I admit this is my first shot at DIY. I got a bunch of flavors, PG, VG and Nic. All flavors but one are from TFA I mies according to the recommendations here on ECF and all I get is either: no flavor, nasty tasting perfume or desolated horribly sweet candy. My coffee tastes like it was sitting in a coffee pot for a week and been burned one too many times. Tried it 8% and 12%. Tried it after a week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. No change. Black Honey tobacco tastes like I'm drinking perfume. 5% after 3 weeks. Same with DK tobacco and Maxx. All at 5%. I'm not even going to mention Black Cherry and Blueberry which are just nasty at 5% and 15%. TA Vanilla at 2% is anything but vanilla. I can go on and on but you get the picture. I mean the cheapo stuff from fasttech is 1000 times better than anything I was able to make. What am I doing wrong? Any words of wisdom? Suggestions or recommendations I could try?

I would get some Flavorwest and Capella flavours and join a DIY group on facebook or hit up the DIY threads. Just copy people's recipes then tinker with them to get what you want. Once you have a feeling for proper proportions you can start experimenting on your own

TPA only makes a few decent flavours in my book

Back off on the power in your mod a little. It is my experience that fresh, clear, subtle flavors ate often ruined by high watts.

Thanks StereoDreamer. I'll give it a try. I thought I'm actually pretty low right now at 6W on my Vamo. Worth a shot tbough before I toss everything out :)

I was thinking about trying different manufacturer of flavors but thus far it's not really encouraging. I can't get (DIY) anything vapable except menthol.

Check out the tfa thread and start low on the %. I think you maybe over flavoring. I used the caramel cappuccino from tfa at 1 drop per 10mls and I could do 15mls because it's that strong. Not all tfa flavor are that strong. Most of the tfa flavors need a bit of mixing, to get some body and depth of flavor. A few a good as stand alones. Check out the recipe threads for some recipes that include flavors you have. Capella's are good stand alone flavors and are easy to work with. I will let one of the tobacco gurus, chime in and help with the tobacco's.Always, start low and work your way up with the flavor.

Maybe with a list we can come up with a few recipes for ya

Yeah we need to know what you have :) I agree too that you should go with Capella for really easy stand alone dessert stuff.I only use TFA for a hand full of fruit flavors.

You should try the Hangsen flavors for easy tobacco vapes.
Check out DIY flavoring thread and talk to Jimi about Hangsen stuff. That guy has tried everything they make !

DIY is hard as far as finding a main flavor you are cool with and enjoy. I recommend just thinking about one flavor you think you would like and don't try several. For example, say you want a bubble gum. Try it at 5%. Set it aside a week and try it. If it smells perfumey or weird, try another batch at 3% etc., if it tasted weak then try it at 7%, etc. concentrate on that one flavor and think about if you maybe need sweetener, etc. but take it slow. Don't get all distracted by a bunch of flavors at the same time. And keep in mind some flavors are accent flavors and some are not. I think DIY Recipes on facebook is a great group to help with your questions too. Luckily I can make my all day Vape and now Ido small batches of sample tries and piddle with them. Some are ok, some aren't. I'm still working on a second all day Vape. Lol. Don't let it discourage you though. Just do small batches and try making a couple and setting them aside a week.

I couldn't get a lot of my TFA flavors quite right yet... a lot of them either tasted perfume-y or needed a good steeping.

Is it normal that after a while of steeping, the flavor kind of... dissipates? I had made some Chai and it was good around day 3 or 4. But after about a week, all I could taste was the sweetener.

This happens when you add too much sweetener. EVERY Time. Especially Stevia. I still have this problem once in a while but I usually only do 1 DROP of stevia per ML of flavorings now. If it needs to be sweeter than that then I use Cotton Candy (TFA) two drops per ML of flavorings, to make it sweeter. Add sweeteners gradually. They really pop up after a few days of steeping.

OK, so here is the list and please keep in mind at this stage of the game I'm a big tobacco, coffe and real and natural flavors :)

Coffee TFA
Blueberry TFA
Black Cherry TFA
Bavarian Cream TFA
Spearmint TFA
Lemon Lime TFA (seams to half way descent actually)
Maxx Blend FA
Black Honey Tobacco TFAMenthol TFA (favorite one out of them all)
French Vanilla TFA
Vanilla Classic FA
Caramel Oryginal TFA
DK-Tobacco TFA

What is the source of your nic base?

Try to mix it to desired strength, don't add any flavor and try to vape.

Now, How does it taste?

And to turn it around - mix PG/VG and flavor but don't add nic and try to vape.

Above are some ways to eliminate the culprit.

Good stuff YKruss. Thanks, haven't tried that. I got everything RTSvapes

Thanks, I actually wated to start with stand alone flavors before I go all out mixing stuff but right now nothing is vapable :). I guess I can start again and add a drop per 10ml's as you suggested.

Yes, I've heard that some flavors are good after just couple of days and they tend to fall off after that. I tried them after a week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. Unfortunately in my case it made no difference

All my DIY stuff is from Wizardlab and Ecigexpress. Whatever I mix from the chart I don't like it then I fix it with Sweet Cream, Oak Wood, and Pina Kolada depends on the base. I also, have Mentol for the worst case scenario but so far I like my juices after they are finished.
I hear ya. Menthol is the only thing that saves me right now and the only DIY flavor I actually enjoy vaping
