Guess what? The Kingtu's clone deck and tank fit the authentic. If you're ever in a bind for spare parts...

A buddy of mine picked up a Kingtu clone and I must say I was very impressed and just a little jealous of its $40 price tag with deck and AFC extras. He has had no problem with its fit-and-finish (i.e. no leaking, shorts, having to tinker, etc..). Vaped as well as my authentic, though I did have it dry-hit on me on the 5th draw chain-vaping. I think he said he had 26ga 7/64''ID coil which came to 0.87ohms on my meter.

We both didn't like was that it's still branded with the SQ logo on the tank. It's a 1:1 as much as possible down to the packaging, though I was glad to see they didn't attempt to brand it with a serial#. Opening it up to inspect the deck I noticed the threading is slightly rougher than the authentic, think dirty Magma top-cap. Nothing bad just not up to Suisse snuff. The decks were obviously made of a different material as they were a slightly different color and had sharper edges than my authentic. I was told that poking around inside of the deck with tweezers and drill bits and things didn't scratch it.

I personally haven't had a problem with the authentic's price, especially when I see competing authentic RTAs like the KF4, Aqua, and Rose going for more (before buying the w-deck which brings them all together). It seems that while RDA prices are trending downward, prices for RTAs keep climbing. I'm not totally against clones but I do prefer to support the creators and innovators when I can. So at least it's nice there is finally a well crafted option for those interested in seeing if they like the design or not before diving in.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the Kingtu did come with W, S, and C decks, though apparently the "C" stood for "constricted" instead of "curved" as it is not shaped any differently than the Wide and Standard decks, it just has even narrower channels than the s-deck.

lol, well good news for me!!!!
My brand new base came today!!! Cant wait to get home and set it all up and get my awesome squape back up and running!! :D
:vapor:

are these clones just as good as the original?

Sounds like the EHPro is the only great clone. My Kingtu has one issue that will become a problem. The chimney hits the deck edges while screwing or unscrewing the tank from the base. Eventually the finish will come off one or both. Then it may start conducting, and expose the user to raw aluminum.

Got a great deal on the Smok Guardian II e-pipe, and it's looking rather awesome with the SQuape R on it, if you ask me :)

I'm on my third build in the Squape R, and first build on the W deck. This is my first rebuildable, so far I'm loving it. All of my builds have been with 30g Kanthal and KoGo Japanese cotton, most wrapped on a 2-2.5mm screwdriver.

My first build was on the S deck, 7 wraps, 2.0 Ohms, leads on bottom, so it set higher in the channel. It had awesome flavor and good vapor production.
Second build was wrapped on a 3+ mm screwdriver, S deck, 6 wraps, 2.5 Ohm, leads on top, set deep in the channel. Decent flavor and good vapor production.
Current build is on the W deck, 5 wraps, 1.5 Ohms, leads on top, but not real deep in the channel. Has really good flavor and vapor production.

Seems like my first build had the best flavor, but it could be I'm getting use to the increased flavor of the Squape. I might try a build with leads on bottom again next time just to see how it compares to my current build, keeping all other things as equal as possible.

I've been cutting my wicks at the edge of the deck, and that seems to be working fine.

Thanks to everyone who posted builds here, I have a lot to try out.

Out of all them builds, which had the most throat hit? Leads up or down?

Sharing my build as well then :)

W-deck, 2nd largest airhole and typically use a 50/50 blend

8 wraps of 27gauge (0.36mm) around 2.5mm drillbit. Leads on top, ie when looking from the side, the lower inner part of the coil lines up with the deck channels and the cotton sits nice and straight.
Puff japanese organic cotton pads. The wick is cut at the end of the deck, so when juiced and tucked into the channel, it fills about half of the vertical area.

The Build Bug bit a little while ago and made me do this:

7/64""ID 24ga 8wrap @ 0.78ohms
20141218_131428.jpg

Good Ramp-up (gets much hotter)
20141218_131444.jpg

Spot check the build after full dry-fire
20141218_131848.jpg

Japanese Organic Cotton trimmed to Squape Spec

Wick Primed, Poked, and Fired

So how's the vape? Pretty dern gud. I meant to shoot for something closer to 0.9ohms but it appears I accidentally unwrapped a half wrap instead of adding a half wrap when I was positioning the coil and trapping the leads  Flavor is clean and vapor is decent, though this coil is too hot hot for the SQR. With the AFC wide open I need to rip a little harder than I normally do on the SQR (mostly I like to sip on it) to get the vacuum to keep up on the wicking, but as long as I do I have been able to take deep pulls without a burnt-hit; I cannot close off the AFC at all or it burns. Ramp-up time is noticeably longer than on the triple twisted 30ga horizontal build I took out, but for me this is not too big a deal. This is my 4th attempt (I think) at trying to use a vertical coil in the SQR and this is by far the most successful I've been. Earlier attempts (with various wire guages etc...) I had the coil down in the well and just I could not heat up the juice, I'm thinking because the build was completely encompassed by the cold metal deck.

I'm gonna leave this coil in there for a bit just to play around with it but next time I'm going to up the wire gauge and shoot for something just above 1ohm with more or less the same coil placement. Has anyone else tried a vertical coil in their SQR with good results? If so, please beer me any tips, in fact general build tips for chimneys would be appreciated.

Also, what do I need to do to be able to post pics at full resolution?

So after running 6 tanks of juice through 4 different vertical builds I wanted to give an update.

The flavor from these vertical coils is phenomenal and vapor production is up as well.

Wicking is actually quite easy with the high coil placement:
-With the drill bit going through the coil and down into the deck cut a strip of Japanese cotton as wide as the coil is tall and trap one end under the top lead.
-Wrap the strip of cotton tightly around the coil about 1 1/4 times and trim off the excess.
-Using a sharp set of tweezers gently poke the wick just into the well. With the proper coil placement there should be just enough space between the last wrap of the coil and the inside of the well to tightly hold the cotton in place against the coil. When you're done it should look like a little volcano coming out of the deck.
-Take two small pieces of cotton and use the tweezers to gently position them into the channels but do not take them to the edge of the deck, but just to where the channel goes vertical. The top of the cotton in the channels is just even with the top of the deck. Basically it's just there to fill the gap between the bottom of the coil and the lower lip of the the channel.
-Remove the drill bit, prime and enjoy!

With this wicking I have not had any leaking or gurgling, and I haven't been able to get a burnt hit no matter how I vape on it. I've been using my SVD with a married pair of stacked 18350s and I've been able to vape at 6.0v with no problem. The entire build has taken me as little as 15minutes. Even after two tank-fulls there has been hardly any darkening of the wick. My favorite coil so far has been a triple twisted 30ga with 7/64''ID and 10wraps spaced. This gives a poor vape on a mech but with the SVD, WOW. I've been wanting a high-powered box mod mainly to try claptons in the Magma but now I have to get one to see what these coils can really do.

I've gone back to the horizontal because the battery life on the SVD is just terrible with stacked batteries, but I'm finding it pretty hard not to keep switching back to the vertical. I would compare the two experiences with the difference between the Nautilus BDC and BVC coils, but on RBA levels. But if you thought the SQR was sucking juice before, nothing like it does with a vertical build.
