I honestly don't have a good answer for you. I think both should not be done, and I am going to stop the practice. I will see if I can come up with a satisfactory method.

One thing that helps is with NET juices, temp controlled coils gunk up less. coils in general seem to last longer.

I do indeed expect slower gunking with temp control. How much with NET remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be surprised if the improvement is quite drastic. I'm already getting more run time after switching to rayon and spaced instead of contact wraps. If run time is improved enough with temp control, I would be willing to drop dry burning.

Just thinking outloud, if you were to set the temperature below the point where your extracted tobaccos turn to carbon then there wont be any buildup.

I think it will help; minute tobacco particulates burning onto a coil may be a big cause of the gunk that temp control may slow. Just have to see how it works in practice. Fingers crossed, I'm pretty excited about this new tech!

I can understand that but if you can taste metal like with kanthal without torching it first then I would think you are getting a lot more metal than torching it first and not tasting it. Make sense? If you can taste it then it has to be a fairly high ppm wouldn't you think?

This should be easy to test. Thoroughly rinse a length of kanthal with alcohol, and use it without torching it first. How does it taste?

That could be. Maybe they use something that alcohol won't cut. When I get a new atty whether supposedly RoHS compliant or not, I rinse it in gin or vodka. If I don't then I get a nasty taste, not exactly metallic but nasty. I have always contributed that to machining oil.

I've done this with kanthal, it tastes metallic. That's why I always torch. But they may be using something that alcohol won't cut. Will have to see about the nickel.

Any consensus on nickel gauge to get the full 10-40 watt range? Seems like we'd want more wraps with this capability, especially with the boost feature. 30awg? 28awg?

Temp control and reverse battery protection are the 2 biggest. I have no need for a 40w device.

On a side note, I was leaning toward getting a Clouper clone but after watching the few youtube videos from PBusardo and Brandon from Evolv, I want to get a genuine chip (as well as support his company) so I'll be ordering a rDNA 40 after I see some review. If that doesn't pan out, I'll get something else with an Evolv chip.

Oh sorry. I was under the impression this was a new development that hasn't come out yet (rDNA40). And perhaps the Vapor Flask had an older version of the DNA40.

I hope you are wrong...BTs little nasty cig-a-likes aren't going to help anyone stop smoking....I think the regulated mods, especially DNA40 are going to fly into the faces of the Pseudo-scientific nimrods on parade...i.e. WHO and FDA

That's the Vaporshark rDNA 40 that uses the new DNA 40 chip. The DNA 40 was just released today (technically yesterday, 10/14).

Have a couple SX350 boxes that I am gonna try to sell to offset the cost, but the temp control along with stepdown really is what I've been looking for. Haven't been over 30w in months so I don't need the 60w, and tend to run .6-.7ohm at 20w or less most of the time so stepdown is required. Not to be ignored, my GF is very nervous about the whole vape game as it is, and being able to guarantee that I'm not burning crap up is a big weight off her mind. I know that I don't burn much as it is, and even then it's light discoloration on cotton, but every little bit helps. I'll be sure to update once the flask shows up, says it shipped already

I am sincerely happy for you. I don't even know you, but when I read your post I was like, "Hell yeah! Right on." I got to Vaperev minutes too late, but I felt better when I saw your post.

I knew Hyperion was going to have the Flask dna40's today (Vape Rev didn't give much notice) so i was ready but actually thought, since the v2 dna30's went in minutes, the 40 would jammm the site and I'd have no chance in hell (it always happens).
For whatever reasons, I got my order confirmed at 4:01 for a gunmetal Flask 40.

In the last week I've finally learned that my DNA30's strength is in LR range coils with thin wires = more surface area, and better cool down than thick wire sub ohms coils, and high voltage = the WAY TO GO with these things.
They go upwards of 9 volts! My Raptor 120w, Ranger50w have 6v max.

I've liked single coil RTA's the most (Prometey2, Achilles) and with thick wire .6 to 1 ohms coils were giving me fits with burnt juice and fiddling with coil diameter and wicking.
So a 1.5 to 2 ohms (30-32g) coil at 6, to 8v is what Ive been needing for my RTA's... and comparatively little watts! (13 to 20w) Nirvana!

I still like and occasionallyuse my Origen and Magma dual coils at .25 to .50 ohms, 26g wire, with my high wattage chip boxes or mechs... I guess the dual afc air keeps it cool, but I am stoked with the DNA's.

the DNA40 is going to be a whole new chapter though... its cool that if you use kanthal you can still run it like the 30, but temp control and Ni200 wire coils is definitely a must try.
