LOL, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there was. After rinsing there was no sign of the vinegar. It really was a nice way to clean out lingering old juice so I could use these for new juice sampling. But I never tried it on a poor performing carto to see if it cleaned the coils or not. Surely someone has tho.
So, my science project sat overnight. I transferred these little coils and their solvents into carto condoms, just so I can see them side by side. I'm going by the color of the liquid to see which one dissolved the crud.
- the vinegar/baking soda is brownish. Works! Still a little cruddy though. I'm gonna leave it in there a little longer to see how long it takes for the crud to completely go away.
- no change in the denture tab liquid (still whitish/clear). Coil looks the same.
- the e-liquid (for PG) is still clear, but there's a very tiny bit of brown swirl when you shake it.
- when I screw up another carto (or give up on one of these), I'll retry the vodka soak.
Here is a thread you all might like to look at about cleaning carts, attys, etc. Looking forward to the results you all get!

I use the vodka/sonic cleaner version but I DON'T wait two months to clean them!

I clean all my cartos the same way as you once or twice a week, and the coils still got cruddy. I've been keeping a lidded jar with vodka by the sink and tossing spent cartos into it, so some get to soak for a few days even. I'm starting to rethink vodka as a solvent now, and maybe replace it with vinegar...dang, all those Seabreezes I coulda had!
Not a bit, no sign of any bad flavor. Other than the new juice I tried (yuck).
That's great news, because I think this is the one I wanna try. I tried cleaning ONE carto last night with Dawn, and, as predicted, Dawn was a pain in the a** to rinse out! I think I held it under the tap for like an hour! Finally got so tired of rinsing that I had to stop, and today it still smells kinda soapy.
Shucks, there were a couple more that I missed:
You can't really just drop these into an ultrasonic cleaner without trying to soften the crud first, even with the right solvent. Even if you can get through the crud with it, the bundle of filaments that the wire is wrapped around is quite delicate. I tried this, and had to stop after a few cycles (I did quite a few), because I was starting to see it fall apart. So with the right solvent, there's only so long you can zap it in there.
You can run vinegar through a carto-cleanonator thingie, but what I've noticed is that it takes awhile for the vinegar to dissolve the crud. Last night, it didn't seem like it was gonna do anything. Today, it was brown with dissolved crud. So, you may get the batting nice and clean, but it probably won't have much effect on the baked-on crud on the coil. Think of how much better your juice would taste if you can clean that stuff out.
