I just pre-ordered the Ody and also a DID. I'm new to this so bare with me. The Ody needs wick, no resistance and resistance wire, and the DID needs res. wire, no res. wire and ss mesh?
Anywa, I'm having a hard time finding the kanthal wire everyone recommends, will nichrome do the job for a first timer like myself? What size do I need? I can get the silver no res. wire no problem though. I can find kanthal in larger sizes like 34 and 36, will that work ok? Lastly, where on earth can I get wick that will be good for a newbie like myself? COV is out of stock and no sure where else to turn. Thanks!
I've become a fan of using thinner wire even with LR coils. It reacts and heats up faster. The wire that's coming with your ODY is 0.15mm nichrome which is in between 34 and 36 awg. It wouldn't hurt to start with that wire to see how you like it, three feet will go a long way. Later you can experiment and compare it to 36 awg Kanthal once you acquire some. Just my
Any idea on more wick? I see COV is out of stock on most of these supplies I'm after, do they restock often? I'm more concerned with running out of wick as opposed to wire atm. Though I'd like to stock up on both. Also, does it matter which kanthal I get, A-1 of D?
Ty89m, for the DID you only need the res wire and SS mesh, and you do not need the no res wire for the DID. But for the Ody you will need both.
Ok, what difference does the size of wire make? Why is 32 the preferred? If I were to order nicrhome right now, which would be the best size to start with, a good happy medium. Is there any other wicking material available that would be ok other than the stuff at COV?
I would recommend getting the supplies from GG resellers as those are the "tested and Proven" items. however if you browse through the Ody thread you will fine all sorts of stuffs for wicking, but i would stick to the standard ones if i were a beginner.
For 32 guage Kanthals you can just do a search on ebay and you should fiind some without problems.
Its the most reccomended material in terms of performance and 32 gauges are mainly for Low resistance enthusiast. By all means try the original 36guage resistance wires from COV, those when done with standard procedures will give you a range of 2.2-2.8 ohms (just pulling numbers here, you can go up to 3.5ohms if you choose to do so). My personal favorite is the 32guage at about 35mm for resistance coils, gives about 1.2-4 ohms which to me.. is vaping heaven

I am new to the rebuildables also, but purchased my wick from McMaster-Carr based on recommendations on this forum. Imeo said that he will send 1 premade wire and a meter of wick (which should last you a little bit).
