Nextel XC-116 can be purchased from Omega.com but please note that it must be torch or Kiln treated before use to burn off the sizing... Kiln treated is the best but a torch or stove burner will work....

What is kiln treated? I figured torch is just heat the nextel in a torch flame. But kiln....like a pottery kiln?
confused

tinkering with ody today. yesterday i got my ceramics:) i built a coil with the wick material i have. problem is that the wick is really thin. kept flooding it so i read that if the coil is to thin it would flood. folded the wick till it was a thick as nextel. i went ahead and tried mrkrinkles method no wick going down the channels. he is right, if tightly and neatly done the wire is safe from shorts. i did a three ohm coil running it at 5volts. the vapour is really hot and it has a lot of flavor. haven't opened the juice control yet let's see when i need to open it. good job figuring this way out krinkle.

Good News Im glad your having good luck with it.... I typically open my juice control one half turn and never need mess with it again till its time to refill.... lately I have been using the 0.9ohm dual coil @ 3.7v and its pretty friggen awesome...

Thank you Krinkle......... now where did I put my kiln?

a friend of mine does the kiln burn for me when I get a chance to talk to him I'll see what temp he does it at and for how long... If I remember correctly he burns it for an hour but I cannot remember what temp...

I'm now calling this method of making wicks and coils "The Krinkle"

Right now in my Odysseus mid mode tank, I'm running a half Krinkle with 1 layer of Iatty wick and 2 layers of Ody wick with a strand in the ground channel to wrap my negative lead around.

In my drip mode I'm running a half Krinkle with 2 layers of Ody wick wrapped in 400 stainless mesh.

Both are using 7 wraps of 30 ga for just over 2 ohms.

Need to adjust the coil spacing on this one...

I have no clue as to where I would find a kiln to do the burn in....but I do have a torch
so I'll give it a go with the torch....... your method interests me............ however I have had no leaks in the two modes I have used the ODY.... and like you I lubricate the ODY every wick change...only difference is I use bees wax not vaseline.

well aside from buying say a small knife makers kiln which is what my buddy uses and can be bought for around $300.00 on ebay when you can find them... but Richard mentioned a store here in California that does pottery burns for people (color me something) something like that... but perhaps a local high school or college may also be willing to burn it for you if you say pretty pretty please.... and I like the idea of Bees Wax its very organic and I like that...

Please Keep in mind when using my method that the wick needs to act almost like a Dam as not to allow juice to seep through the channels but only to saturate the wick itself... I cant think of any better example than a Tampon but it illustrates the principle perfectly... in other words if you dont stop the flow correctly your going to need panty liners...
