There was a court ruling against Apple - they cannot use the water sensor against a customer claiming warranty repairs. I forget the specific details of the ruling, but if you're curious, I'm sure google knows.

Sigh.....not one of the links you posted is FROM Apple........It may not be easy to get water in a Lightning port, but it is not waterproof.

Not many here know I'm level 6 on Apple's hosted Discussions forum (to get that level, I've been awarded points from users for solving their iPhone/iPad problems to the tune of like 12,000 points now). Daily someone comes in because they got liquid in their lightning port, the phone no longer works and they're furious because Apple won't replace it under warranty. This is day in day out.

Gee, wonder why Apple won't say their product is water resistant...

I wish they did make a water resistant iPhone. I feel badly for the people who drop their phones in the toilet almost daily.

That's why it is now on the motherboard, rather than a sensor which would turn red in a slight drizzle. It is now used to determine if an iPhone has been submerged, not just used in snow or drizzle...

Maybe because it's NOT water resistant.

Because people would use them in the rain or drop them in a tub or toilet then complain Apple said they are water resistant, not because they are not water resistant and the Lightning Port not water proof...

Very few things if any are actually water proof, only water resistant.

You'll very very rarely see the term "Water Proof" on a product anymore. Even watch companies with Diver watched post Water Resistant ratings. This of course avoids lawsuits.

Regarding Apple not advertising the new iPhones as Water Resistant? It is not meant to be dunked in water, but if you drop it in water, you have a chance that your device won't fail.

I think I will go find a thread on ECF on a mod that I have no intention on ever buying one. Then I will post all my reasons for not buying one, and bash that mod to justify my reasons. But I'm not going to stop there, I will hang out in that thread for days, maybe weeks, to start arguments and upset people in a way that would make any Internet troll proud.

I saw it as a back and forth on the subject. It would seem to some that you are the one with the closed mind in the situation. Many will want the usb, some have even ordered covers for said hole, possibly showing that you may have a valid point. Its all in how you look at things.

For the Lightning Port it refers to the pins which are coated to not deteriorate with water or moisture...
