Started a new job....0730-1600 part time with no more than 24 hours advance notice of scheduling. Don't think this is going to work out. Contacted a couple of companies I drove OTR for years ago....said they'd be happy to sign me back on but it would require "re-certification" because I haven't driven professionally within the past two years. I said fine, I'll drive over and you can re-certify me; used to be an open book DOT exam conducted by the employer. Now, re-certification has to be conducted by a truck driving school....in my case, the Truck Drivers Institute over in Sanford, FL.
I checked it out, applied, paid for the background check, and now I have to decide whether or not I want to spend 3 weeks relearning everything I already learned at a cost of 6 grand....total expenditures reimbursed by the company I sign on with. Of course it's guaranteed reimbursement....just like the pile of manila folders I crapcanned containing all the reimbursement documents for all the expenses that were never repaid by trucking companies in the past.
I'm thinking seriously on it. I'm really worn out from my wife being up in my armpit 24/7 for most of the past 15 months of retirement.
You folks hang onto what you've got for as long as you can....give it up and you can definitely do worse.
