I honestly can't afford to buy as many genuine toppers as I'd need. I don't have an all day vape. I love to switch my flavors around all day, and I hate dripping. My toppers of choice are kayfun style tanks. After I had one I couldn't go back to cartotanks. I buy genuine when I can. I recently bought a genuine Expromizer (a great, affordable, RTA) and an Erlkonigin (not affordable, but just something special for me). When sQuape reloaded comes out, I may get one of those. When I used cartotank I carried 7 of them filled with different juice to work each day. I can't afford to do that with genuine toppers. I'm over my former cigarette budget currently by the few genuines I have...

What cracks me up is how the very folks that defend cloning talk down the devices they want; its just a threaded tube, no more complex than a flashlight, etc.

If that were all you guys cared about wouldn't one be enough? Why do you need more than one threaded tube?

Excuses abound, but not a single one centers on self, the modder is ripping people off, the B&M is ripping people off, when this stuff gets taxed the government will be ripping us off, all of that equates to having to buy clones, what other choice is there?

In reality the average kit might run you some $400 complete, that's a little over a month of selling your soul at the local plasma center. No job required.

A couple months ago I was sitting in my car in the parking lot of a grocery store in a seedy part of town. A guy walked up and said "I have a Pioneer surround sound system in the back of my van, I'll sell it to you for fifty bucks!" I said "No thank you" and then he screamed "Then you're a dork!"

Same diff.

Why is the word "entitlement" being thrown around so much?
Buying a clone has nothing to do with a sense of entitlement.
It comes down to nothing more than simply, hey look the same f...in thing for a fraction of the cost.
So maybe you are right. I do feel entitled to my money.

Yeah it takes money out of the original makers pockets, but I'd rather theirs than mine.

That's not feeling entitled, thats saving money because I care about myself before a business.

And really? Talking about morals so heavily on something like this. You have to be kidding me with that argurmemt and the ridiculous comparisons used all the time. If that's how you feel, go for it. I don't and why do you care.

I don't need a logo on my mod, a little certificate in my box, or the sense I've done something 'right' by supporting a designer. I need vapor in my lungs, and preferably as cheaply as I can.

I prefer not to give my money to China, but for the most part I have to because almost nothing is Made in the USA. China will be our downfall in the long run. I will buy American when I can, regardless of the price, because I understand it cost a Lot More to make it here than in China. Here is a good video on it called "Death by China", a good watch and eye opener.

Here we go again.

No one can be bothered to read anymore....well covered ground repounded for the same reason.

And yes...morals have bearing in everything we do.

As soon as they are discarded for the reason of money, it is wrong.

Dont confuse buying clones with right. Cant afford an expensive mod you want? Buy a magneto and the $ you save not smoking will get you to your good mod.

Going cheap right now is fine. Buying a cheap copy is not.

Tinkie
You are over budvet right now.
In a few months of vaping yoh nice gear, you will be ahead. Then get something. Haste makes waste.

Sounds like you are doing well with your choices :)

Absolutely any ex-smoker who says he or she cannot afford the price of an authentic piece of vape gear is nothing but a liar. If you used to smoke a pack each day you now should be saving at least $180 each month. In 2 months time you would have enough money saved for an authentic mod and atty. Rant over.

I just don't understand how people get so emotionally tied up in mods. Everything out there has counterfeits, and many people buy them. No one goes out of their way to make a big deal out of them existing just because they have the authentic one.

When all of the down talking starts on this topic, it really seems like nothing more than people trying to fill the void of self righteousness they thought they would by buying and authentic mod.

Are your morals really that deeply intertwined with every purchase you make? And if you really do have a problem with "clones", then don't buy them.

Why do you care even slightly what others are buying.
The authentic mods are made in limited numbers anyways.

Why would anyone bother spending that money they're saving on an authentic mod?

As a matter of fact I only have one mech mod. I only have one VW mod. And I only have one eGo type ecig.

That's it. As far as batteries go that's my entire collection after a year and a half of vaping. And the box mod is new. Prior to last week all I've been using since January is the Nemesis and Halo.

Excuses abound, but not a single one centers on self, the modder is ripping people off, the B&M is ripping people off, when this stuff gets taxed the government will be ripping us off, all of that equates to having to buy clones, what other choice is there?

Speaking of excuses....

Here is an ORIGINAL mod. This is NOT A CLONE.

Hcigar Helmsman 26650 Mod $34.99 | GOTSMOK.COM

$34.99.

Now, tell me again why other originals cost hundreds of dollars when this original only costs $34.99 from a 3rd party retailer who is making a profit on the sale.

Here is the point blank truth about ecig mods....

THEY ARE ALL CLONES.

Not one single one holds a patent for their design. Not one single one owns any intellectual property rights related to their mods. The ONLY thing they own is the trademarks on their logos and emblems.

Without that trademarked logo and emblem, it's just another clone.

And I absolutely 100% guarantee you there isn't a single person here who would drop $200+ on a tube mech mod that had no logos, no numbers, and no emblems. Picture a Nemesis, remove all of the etchings, and then ask $200+ for the basic bare tube, button, and top cap. See if anyone is foolish enough to buy it.

Damn, the Helmsman is sold out too like most originals. And it is a nemesis clone in my opinion.

