G'day All.
I have a bit of a conundrum.

I'm a relatively new vaper. Started earlier this year with evods and quickly moved to a Kanger top tank mini starter kit.
The kanger "broke" in less than 2 months (fixed now though) and after finding this forum I realised my vaping future revolved around a Provari so I bought a Procyon, which I Love. (this is a very long story made short)

I was originally considering a Radius but the "plastic" body put me off somewhat (as did the "stupidly complex" battery replacement) considering it was AUS $300 down here in Australia, so I sprung for the beautiful SS Procyon.
Long story short I've been over the moon happy with my foray into Provari ever since.

But after an initial and very disappointing addition of a kabuki I upgraded to a Kayfun 5 to grace my beloved Procyon.

The past cuppa days I think I've managed to overcome the shortcomings of the kabuki and I'm toying with the idea of buying another mod to have it permanently attached to.

This brings me back to reconsidering a Radius, partly because I now have zero interest in any other brand of mod, and partly because I'd love to have a box mod as well as my magnificent tube mod.

I'm Not a wealthy man, but I do know a quality and durable product when I see it.
I love vaping and it will be a part of my life for years to come.
But I have no interest in cloud chasing, and the latest greatest features.
Its all about flavour, reliability, and consistency for me.

Buy the best Now, and simply sit back and enjoy my vaping for years to come.

So a question for those of you who own multiple Provari's, do you think I'd be a happy man purchasing a Radius as my only "box mod"...or do you think it would be a small step "backwards" from my beloved Procyon?

p.s. I don't need more than 30watts and never will, so even the 40 watt Radius is and will be more than enough.
oh and I do actually miss plugging in my kanger to USB charge for top ups in the car/truck which is something the Procyon can't do.

OK, so what changed your mind on the Kabuki? If I've followed your messages correctly, you were having problems with burnt coils. How did you overcome that?

As one who owns multiple Kabukis, two Radii and lots of P3s and 2.5s, I'm obviously heavy into the ProVari and House of Hybrids world. However, I do have multiple authentic Kayfuns and other mods, which I also like. This past weekend I spent most of my time using an Aspire NX-75 and an Innokin Cool Fire IV 18650, both with Aspire Triton Minis with 1.8ohm Clapton coils at 14 watts. Great little units. I'm glad I have them.

Both nothing but the damn FDA will replace a Radius with a Kabuki for home use or a Ti P3 with a Ti Kabuki for out and about.

oh and I do actually miss plugging in my kanger to USB charge for top ups in the car/truck which is something the Procyon can't do.

It warms my crybaby little heart to see a beginner find Provape bliss so soon!

It took me almost three years (and lots of hard earned money) to realize how stupid I was by not just getting a Provari first.

I think you will like the Radius very much, based on what I've read from you here.

The "plastic" body is the same polycarbonate material used in quality firearms, as well as fighter jet cockpit canopies...so needless to say, it's very high grade and probably overkill for the job.

The "stupidly complex battery replacement" is really not complex at all.

Every Provari has a threaded base cap for battery removal. Same here. The difference is, the Radius has two things to unscrew instead of one.
I've found the battery swap on a Radius to take less than a minute longer than that of a tube Provari.
Tell me how that's complex! [emoji16]
Well, OK...my first attempt was a little clumsy cuz I was all "Ooh" and "Ahh"...but since then, it's been easy-peasy.
Also, it's totally unnecessary.
Provape designed the Radius with a very well built on-board charging system.
I only rotate 5 batteries between two Radii because I'm extra special OCD.
The design of the whole battery system on the Radius was designed to give the battery a connection similar to a mech mod, and the on-board charger lets you treat it like a captive battery device. And then they threw in an easy to use battery replacement feature, so you wouldn't have to send it in to be replaced, or toss it when the battery no longer charges.

---------

My point is: I really enjoy it, and if you like Provape gear, I think you will too.

I used to be anti-box mod.
Then I found Billet Box. And proceeded to fall down the slippery slope of now owning 7 of them...inside three months. My credit cards hate me.

Then came my Radii. And I can't put them down. My BBoxes have been gathering dust since the Radius came home to roost.

Last point: The Radius is as tall as a Provari tube in 18350 battery mode...but it uses an 18650...so you save in size. Which makes a huge difference to a lot of people.
The Procyon, with Kayfun 5, is a very long setup. The Radius, with Kayfun 5, is much shorter.

Good luck! It sucks the exchange rate (or whatever) makes the price so much higher.
Definitely post pics if you get one!

I'm kinda late to the Provari cult myself, but after scooping up some of the sale tube styles and a few Radii, I do see why people like them so much. I have not tried the Procyon, but between 2.5, classic, P3, and Radius, the vaping part is all pretty much the same good vape. I like the more modern screen features on the ones newer than 2.5.

