So I was happily vaping for 5 days when the taste of the juice became unbearable, and went back to smoking analogs (which annoys me as I was enjoying being able to breath again and not smelling like an ash tray) I currently have 4 tanks one that I use with juice with no Nico content.

Tanks:
  • 2x Aspire Nautilus mini's (1.8ohm) [one used with no nico juice]
  • 1x Kangertech toptank mini (OCC 1.5ohm)
  • 1x Subvod tank mini (SSOCC 0.5ohm)
E-Juice:
  • Red sea - Red Velvet - 12mg 70vg / 30pg
  • 12 monkeys - Mangabeys - 12mg 80vg / 20pg
  • Avant Garde - Heavenly Vanilla custard - 6mg 100vg
  • Simple Vape VG - Chocolaccino 0mg 80vg / 20pg
  • Far - Grape Vape - 0mg 75vg / 25pg
Mod:
  • Kangertech KBOX Mini Platinum
  • Kangertech Subvod (spare when the other one is charging)
Temps:

  • 210c ni
  • 12.5w

So I'm a heavy vaper, I have to refill my tanks 2-3 times a day. Which is why I bought a new tank with no Nico content to be the filler so im not taking in that much nico per day.

How long do the filters last and how often do I need to change them? Am I using the correct one's?

I can't continue to smoke analogs....smoking for 17 years at 40-50 a day...the money....my lungs.....and from a vain perspective my teeth!

Any advice or slap across the head would be welcomed!

(Btw forgive the forum sig, I'd change it but I'm running out the door to a meeting)

No coil lasts forever, they need to be changed when the flavour goes south.

The 0.2 and 0.5 ohm coils I use have a large enough ID that a cotton swab/Q-tip can be twisted in and out of the coil to extend it's usefulness. Usually for weeks and weeks if done every day or 2. It takes only a minute or less to do.

Coil ID's are different as are the amounts of cotton on the swabs. If the swab won't screw in gently then peel off a little cotton and try again.

If the cotton pulls off the stick and gets stuck in the coil I use a toothpick to pull it out or push it through. Cheers.

If you are a heavy smoker and new to the vape, I think you might need to consider a higher nic juice to start and then try tapering down lower. I started with 18 mg on a little vape pen before I was able to finally get the "whatever it was" that helped make the final switch. Do you have a vape shop that would let you test some juice to find something that suits your taste? If you over vape, you will get some indication that you need to slow down, and maybe switch to one of the lower level tanks until you feel better.

It is also OK to be a dual user for a while until you find the magic combination and just wake up one day and forget to light up a smoke. Don't beat yourself up and relax. As many on here will say, it isn't the ones you smoke that count, it is the ones you don't smoke. Good luck on your journey. :thumb:

You list 0.5 and 0.8 ohm coils on the Nauti mini. Aspire doesn't make a coil in either resistance meant for the Nautilus series. Where are you getting your coils from? Are you buying knockoffs?

I found most commercial juices to be too strongly flavored or sweetened for my taste so I researched DIY and took that plunge. It's insanely simple to follow a recipe, cheaper in the long run, and you can even vape unflavored. You can make any strength of nic that you need. I've also found that it's easier on my coils, though I don't know why. Maybe because I use very little, if any, sweetener but that's just my guess.

Old school recommendations for e-liquid nicotine: * (your results may vary)

1/2 pack or less per day = 6mg nicotine
1 pack a day = 12mg nic
1 1/2 packs a day = 18mg nic
2 packs per a day = 24mg nic

Cut the nic by 50% should you sub-ohm.
Using e-liquid with a Pg ratio higher than 60/40 will deliver a harsher vape.

I Agree. For me most store bought liquid becomes cloying after a short time. Even if you just add some unflavored liquid it helps.

80% of the time I just vape unflavored. It's the closest thing I ever found to smoking a cigarette. After all most cigarettes aren't flavored. And unflavored liquid is very inexpensive.

Good luck with your journey. :)

Finding the "right" flavor for yourself individually is probably more important that the gear you use. Even experienced vapers of 5 years running (myself included) are always on the lookout for a great flavor. I always say if you don't like the flavor, you won't use it.

