me. I thought my "23 yrs sober" remark made that pretty clear. :D

But after I read a bit more of this thread... it sounds to me like the tiny amount of alcohol present in some vapes would IN NO WAY compromise my sobriety -- I've been known to put a 1/4 tsp of vanilla flavoring in my coffee, and that's not even enough to give me that full-body tingle. If I did that every single day.. or even got accustomed to using one of those "binaca" type breath sprays on a regular basis, that might be a problem, but not when it's now and then.

But it still seems like a kinda stupid thing to add to a commercial product when there's no good reason for it to be there. If an individual wants to add it to improve TH, that's a good reason... but Flash works just as well.

After 23 years sober, I would hope you know that you are strong enough to control yourself and not fall back into addiction "accidentally". It took me two years of no alcohol to learn that, now I can drink occasionally (sometimes excessively) and stop. To quote South Park, "you need discipline", not necessarily abstinence.

Nope, nope, nope. A true alcoholic requires abstinence, because if I have just one drink, my alcoholic brain will go, hmm, that's pretty good, I think I'll have another... and the next thing you know, I'm back to a 12pk a day.

Please don't try to teach your grandma to suck eggs. If I wasn't an alcoholic, I wouldn't say I was. The very definition of being an alcoholic is that discipline, will power, character, none of that means ANYTHING -- without abstinence, I would DRINK MYSELF TO DEATH.

People need to realize that some people are true alcoholics while others may just have a drinking problem. There really is a difference.

This study though is complete bs.

From what I hear, academia is now very much "publish or die."

Yes, let's do away with higher education and advanced degrees, because, based on the MANY posts I"ve read on this forum (way more than any other internet forum I've been on for 15+ years) anyone who has done the work to pursue a higher education, or obtain an advanced degree, is an idiot.

I'm glad you are setting the record straight Andria.

These otherwise ridiculous misunderstandings about alcoholism is exactly what causes people to think that alcoholics are somehow "weak" people because heck, if they just exercised enough discipline and will power they "wouldn't" be alcoholics.:facepalm:

It amazes me that people still believe that alcoholics can drink but they just have to "self limit" themselves.

I don't think that was what was being referenced at all. It was the (generally accepted) notion that people at the higher levels of scientific academia have an obligation to have their work published in order to maintain the perception of relevance, and thus have the notice that will draw funding to continue their work. It's not that these people are stupid - far from it! - rather, it is the construct of the flawed paradigm that forces them to do what is "necessary" to keep their position and tenure.

I'm going to assume that you quoted my post for convenience, since I didn't say anything remotely close to what you're insinuating.

Just because you now have to take into consideration who provided the grant for the research when you are reading the conclusions, doesn't mean you do away with research grants, it simply means you cannot accept the research as the unbiased nuggets of truth that I believe you could at one time.

However, it is not just my personal opinion that being published is ever more important in the world of academia. Publish or perish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LOL. I saw a Red Bull Vape in an online store and I did almost get it. Is it any good?

Apologize here, find I disagree a bit.

My grandfather and uncle are/were alcoholics. My grandfather passed a few years ago from a blood clot in his leg coming loose, going to his heart. He had just aged to death. He had been an alcoholic until my grandmother locked him out of the house one night. "Pappy, you been drinking and get too nasty for me. Go sleep out in a ditch tonight", she told him. He did too.

The next morning he found his boy and they both located an AA meeting. It took them both thirty years, they shared maybe one third of a beer on a hot Summer day. Neither wanted to drink any more. They both agreed they could have sat down and drank all day, on into the night. But they didn't want it. So, for them will power meant something. They had a taste and made themselves stop. They had a choice and chose to not drink.

It has taken me some time to understand this lesson they passed on that day. We all have a choice, weather we can all admit it or not. In their case it was to drink or not. In my case it's to cling to hating my step-father, father, life in general, or to let go of the hate and understand I have that choice. So I disagree that will power, character do not mean anything for alcoholics. I can happily and maturely agree to disagree too.

Still count you as a friend. Even friends can be different. In fact think I remember something about different being what makes our world spin. Hm, well I need to scoot on. Critters will be rebelling soon. Too cold to be without being fed sooner.

Absolutely! As if I never tried "self limiting"! The very first part of the very first step -- "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol" -- when you can truly recognize and admit that, you have made the first babystep to doing something about it. If you never recognize or admit that you're powerless over it... you'll continue being powerless over it. Getting over that denial is truly the first step, and though it's a babystep towards recovery, it's HUGE.

I'm no longer powerless over it -- because I don't consume it. If I consumed it... I'd be powerless all over again, and it would take something HUGE to get me back to that place of humility and self-recognition; I don't know if I could survive another "huge" to make it back; that's one of the biggest things that keeps me sober.

There's nothing "weak" about me; I'm a survivor. I'm also honest enough to know when I'm whipped.

Every individual is different. My husband is a recovering alcoholic too, he quit a week after I did, after drinking the 12pk that was still in the fridge when I quit -- but the only AA meetings he's been to, this time around, were the ones in which I was "picking up a chip." Just because some individuals are different, doesn't change the experience of the vast majority -- I don't go to meetings anymore, but that first year, even to some extent the first FIVE years, if I hadn't gone to meetings, I would almost certainly have succumbed to resentment, then denial, and then drinking.

But that's really the whole point that AA makes about not telling other people that THEY are alcoholics -- everyone has to decide that for themselves. But once you've tried everything, to moderate, to self-discipline, to quit on your own... and none of it has worked for you... then there's AA. Which works if you work it -- but it won't do it for you. It's a tool which will work, if you wield it properly.

Noone else to blame but myself.
    Shouldn't have read it...

Now I need a new BS-meter ... again. (Needle flew right through the casing on the old one)

Non-alcoholic beverage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As per this entry, anything upto 2.8 percent is considered non-alcoholic...

Let alone the absolute quantity per bottle... Hardly enough to fill a cavity in a mouse's molar...

First Harvard, now Yale ... BT mut be doling out 'research' funding very generously to get former reputable outfits like these to sell whats left of their ethics.

    Idiocracy, here we come....

I drank 2% beer when I was an 18 yr old in Colorado -- it is definitely not non-alcoholic, and WILL get you intoxicated... if you can drink enough of it between trips to the bathroom!