From what you say you want in a box mod with the on-board charging, I think you would like the Radius. My favorite feature on the Radius is the 3-button controls so I can adjust the watts without all the button clicking and scrolling to get to that part of the menu. The plastic body isn't cheezy and cheap to hold. I think the plastic on the ghost white is smoother and a little nicer to hold than the purple one, but I can be a little weird about textures. I don't change out batteries on mine, I just use the on-board charger port, and have enough other mods that I can use something else while the Radius is charging. I did get a different charger cord to use instead of the little one that came in the kit because I have so many other USB charging things that having dedicated charging cords made sense for me.

The $300 price is pretty steep, but if you can afford it, I think you will be happy with the Radius.

The one thing you have to determine is whether (or not) you can live with the battery replacement, if you even need to do that.

Think of it as a non-replaceable battery mod.

Can you get by on 2500-3000mah a day?

If the answer is yes, then this is a good mod for you, if no then you have to really think about how you are going to get along with those Two screws.

You are probably going to go through batteries at 20-30W.

This is true of any single batt 18650 mod.

Quite frankly, anyone using power in that range, or above, should be using a dual, or triple battery mod, or something with a magnetic battery cover imo.

Having said that, you can get really good at pulling the battery on a Radius with a little practice.

Hang on to those screws though, and make sure they are really (really) screwed in there.

I almost dropped one down the sink the first day I got my Radius so I ordered a backup set of screws. Of course, no near mishaps in the 9 months I have had my Radius, but at least I'm covered!

I think you will be very pleased with the Radius.

My tube mods are ProVi's and P3's and my favorite box mod is the Radius.

It's a solid device that weighs about the same as your ProCyon and is very comfy to hold and use. It's also extremely durable. Mine looks just like it did when I acquired it last October, and it's had daily use and some abuse. (The inevitable drop as well as being tossed in a purse.)

If you don't mind the tube, a 2.5 provari will work with the kabuki. They are far less expensive now, and have enough power for that tank.

The Radius is a quality unit, the poly carb body does not detract from the quality at all. As they say - "It just works"

Battery screws... I just can't believe people have issues with this. Takes less than 30 seconds. I don't bother using the onboard charging anymore, I just have a spare charged battery on hand and swap it over. You don't need an engineering degree, it is just 2 bloody screws that unscrew in a flash. Everything lines up, you can't do it wrong if you tried LOL

I love my 2 radiuses. The plastic body, as others have said, is comfortable, grippy, strong and relatively light. And, it is short. I've got a P3, which I use in 490 mode and which I love too. But, always happy to go back to the radius.
I've only removed the battery once--when I first received it, just to see how it was done. Having 2, when it runs low I USB charge it and use another mod. But, that said, it's no big deal replacing the batt.
And, although I happily use Kabukis quite a lot, I can't resist a plug for byLeo's Calix, which is a RTA available in both 510 and P3 modes. It's light and small with great flavor, and I prefer it to the kfl5, which for me is a tall brick.

Just to add my two cents... I've been using for the past few days an Aspire NX75 and an Innokin Cool Fire IV TC 18650 instead of my two Radii. Both are very nice units, and I like them and will keep them. But I've just gone back to my Radii for daily use. They are just better. I don't know why? Maybe it's the button? Just stick in quality batteries, use the built-in charge ports and you're done.

When I got my first Radius, I made the comment that it was the first mod that felt like a classic Leica screw-mount or original M. I have not changed my opinion.

That's funny. I took photo journalism in college and used to dream about owning a M. Back then they were a good 4-5x more expensive than my fairly high end Nikon bodies. Stupidly expensive for a student and I never did get one.

You are right though, my crappy "plasti-mod" feels as high quality as any mod I have ever tried. I am on a mech kick lately, but the Radius and a KFL+ is always my go to mod when I go out. After 9-10 months, I still love the thing.

Check your settings menu on the dark one. There is a B on B off that toggles the blue charging light. B on makes it light up.

On the left is the P3 Gun metal Zencote in 18490 mode with a Kabuki. I think the gun metal zencote is terrific.
In the middle is the byLeo Calix Pico, which has a 510 connection. (They also make similar ones with a P3 connection, but which I have not tried, and whose airflow will be different, and I suspect closer to the kfl5.)
On the right is the kfl5.
Love the Calix, love the Kabuki, like the kfl, but not enough to keep it, given the size and weight differences.

The Calix has taken over my gear. I own 5.
I have put all but two KFL's in storage.
I also rotate in a KF4, but the Calix calls to me like the Radius. And the combo is incredible.

Hands down one of the BEST atomizers I've ever used, in almost six years of vaping.
