Hey there,
I've been vaping over a year and recently I bought "menthol" flavour e-liq (nic-salt). After walking out of store I read the label and I noticed in ingredients, there's "orange oil". I got kinda confused, I never vaped or had liquid which was using any of the oils for any of the flavouring. I checked my e-liquids that I usually vape, and none of them had any oils whatsoever (it's just artificial or natural flavouring).
Is it safe to vape e-liquid which is using oil for flavouring? I'm trying to keep the vaping as safest and as healthiest as possible, and that oil ingredient is kinda "bugging" me out. Can this orange oil in the longer or short term cause any lung illnesses or etc ?
(Also, why the f would they use orange oil in menthol e-liq, no idea...)

Also, some ingredients are kinda wierd, maybe I shouldn't use it?
E-liq ingredients: PG, VG, ethanol, water, ethyl butyrate, (nic-salt) , isoamyl acetate, sucralose, orange-oil, koolada, other-flavourings.

I would Strongly Suggest that you Do Not use any e-Liquids that include an Oil Based Flavoring(s).

Hmm, I suppose they put that orange oil in for the flavour or something. But what about the other ingredients? It just looks too overloaded imo.
My usually used e-liq has like 4-5 ingredients max (PG, VG, Nic-salt, Flavourings).
Can "natural" or "artificial" flavourings hide more chemicals?
I bought this e-liquid in my local store (EU)

About a month ago I came across a post here on ECF where someone stated that orange oil is safe because it's actually not an oil. I tried looking for it now but I can't find it. The thread stated that there are other "oils" that are safe to vape because they are not truly "oils", they are only called that because of their slickness I guess. For instance, many people around the world call PG an "oil" but it's not really an oil yet it does feel a lot like and oil because it's very, well, "oily" feeling. In fact, I came across a place a few weeks ago that sells PG and they called it "nature's oil". Not really an oil, though.

But you have to do your research. I have no interest in vaping anything called "oil" personally (other than PG) so I don't have a dog in this fight.

Of those ingredient... Sucralose is a Very Common Sweetener found in Many retail e-Liquids. And is used by Many who do DIY. And Ethyl Butyrate is found in Many Fruit mixes.

I Don't know much about the others.

The Big problem with Oil Based Flavorants is not that they might be Toxic to ingest (who hasn't put Olive Oil in Spaghetti Sauce?), but what they break into at Elevated Temperatures. Not that Non-Oil Based flavorants can't break in Chemical Compounds that might be of some concern. But they tend to break into a More Benign compounds.

I Don't think there are Many who would consider Orange Oil as something "Safe" to Habitually vape. Especially when there are Many Water Based flavorants which would give you the Same Taste.

Orange oil - Wikipedia

But there are always going to be some who think that things like Terpenes are OK. So it Is what it Is.

I agree, & this sticky thread could lead someone in the wrong direction. I think this is the thread I was reading last month. Maybe it should no longer be a sticky in this day and age. Guide to DIY Flavoring

I don't know of specific items that may be called "Nature's Oil". But it's definitely a company name and brand. They have their own website for crafters to buy things they use, in smaller quantities. It's a little more expensive than Bulk Apothecary, that sells much of the same things, but in larger quantities. Bulk Apothecary is under the same company umbrella as Nature's Oil, and the PG and VG they sell is the Nature's Oil brand. I haven't futzed around much on their website to see what else they sell in the same brand though.

Hm, interesting. I don't know, it's quite a big e-liq brand based in UK (IVG), maybe they're using safe ingredients and all. Apparently, this e-liq is a bubble-gum menthol flavour, still no clue why orange-oil is used in that flavour.

One of the 1st thing many people Learn by doing DIY, is that Very Few Recipes taste "Retail" Great by using a Single Flavor.

A Straight Cherry tasted Better if a Few Drops of Strawberry are added. Or maybe Pear. And to make Watermelon really "Pop", a Drop of Pineapple can do the trick. So a tad of Orange Flavor in something like a Bubble Gum (or maybe Mango) doesn't surprise me in the Least.

I just would Never suggest someone use an Oil Based Flavoring Long Term.

Is Vaping that bottle you have going to Scar your Lungs of something? Of Course Not. So I wouldn't be too worried about it. I would just try it, and if I Liked it, I would finish the bottle.

But it wouldn't be something I would buy again. Or any other e-Liquid that had any Oil Based Flavorant listed as an ingredient.

BTW - I saw this ...

Fresh Mango - IVG Nic Salt

... and the Description specifically calls out that it contains Orange Oil.

Not really oil in the sense that you are thinking but it is in fact the natural oil from the orange flavoring. Quite a few flavors contain a tiny percentage of oil. Oranges, mints and so on. While the tiny amount is safer than smoking its probably not really completely safe. There is a list of flavors and what they contain if I can find it. I honestly say use your best judgment cause some of the amounts are minuscule

Just an Observation on that sites list...

Every Flavoring that lists "____ Oil" as an Ingredient has a Recommendation of "Avoid".

Many "food" flavorings can be used for vaping BUT many can't (better to stick to known vape flavor brands)
I'm not as obsessive as others... maybe a little light oil in moderation but most of us just avoid that. The truth is, you stir fry or BBQ you are getting some oil in the fumes/smoke so think about that. The problem is... unless you do lots of home work, you may be vaping some funky stuff (even sugars are bad for vaping... mostly clog your coils/wicks but also not good to inhale) Should I bring up campfires? Toasting marshmallows? Just as bad as smoking so don't think any small amount of oil will kill you (keep it in perspective) but better to avoid all that stuff anyway (even the BBQ)

Filtering for "oil" and all "categories" and not filtering for flavor or brand, there are over 500 results but you can only see the first 115. Of those, roughly only 30 are "avoid" and two are "caution".

It's a Strange List.

Because some Flavors that show "_____ Oil" as an ingredient recommend Avoid. Where other Flavors, from the same company, showing the same "_____ Oil" as Research.

BTW - What does "Research" mean?

And for that matter, what are the Recommendations Based On?

Yeah but even tho some flavourings are not labeled "avoid"or "caution" they say research
Do they mean we should do more research before we use them????or that there is research need to be done? Hahahah :p

Anyway I am not very cautious about vaping flavourings but I wouldn't like to see a juice mention oil even tho it may be harmless...I would still vape it tho and just don't buy it again :p

Looking at the bigger picture tho since the op seems very concerned about juices and want to keep it as "healthy" as possible I would suggest he start making his own juices cause in my opinion even if some flavourings are safe to use maybe they are not soooo safe if u vape them in big quantities like for example the 20% OR SOMETIMES 40% PERCENT FLAVOURINGS USED IN SOME E JUICES :p

I make my own juices and I use max 5% flavourings with very few exceptions I may use bit more and I get strong flavour while I vape so the point is that u get used to it and u dont no need much flavourings to get good flavourfull vape

Manufacturers of juices need to pump up the flavourings cause the customer will complain "dammm this juice is weak"
