Just got back from a Long John Silver's run, and while waiting in line at the counter, the guy in front of me was puffing on a silver bullet.

Here's a 'what happened' (since it was an interesting excuse)

So I'm standing there, several in line are staring at the guy ahead of me, looking very irritated.

I asked, "What are you doing?"

He replied, "Oh this? Its a portable nebulizer as a preventative for early onset emphysema."

Most of the people in line seemed pleased with this response and didn't look so hostile anymore.

My response of course was, "Well, I only just got my 510 yesterday."

He chuckled, then got called up to place his order.

Now my question is this... WHO WAS THIS? ARE THEY ON HERE?

For those that don't know, Florida passed a clean indoor air act or something like that, no smoking in any stores other than bars where more than 66% of their revenue is from alcohol. I got a kick out of this little interaction, and LOVED his response.

Your mom said not to say...
Anyone that has asked me about it has been nice, I dunno maybe my reputation around town proceeds me and they know better than to get me started on something. I have astounded many people with it and tell them the facts, no fire, not smoke, water vapor, and whatever else they ask and have not had anyone make a fuss. If I carried kits around with me I could sell at least 2 every time I left the house. Of course it's just a matter of time before I run into the village ..... then it should be interesting.

Same here, in fact I have 12 kits coming from China as we speak.:)

Again, Same here. Except I try to be stealthy around non-smokers. I worry that the more (self- righteous) non-smokers that see us doing our thing, the more likely we are to start seeing small-scale bans (company policies, city ordinances, etc.). I mean it doesn't really matter if the FDA/states end up saying it's ok if the smaller guys won't let us do it on their property.
Around smokers I actualy try to be obvious in hopes that they WILL ask me about it. I figure not only might I be saving a life, but the more smokers I can convert the less money those BT .......s get. I have already turned on a dozen ppl to vaping, but I try to relay the same message to them as in the last paragraph. I tell them... you can (technically) do it anywhere you want, but try not to be too bold about it or you might not be able to for long.

I currently work for many companies that have a strick "no tobacco use" on the property rule. And all it takes is for them to add "or e-cigs" to the policy and I'm back to standing in the f***ing bean field next to their property trying to get my nic-fix in the rain.

...just my two cents

that response will be the reason the fda will have cause to ban them. if people go around saying this then others may actually fall for it and then it spirals out.IMO i wouldn't say that i tell people the straight up facts and truth. i wouldn't lie about something that i love like that. i try to get everyone i know to try this and so far i have 10 converts...just my 2cents...

I wouldn't call it a lie (except maybe the "nebulizer" part).
The thing I wouldn't agree with is vaping while standing in line at a fast food joint. (as per my previous post)

I think vaping is a great thing and we should show it off. We just need to be careful with WHO we show it off to.

IMO it was not a lie! My doctor was about ready to diagnose me with COPD. Now my lungs are almost completely clear and I still smoke 3-5 analogs a day. So, by deductive reasoning, I say mine is a PV as a preventative for COPD and I am justified doing so. I don't want to get vaping banned and I don't go out of my way to make a statement, but when asked, that is what I say, because that is cold hard FACT!!

I'm not sure what the smoking laws are like in other states but in OH they get more strict all the time. Right now you can be issued a ticket if caught smoking within 50 feet of any entrance to any public building (and believe me it is an enforced law). From what I've heard CA is even worse.

All I am saying is that the more aware smoker-haters become of us "getting away with something" the more likely it is that new laws and policies will be adopted to stop us.
It doesn't have to be a federal ruling to affect us. All it takes is one LJS customer that is bothered by someone "smoking" in line and complaining to management. Then, next thing you know the "no smoking" sign on the door has "or use of vaporizing devices" scribbled in at the bottom. Law or not, if a business takes on a policy against us, it hurts all of us.
It didn't happen in this case because a fellow vaper saw what was happening and asked the question. If the answer hadn't been as clever and he just said "it not a cigarette, it's an electronic cigarette" then the outcome may have been different.

Þornbjörg, that wasn't really a lie, it probably will prevent the onset of emphasema.
However in the interest of public relations, in-the-food-line probably isn't the right place to be puffing on anything, but it was pulled off ok.... this time! The old "this is my asthma inhaler" which is giving off a ton of vapor isn't going to be acceptable either in all circles, someone may "help" you to a seat somewhere! Maybe in the street? You gave him a nice response, though. Just to let him know, you can fool some of the people some of the time...I at least wait to get into an empty isle at Walmart...love the frozen food isle at the grocers, open a door, exhale, close the door...

Lol!! Thanks for endng my night on a funny note. I vape anytime, anywhere I can "get away with it". But in a line at a fast food place, no go for me. But then again when I do go to a fast food restaurant, I usually use drive thru.:D

That sounds like a good plan...I might have an urge to check out the frozen pizza's soon. If I were in dire need, I wonder if anyone would notice if I just climbed inside and closed the door behind me for a bit. :p

Funny story, though, Þornbjörg - whoever he was, clever answer.

You people sound like you don't have the right to inhale what amounts to water vapor, without starting any fires or exhaling anything dangerous to others, how incredibly asinine does that sound when you put it like that? This is starting to get beyond ridiculous.

I have been asked if it was a medical inhaler a couple of times and I said nope and explained what it was and haven't had any issues like I said in my earlier post. I refuse to let the jackboots paranoia about smoking get confused with vaporizing, they are two completely unrelated things. It would be like lumping horses and seahorses together as a related species, apples and oranges, etc etc...