Most vape shops allow free or low cost sampling of their flavors while in their shop. It's a great way to try many flavors at one sitting. If you have a shop within reasonable driving distance, its worth your time. If not, some online e-liquid manufacturers offer "sample packs", where you order samples of 3 - 8 flavors for a minimum cost. Virgin Vapor sample pack

Most factory-made replacement coils ("filters" as you called them) are only good for 2 - 4 weeks at a time. Once the flavor becomes muted or bad, or you develop a burnt taste, its time to replace it.

We have a saying, "It's not important how many cigarettes you smoke a day. It's how many that you DON'T smoke that's important."

Finding the "right" juice to suit your personal taste can be arduous/difficult and you really need to find three or more that you like so you can rotate flavors occasionally. I'm fortunate because I don't like any flavored retail e-liquids, I vape NETs exclusively and learned early on how to make and mix them myself. I don't know how things work in London but if you can sample flavors at local vape shops that might be a good method of finding a few suitable flavors. Since you're just getting started and are using 1.8ohm coils your best chance of success will come with high nic levels. For a typical pack to pack and a half smoker with the gear/setup you're using I'd suggest 18mg juice. Many people fail to quit, become/remain dual users or pickup smoking cigarettes again because they attempt to taper/reduce their nic levels -far- to soon. Don't be in a hurry to reduce nic, focus exclusively on breaking the cigarette habit first.

EDIT: Just noticed in addition to the 1.8ohm and 1.5ohm coils, you also listed a sub-ohm setup. Nic levels when using a 0.5ohm coil should be far less than when using 1.8ohm coils. High nic levels in a sub-ohm setup can be harsh.

That's good advice. Some people start vaping and never pick up a cig again. Others, like myself, take months to get there. Maybe try to vape part of the time and cut down a little on the cigs. Give yourself time to find the right equipment and flavor. I reckon I went through dozens of different flavors before I found some I really liked. Mixing your own makes it even better.

Finding the right liquid was the hardest thing for me. It didn't help that my sense of taste and smell kept changing. I finally ended up with unflavored as my best choice. I do have a few flavors that I like, but I dilute them a bunch...just a hint of flavor is all I need.

Particularly starting off things can be rough. Turning back to your initial post, you're probably running a lot of juice through your tanks to get enough nic to suppress the cravings/desires for a cigarette. We all go through that, some more than others. As already well pointed out, increasing the nic concentration is your best solution. I stared out at 24 mg as that's what I needed. After several months that did drop off.

Using factory coils and vaping a large amount of juice (it's all relative), especially juice that's sweetened will gunk up your coils relatively quickly, which is probably why after 5 days you feel the need for a new coil. That's OK, and not a sign of anything wrong, but it can get expensive. That's one reason (among many) folks will start to use tanks that allow them to build their own coils as it's far cheaper over time. I'm not suggesting you need to do that right now, just understand there are solutions to buying lots of coils.

My approach would be to get a higher nic juice, say 18 mg, and stick with one setup that satisfies you. If you do want to subohm, you'll need to buy additional juice at a lower nic level like 6 mg for that. With a higher nic, you'll probably go through less juice, and decrease coil changes to maybe once a week (about what I was doing when using factory coils.

One other item in your IP. You list 210C Ni as one of your settings, but you don't list any Ni temperature control coils among your choices (you do have a SS coil listed). Be sure you use the correct settings for the correct coil types. The type of wire should be identified on the box (Ni or SS). If nothing is listed, it's likely Kanthal which is for VW/V only.

Two more things to address that hasn't been covered.

1) you might find that going to a tobacco flavour more to your liking for now, personally, I get tired of the creams/fruits/desserts after a while, plus you can get vapor's tongue.

2) your system IS going to go through withdrawals from the cigarettes, not the nicotine, but from all the toxins from the cigarettes. Some people go through those easily, but I've seen some take weeks until the crap that's in their lungs is cleared out, but in the meanwhile, they had the sick feelings that felt horrible, they pushed through them and were eventually fine.
