Can easily see that putting a kibosh on your evening, and a possible dangerous situation. I know that in the CR using too many sugar cubes and setting fire to them is a common practice, neither the right way to do Absinthe to the purists.
I don't imbibe the stuff now days, just vape it and the Nuppin' excels at doing that.
When I did DIY I used to infuse some of my flavors, so considered it for Ab. Three species of wormwood grows wild here on the desert, in massive numbers in some places... A. tridentata, A. filifolia and A. dracunculus. But research has not shown any of these used to infuse Ab even though I know that the Native Americans used them for various things (including to smoke in their pipes, for sweat lodges, ceremonies, etc). Absinthe as a beverage only has small levels of Trujone infused in them, not enough to be harmful as was thought for nearly a 100 years. But the NA's often used things that were hallucinogenic (ie Peyote, Psilocybin mushrooms, etc), so possibly their smoking dried wormwood does raise the levels and the trip that follows.