Easy, "Made in China".
Would you work for $.25 an hour (or less), no benefits, sweatshop conditions, etc.?
It is not really if it is a clone or not (IMHO), it is where it is made that affects the price. If Provape had theirs made over seas, they could sell them for a lot less money, but could not control the QC. So "Made in the USA" is going to cost more to produce and there by cost more at the retail level.

Spoken like a true bling junky.

Be honest, it has NOTHING to do with quality. It's all about the bling. It's about showing off and feeling self-important. It's about spending excessive amounts of money to try to convince yourself that you're better than other people.

I could EASILY afford original mods. I've got $2,500 in tires and rims on my Mustang, and $5,000+ worth of supercharger and other mods under the hood. A $250 mod wouldn't even be a blip on my spending. Heck, my birthday is today and I'll probably spend almost that much on taking the family out to dinner tonight.

But unlike you, I buy based off performance, not bling. I'm not trying to show off in front of others, I only care about making myself happy. That's why I've got a car with close to $10,000 in mods total added to it, yet it looks like a stock, base model V6 Mustang. It doesn't even have a rear spoiler. Sure I could have bought a BMW instead, and I'm sure other people would be more enviable of the BMW than what looks like a Mustang rental car with aftermarket wheels, but I don't need other peoples envy to feel good about myself. Pressing down on that gas pedal and being planted in the seat with the G-forces is where I find my happiness.

Same with mech mods. I don't need a $200+ original mod to be happy, a $40 1:1 clone that works every bit as well works fine for me. I only care about performance, not the badge on the hood. I'll leave the showing off to the ones who lack the self confidence to not care about trinkets and bling.

Oh, and if you REALLY want to see showing off.... the Mustang is my daily driver. It's what I drive to work and back.

When I really want to have fun.....

67camaro.jpg

69camaro.jpg

There's about $120k of fun for you. (BTW, that second Camaro is a clone, it's not really made by Chevrolet)

Now tell me again how cool you are because you own a couple of $250 mech mods.

ROFLMAO!!

I good machine shop should have no problems turning out 20-50 mods an hour. How much are you paying these American workers, $10,000+ per hour?

I've done the math before. I won't go through the whole long mess of it again, but I figure that if a mod maker is producing just 16 mods a day using 3 employees then they can bring in roughly $2,900 PER WEEK in pure profits, and that's after paying those 3 workers at $40 per hour.

Agreed. $200 for a stainless steel tube, silver plated contacts, a spring/magnet, and delrin insulator? Come on now...the prices that clones are going for are a better indicator of how much these mods cost to manufacture. I refuse to pay $200 for something just because it is "Made in the Philippines"

I have $0 in my mods. I sold and traded till i was even.
You are strange to feel that you have to be aggresive to me.
From my end, a car is a depreciating assest in which money spent is money lost.
From the amount of money and pride, and anger shown in your post and pics, I dont think that I am the one with problems.
I could sell my current collection and be about $2000 to the good.
I like plain, elegant mods like Super T.
I dont need loud, fast things like your cars.
They are nice cars though....since you enjoy them, and I consider them a waste, would it be right to call you a bling junkie?
    Nope.
So please desist, as I speak of morals and pride in our own actions, not materialism
    Its childish

    To others:

I think the helmsman is a mod that is made right. No attempt at being what its not: ie a well made, milled mod made with high end materials and precise tolerances.
There are many Authentics to be had for well under $200

Its a cheap device for the mass market. And thats fine.

After all, does the Yugo invalidate the Bentley?
If we use Averages logic with mods, and apply it to cars, it was ridiculous for him to build those amazing machines, because a Neon would get him from point a to point b just as well.
But it wouldnt be the same, would it?
Same goes for mods. Do what you like, dont be a fake, and enjoy yourself

Sure there are. There are Super T ELA users. No numbers, no emblem just a logo on the bottom no one can see when its set down or being used.

I wouldn't say the prices have generally increased. I'd rather say there are a lot of new mods that are more expensive than the norm was a year ago. I.e, you can pick up a brand new Paps for half of what many others charge. Or a brand new Nanos for ~$100. Both from reputable manufacturers. Or you can pick up a $250+ mod from someone who just released their first model. Or anything in between.

I do find it a bit odd that a lot of new mod makers charge seemingly ridiculous amounts for their first product ever released. I find it equally odd that the usual "clone vs original" discussion is so often about $200+ originals vs clones. I have no doubt that some manufacturers price gouge. Some isn't enough for me to go all Robin Hood. I do own a few clones. I don't think I'm doing anyone any good or teaching anyone any valuable lessons by vaping on them.

(Not aimed at Myk... your post simply triggered a little something)

That kind of goes back to my original statement. People get into it with little business knowledge and no manufacturing experience. They get themselves hosed and pass that onto the customer. Once they get some experience and maybe start doing their own manufacturing it translates to better pricing. Not really the best way to do business but the customer allows it so it's what the market bears.

You can get some new high end regulated mods less than some of the mechs and attys. Someone's pricing is a bit off or they're simply not good at cutting costs.

Like pricing NRT or e-liquid to be slightly more than the price of cigarettes is a justified pricing model? That's your world. In mine prices are based on being competitive and costs.

Do you know how much it costs to have a horse? Want your cars priced based on that or do you want your cars based on how much cars cost?
